It's been over 2 weeks since the sad demise of the cutting and it's still dead and decomposing. The cutting has fungal spots al over the bottom part, so it's definitely breaking down. The condition is proves absence of any viability or potential recovery. I'm still continuing the efforts, that seem futile, like rinsing the cutting with a solution ( water+fungicide+chamomile) and changing the water at least twice a day. There's some firmness and hydration in some areas, but that's because it's only been dead for 15 days. By the way, today me and my class went to the cinema and watched Gladiator 2, it was a blast. At least there're things to keep my mind off the dead cutting.

These videos are great. Up here un New York state, we know our apples, but we lead a sheltered life when it comes to avocados. The markets all carry the Hass variety which were probably picked at the wrong time and shipped in bulk from far away. They are just OK. It is good to learn about the other varieties of avocados available, and the fact that you can order them directly online. I recently received the avocados that I ordered online from this farm. They were packaged well and arrived quickly. At this point I am just waiting for them to ripen perfectly. Can’t wait to try them. I have had locally grown avocados in California when I worked out there, and they are amazing compared to what we get in the stores out east. Can’t wait to try the Choquettes you sent. Thanks for posting the video and the education!

Avocado cutting update: I was away for 3 days (Friday-Monday), I made sure the water was fresh and cutting was in place before I left. But when I got back, I saw the cutting had deteriorated further. The potential growth had dehydrated too much. And over the past 48 hours, the cutting has gone from being okayish to barely alive. The fungus is too aggressive, it's covered the whole cutting and now there's lesions, and brown rot. The overall color has changed from green to yellow, slightly green at best. There's no signs of even the slightest root formation. There's deep skin irritation like brown vertical lines. There's absolutely no potential growth point or viable nodes left. The likelihood of recovery is practically zero. I'm very heartbroken and upset. I can't believe it's come down to this. Well, over the next few days, I'm going to try my absolute hardest to save the cutting, mostly searching for natural ingredients or additives. I put so many hours in trying to save the avocado, I don't want to let some stupid fungus get in the way. Weirdly enough, my friends called me in that 3 day periods, 2 new pigeons had been found while I was gone, it was unsuccessful, but weird, so many injured pigeons lately. Do you think there's anything, anything that can save my avocado cutting?

In the 1970's in both Florida (had one in the yard) and here in San Diego, we called those Queen Anne....or at least they look exactly like those. Buttery smooth but not quite as high an oil content of a Haas. Kind of a cross between a Haas and Fuerte in taste/texture....but of course much larger. I design farms and family in FL dates to 1822 farming, great grandparents had the original Mango Grove in Pine Island, FL. I am more familiar with crops in the PNW having lived up there 30 years......Pears, Peaches, Apricot, Apples, etc. so I have not heard of this "Marcus Pumpkin", nice.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the avocado cutting is dead and has reached the point of no return. After nearly 3 years of battling root rot, my avocado couldn't survive. There's no way the parent tree is alive, it's been dead for 6 months. I took a cutting of the mother tree in April and was successful, but as the days got shorter in September, the cutting got infected and died today. I should've started to act earlier when it was alive still, but it's too late. The overall color o the cutting black or dark brown with a few lighter portions where it was green until 2 days ago and the most decay-resistant part being slightly orange, but not alive. There's a bit of slime or sticky stuff on the bottom part and some decay and foul smell at times. And there's some mold developing. Strangely enough, the bottom part that's submurged in water is still hydrated completely and pretty firm, obviously, but it's dead and decomposing so it's not a sign o life. The calluses are the same, I guess they were dead even when the cutting was still alive. It's possible that the cutting died yesterday. Oh well, the series is over. I never posted the series on KZbin since I wasn't planning to. I will NEVER ever grow avocados again! I had wonderful memories of the avocado but it was a matter of time before the fungus killed it and now I'm beyond heartbroken. Rest In Peace original avocado (4th August 2021 - 4th November 2024)

I went to visit my grandma, I knew smth was up with the avocado cutting, but was in a hurry before leaving. I wanted to come back at Sunday night, but she didn't let me. So, I stayed with her until Monday. I'm in total disbelief. My avocado journey will end in a few days. There's literally nowhere the cutting can grow from, all the buds and calluses have been overtaken by the fungus. Only the most expensive and advanced tools could give the slightest glimmer of hope, but let's be honest, I don't have that kind of stuff, nor do I know anyone that has them. I estimate the chances of salvaging the cutting are 1 in 100 billion. I don't get it, I just don't get why this had to happen. The concept of recovery is probably irrelevant. In a few days, the cutting will be dead. I guess I just have to let go of the pointless idea of growing tropical fruit. I hope your having an amazing day, mine was great, apart from the cutting's state

Man, I don't know how you recover from hurricanes. I freaked out when I heard the door handle making noises but realised it was just a cold front or dust storm. I even get scared it's barely windy, let alone, beyond 60 mph. I've only experienced a potential hurricane once, but I'd just woken up, so didn't react too much. The avocado cutting's situation - dire. I'm upset, but I guess I just might have to accept defeat in a few days. The fungus is too strong and unstoppable :(

The cutting is still completely dead and actively breaking down. The core or the inner layers are soft and mushy, may even be hollow. I didn't think the cutting would continue to get worse after death. But clearly the silver rot is persisting and worsening. The smell coming from the rot is putrid and distinct, but only sometimes. If I change the water every 6 hours, the fungus might slow down. But yeah, the cutting being dead is an established fact. The idea of recovery or revival is out the window. And it feels like intervention is meaningless. That said, the only potentially good sign about the remaining cutting is it's still hydrated and somewhat firm. But it's laughable to consider it as a sign of life. I'll likely observe some mold and white fungus covering the cutting in the near future. Even the advanced propagation techniques are not sufficient for salvaging the dead cutting. I'm still updating you on the cutting regularly, because I know it's probably gonna get worse and start decomposing and I like to do it while I even have the physical remains of the cutting. You bet I'm going through the stages of grief, especially pain and testing. Even when I get to acceptance, I'm not coming back to growing avocados.

I’m jealous of the avocado! In Houston texas, your average HEB avocado sometimes has good creamy flavor and sometimes not. Not sure why. But I am.a bit of an Avocado snob. I don't care about the size, only the flavor.

I've told quite a few people about my avocado over the years. And some people(that I aven't seen in a while) ask me what happened to my avocados. It hurts when I have to say that they've died. I'm still upset that my cutting died. It's been dead for at least 1 or 2 days. It's still hydrated because I'm changing the water 3-4 times a day. It's kind of pointless but I'll be doing it for a while. The only thing that is left of the cutting that's not been completely broken down is the hydrated portion, but it's not alive, probably releasing its final compounds. The whole cutting is black or super dark brown. Anyways, I hope you post another video soon.

There used to be an avocado tree on sw 67 Ave and 30 street that was there when I was a kid until this year. The idiot who bought the house cut it down as they all do. It produced avocados I called footballs which weighed 4-5 pounds. The seed was pretty much average size with lots of fruit around it.

The cutting has been dead for over a week now. I'm not seeing any improvents. The damage is irreversible. The overall color is of the cutting is black and some spots are slightly orange, but these orange spots are NOT alive. I mean, like, treating the cutting is now meaningless and inapplicable. There's mold growth which could be a health hazard, but I'm being careful when handling the cutting. No matter what I do, I can't reverse the rot and decomposition.
