Robert Merton wants, a functionalist to find net balance between functions and dysfunctions of any institution and then come to a reasonable conclusion. Amazingly UPSC CSE also wants same from an aspirant.🙂

middle range theories are mentioned in book but functional paradigm nowhere mention.
