Slice & Dice 3.0: obsessed with the Serrated Fencer

Slice & Dice is out on Steam and mobile now, and it's got a ton of new stuff since I last covered it. In this run I discover a new favourite class, and an absurdly good item combo for them. (Excuse the slight skip at 41m, had to alt+tab to disable my stretch timer).

At 1:39:28 the bottom spider is actually attacking your Gladiator who is dead. That's why killing it has no effect.

The new Raid mode is pretty dope. Bloodlust and Brutal become extremely powerful when facing a ton of foes. I honestly love it when someone makes a game I was working on. Saves me the trouble! My interpretation of the Buddha's Palm side is that the Monk isn't casting a ward, he's literally throwing his body in the way of the incoming attack. Like Caine in that episode of Kung Fu (although it didn't work there cuz human bodies don't reliably block bullets). You can click on the red target at the top to see all the enemy targeting, really useful for figuring out who to put Revenge sides on.

I rarely have time to watch these videos all the way through, but I really appreciate the relaxed gameplay introduction to games I'd absolutely have missed otherwise. This looks great. I'll have to check if it runs on Steam Deck.

This was so great to watch. I adore this game and think it needs much more attention than it's getting. I'd watch more if you recorded some… The game is absolutely packed with thematic resonance. There's an item called the sickle that buffs all your lowest-pip sides by 1. The Fey and Druid both make perfect use of it, as both of them have all sides with the same pip value, and obviously that's super flavourful as a sickle is a common gardening implement and occult symbol.

I'm still watching so maybe this is something you touch on, but: A subtle thing I love about the hero dice is how the different sides map onto different parts of the body. The left side is the head, the middle is the chest, top and bottom are the hands, and the right and rightmost are the legs. This is reflected in things like the item worn arms giving you a sword and shield to the top and bottom sides respectively, or corset buffing the middle side but blanking the left side. It's obviously not 100% consistent, but it's a really neat detail that serves to add more character to each, uh, character

This is genuinely one of the RARE roguelites that beats Slay the Spire for me, personally. Almost everything about it is just brillaint . . .

At 2:09:48 the fencer rolled dodge, which was exactly what you wanted for that turn (Excellent video, thank you. I got Slice and Dice after you recommended it the first time, and it's wonderful to return to it after each update)

Okay, I know three comments is a bit much, but your appreciation for this fine game actually has me getting unreasonably excited for your next game after Tactical Breach Wizards, which (if I recall correctly) you have said will be a roguelite . . . :D

Oh man, you missed an amazing potential combo at 1:07, where you could have taken Sparks and put it on the Whirl. It wasn't obvious, because you had two items on them already, but they have 4 base sides with 1 pip each (the throwing knives, pitchforks and cleave shields). Having all of those as cantrips would be rad, and it's great example of exactly the thing you were describing of how items let you break the game!

The classes will always be the same level, so Wanderer is always a Lv3 Hero. That said, the new update added a mode called 'Alternate' which basically makes any hero able to be any level. I've only done it once so far but sometimes the heroes can be...interesting. It kinda feels like a more guided version of generated heroes.

Looks well design and fun! I would like to see a sequel with better graphics though, higher resolution and perhaps seeing the actual creatures and not just portraits.
