Ironically, my favorite part was Celestia and Luna acting much more, for lack of a better word, human. I mean, we know this show can write fun and interesting characters, but Celestia and Luna have earned titles like Princess Exposition, and Uselestia, because they just seem to be there to get the plot rolling. Seeing them be normal makes them feel more like characters and not plot elements.
@RynKen9 жыл бұрын
noobmaster117 I was distracted during that scene because the show has demonstrated that Celestia can teleport from Canterlot to Ponyville and vice versa in an instant so she could have fixed that problem. Its a small thing, but it kinda ruined that scene for me.

noobmaster117 Theories can often fix what was most likely a mistake by the writers, but this one isn't good enough for me. They might as well have set up an issue with someone running away from rainbow dash and she has no idea what to do about it, you can try to justify it, but no bandage will properly fit that wound. I think they would have been better off saying they lost the present instead of it being an issue of traveling.

Does anyone remember how Mr. Krabs reacted to getting the buried treasure on the Flying Dutchman's board game in the episode "Arrgh!" from SpongeBob? Well, that was my reaction to this whole episode. The whole time watching this, I kept laughing and wondering where the heck it was gonna go next. Bon Bon's story cracked me up, and I loved how they mentioned her alternate name Sweetie Drops. I also found Octavia's and Vinyl's segment to be incredibly cool, and their house is pretty interesting in terms of how it was made. I was surprised by the plot itself, because I didn't think we would get to see Cranky and Matilda get married, and it's been there since Season 2. This episode was not only entertaining beyond belief, but as you mentioned, good doctor, it's a love letter to the fans after sticking with the show for so long. This is easily going to be an iTunes purchase from me. :D

I loved this episode. It was like a big gift to the fandom. My favourite part was when Celestia and Luna of all ponies were bickering like a couple of little kids. All over a wedding present. I just couldn't help but laugh at that scene.
@SMKears5199 жыл бұрын
This one actually seems pretty divided in terms of reactions, and if I had to guess, I'd say you're enjoyment of the episode largely depends on how much you like that meta, over-the-top humour. This episode, on top of combining a lot of cute character stories, is essentially one ridiculous punch line after the next- and I mean that in the very best way. Dr. Wolf is totally right. You can just tell how much fun the show staff had making this, and it's fun to go along for the ride and not take our favourite show that seriously for a change. This was a spectacular, and ludicrous outing, and I absolutely adored every minute! I didn't even notice that actually jumped a literal shark (I only saw them jumping the Twilicane ... Though that is pretty much the same thing)!
@nakaion9 жыл бұрын
SMKears519 Pretty much. I'm a sucker for cute things and meta humor is one of my favourite things, so it's unsurprising that I liked this episode so much. Most people who didn't really like it probably expected more than what was given and came away disappointed. It was a silly and fun episode, nothing more complicated than that.

I love how well Vinyl and Octi got along this episode. Most of the fan works I see depict them as often getting on each others nerves, but here there seemed to be a very deep respect for one another, and the music that they make. They very quickly created a harmony from two very different genres with BOTH of them getting so into it, that they nearly smashed their instruments for the 'big finish'. It was just great to watch.

Well, here it seems they've known each for a long time - becoming somewhat of friends. It leaves anything leading up to this episode up to the fandom. But I believe anything they put in the show is now canon, which makes me so happy to hear! I now have a reason to love Vinyl and Octi and the relationship between Luna and Celestia!

For so long, my favorite episode of MLP was "Return to Harmony Part 1", even against "Make new friends but keep DIscord", but this episode became my favorite when i heard this word from Doctor Whooves mouth..."Alons-y!". Of course this was not the only thing, but it was a big part, along with all the Doctor Who references. And Derpy with her Muffins being canon was a "OMG THE WORLD MUST BE ENDING" Moment. Octavia and Vinyl now living together being canon was a "I CAN DIE HAPPY NOW" Moment. Doctor and Derpy being good Friends being canon was a "(SQEEEE) moment.\ Button Mash's little return was AWESOME! Time for my favorite bits of this 100th episode special. (in no order) BonBon being a secret agent. Derpy is now canon with muffins. Doctor Whooves is now Time Turners real name. Doctor Whooves now has a voice. Derpy has a better Voice. BonBon has a voice. Lyra has a voice. Octavia has a better voice. Doctor Whooves's references to Doctor Who. the 2 mules are now a couple. Celestia and Luna both are more like Teenagers. The new creature for peoples fanfictions. BonBon's secret agency to fuel fanfictions. Am i missing anything?

Honestly, I have to say having Steven (or is it Stephen?) Magnet come back, and being one of Cranky's only friends and how the two wandered Equestria to find Matilda was great, and the call back to the series premiere where he pays it forward to give Cranky his Mustache as a new toupee was beautiful. Seeing Rarity's example of generosity come back and having Steven pay it forward really made this episode.

PWLG UnicornLPer I am not agreeing nor disagreeing, just commenting. I believe the term Doc or doctor can be used as a title for anyone that has a doctorate's degree in any field, medical or otherwise. It isn't unheard of to use the word as a nickname to anyone who has a knack for healing or intellect whether they have a degree or not. I belief that Time Turner or whatever does have this requirement portrayed effectively. So, I think this is how they got away with calling him the same thing as the fandom intended, yet avoid legal potholes. Just so long as they don't call him 'the' doctor.

As for spoiling myself with clips ahead of time, I think it did me good. I don't think there was anyway fr someone not to know what the 100 epsiode was, and thanks to so many clips, I was able to get the mentality: "it's likely just going to be 'how many background characters can we give voice and quirks to in 22 mins?' I have a lot to say about this episode, and fortunately, almost everything I have to say about it is positive. First off, I have been a brony for several years now, and even though my interest in MLP has peaked and waned over the years, I have usually had my own interpretations of the background characters, some based on common fan-portrayals, and some of my own theories. I actually barely watched any of the preview clips because I wanted to go in blind and be surprised by what was included in the episode, and when I saw it, I was blown away. So many headcanons were either confirmed or broken into millions of pieces, and yet at the same time, so many new headcanons were created in the process, and not just from me, but for everyone in the fandom. And what Mayor Mare said at the end was something I can agree with, and it doesn't simply just apply to bronies, but everyone be they fans of MLP or not. I'd tell you all my thoughts on each character, such as my thoughts on their portrayal and how I portrayed them beforehand, but that would take forever. Now asides from being a love letter to the fandom, there is one other achievement this episode did, and that is being the 100th episode. Very few animated shows with full 22 minute episodes as opposed to the traditional 11 minute shorts ever make it to 100 episodes, and even fewer have managed to retain their high quality up to that point (most shows either get cancelled or decline significantly in quality before ever getting to 100 episodes), and I'm actually glad MLP was lucky to be one of those shows. The only other animated shows I can think of that were like this are The Simpsons and South Park (I am only counting 22 minute American animated shows, no 11 minute shows or Japanese anime). Even before season 5 began, I wondered what the 100th episode of the show would be like if it were to ever reach that point, and I was hoping that if it ever did, it would be something big. It wasn't just big, it was something new and different from the show, and I always love it when the show (or any animated show) tries something different. I'm not just going to thank M.A. Larson for writing this episode, I want to thank everyone who works on the show and has ever worked on the show (even Lauren Faust herself) and will ever work on the show for episodes and seasons to come. And of course, I wouldn't forget the bronies and all other viewers for helping the series reach this far. Here's to 100 episodes of MLP, and maybe eventually it will reach 200 episodes, which will be an even greater feat to achieve.

The instant I heard this episode was dedicated to the background characters, I put my senses on high alert to avoid spoilers, something I've never done before. Tirek being the next big bad? I never watched G1 anyway. Discord coming back? We all knew he would eventually, he's too fun to drop. This? I have explored most of the community's work and didn't want to take a single moment of it out of context. The only thing that slipped by was Derpy's new voice, and I'm glad that's all. This episode was crazy in all the right ways. Agent Sweetie Drops? What!? Steven in the spa? Delightful! Vinyl being the strong silent type (if not mute) and Octavia being just as crazy when the blood starts pumping? Brilliant! The Doctor in general? I've never even watched Dr. Who and found him hilarious. Gummy being philosophical and thinking at the speed of light? Absolute genius. I didn't catch the shark when I watched it, but that sent me laughing mad like the Joker. Sure, being critical and ripping apart an episode to see what makes it tick is fun, but I'm perfectly happy to let this one do its own thing. There is, however, one exception. What's the deal with that changeling at the wedding? I know it's a reference of sorts to the Canterlot Wedding, but what's the story with that guy? Fanfiction writers, to your keyboards! Head-cannons away!

Hey Doc, Me again, and I think I have found a new favorite episode in this. It was certainly a shout out to the Bronies that not only shined light on past events like Bon Bon's many voices being explained by her being a secret agent, but also new elements being tossed in for us to keep an eye out for. Like that Changeling at the wedding, which strikes me even odder now that you have to recall all the princesses were present for attendance. Personally I enjoyed seeing Luna, and Celestia acting like family rather than royalty. It makes them so much more relatable which is always a plus! Plus that scene with them holding hooves just made Luna look all the cuter to me, still best princess in my opinion. I also loved how they managed to bring Whooves into this in such a way that it was acceptable to the audience yet still avoids any copyright lawsuits. Pairing him with Derpy is just icing on the already delicious cake the shippers will make this episode out to be. Speaking of ships, Lyra's relationship with Bon Bon. Forgive me if I hesitate to say the line stops at friendship with those two. I'll grant this is a kid's show so the writers must be careful with how romance is portrayed, but I like to think the writers are implying romance between them for our benefit. They all but confirmed that pairing back in Rainbow Rocks anyhow. And lastly... Vinyl with Octavia. Arguably the most famous ship among the background ponies at least. It was fun seeing how flawlessly they interact, and that Octavia isn't quite as uptight as we imagined her to be. Bravo for that! Also I notice Vinyl had no speaking lines this episode, and I think it's acceptable. I heard a rumor that "nowacking" was actually approached by Hasbro to voice her, but turned them down so she could continue her fan works. Bit for your thoughts on the matter Doctor Wolf? At any rate I found this episode to be the most enjoyable since Castle Sweet Castle, which had set the bar for the standards I have come to expect from Season 5. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well Doctor, and here's hoping the rest of the season works out as well as it has so far. KEEP GOING STRONG!!!!!!!

Robert Lawrence Flanderization? I'm not sure how this episode has anything to do with that. Did you mean fan pandering? Flanderization means that a character's persona gradually becomes defined by one bloated character trait (example: Brian Griffin slowly devolving into Seth MacFarlane's mouthpiece in "Family Guy"). Everyone's entitled to their own opinions but I personally can't understand how any fan of MLP can't at least appreciate the show creators using this episode as a big love letter to the fandom. Speaking of TBBBAP, I haven't watched that many of their reviews but I lost quite a bit of respect for them when one of them told Amy Keating Rogers to kill herself during their review of "Filli Vanilli".

I knew nothing of the episode going into it, but I did quickly catch on to the whole theme, being not the most original base (a chaotic wedding, in this case focused on side-characters) What I didn't expect was the flawless execution of combining so many different characters and miniature storylines into a single episode. I would have expected this to be something no writer would be able to properly balance given the time window, and god an I glad I was wrong. As for the pandering... well, I ain't the most outspoken, active or participating member of the community. And although I do appreciate the community more and more, especially after coming across your channel, I didn't know too much about all the popular fanfic characters. Sure I have all seen and heard bout them a couple of times, but nothing in-depth. I don't know if pandering is the right way to describe it (depending on interpretation). It is more of a tribute, and considering all I've seen and heard from the (positive side of) the community, I don't think it is at all undeserved. Just as an artist might make a tribute to his fans, so too may MLP make an episode about, and for the fans. Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be right if something like this would happen every season, but every once in a while, for the artist to reflect back to the fans, I think that is beautiful. I wouldn't mind seeing an episode like this come back in say season 9 or 10. Artists come, create and share, they get fans, whom expand on, interpret and base own works off of what the artist made. In doing so an artist may look at all these people appreciating his/her work in their own way. The artist at that point is as much a muse as he/she is a creator, and this is vice versa with the fans. For this to be understood, and for this to be reflected both ways... is that not in a sense a friendship?

This review is a fresh change from TBBBAP's review. They really hated the episode. I guess it's a question of whether or not you enjoy flanderization and pandering.
@liamnelson56509 жыл бұрын
If you come into this episode analyzing it like an ordinary episode of MLP, you're gonna react how they did and see a bunch of undeveloped characters doing nothing important. But that's not what this episode is about. It was about the writers having FUN, and letting us all have fun with them. And that's what cartoons are all about-- fun! ... Right guys?

Liam Nelson Absolutely right!
@darkironyoshi9 жыл бұрын
Robert Lawrence I wouldn't say this was flanderization. I mean we didn't even GET to know these characters beforehand. There was the fandom but in the show they weren't explored. Flanderization refers to taking one part of a character and making that all the character is. Making Ned Flanders a "jesus freak". We don't really see that in the episode. For example Derpy isn't depicted as just comic relief or an idiot. She is shown to be a well meaning pony and a bit "ditzy". She makes mistakes and will try her best to make things better. There is clearly more to her than just one quality. As for Octavia it was clear she HAD to be prim and proper. I mean she did appear playing at the Gala. But eh she did end up playing with Vinyl. Showing that while she is sophisticated she is not "above" such music. Not to mention the inclusion of the Royal sisters arguing. As Doctor Wolf pointed out for once we see them as siblings rather than just rulers. Showing us another side of them. I could go on and on about the others but I'll leave that be. As for pandering it most certainly is. But i'd argue it is pandering done right. We get little stories of background characters that are actually pretty well done. And it doesn't feel forced since they are all connected to the wedding. And the characters that are focused on are given more character than one trait played for a laugh. Unlike what ultimately happened to Flanders.
@taddad26419 жыл бұрын
Liam Nelson Very much so. This story is more of an anthology thing, showing various ponies dealing with the wedding and preparations, with some silliness thrown in here and there. they are under developed, but i could easily see any one of these characters explored in greater depth. they were given enough flesh to there to be something to start with.

Robert Lawrence I don't think TBBBAP are much of reviewers anyways, I think they are just trying to fill Digi & Tommy's role of being hypernegetive about everything.

I truly loved this episode!!! I do admit that I did see the teasers since I can't help myself, but I still had my jaw dropped and laughing at the surprises that were in there. This was a fun episode and what the mayor said near the end made me happy to be in this community.

I knew nothing about this episode and I mean *nothing*. I don't really watch teasers in general but I knew that it was really hyped up, which made me excited for it. But I could never have guessed it would be *THIS*. Ever single moment my jaw was on the floor and my hands went in the air in excitement: "YES! Derpy talked!" "Holy s'''t DR. Wooves!" "HÖ, Lyran and Bon bon!" "Vinyl and Otavia!!!" Of course, this should just be a one time thing but I would enjoy if they snuck in a little bit of background character action when it's fitting.

This episode was one of the best, and it had so much thought put into it aswell, with things like giving hints that the Doctor Whooves might be a Time Lord, having Vinyl and Octavia living together and playing music(and which I am very thankful that Vinyl had no speaking line, cuz I would be a little disappointed if she did not have Nowacking voice acting as her). To see so many background ponies which have been given life and backstory by Brony´s being sort of adopted into the show really tells us fans how much the creators appreciate us

I absolutely ADORED this episode! This entire episode felt like a heartfelt tribute to the fandom, the characters the show has created, the characters the fandom has recognized, and even the town of Ponyville itself. My favorite moment had to be when Doctor Whooves shouted "Allons-y!". I never expected the show to dive that much into reference territory. Obviously, I'm a HUGE Doctor Who fan along with being a HUGE MLP fan. This will easily end up becoming one of my Season 5 favorites. Heck, it's already one of my favorite MLP episodes period. Like you, without irony, I say thanks to M.A. Larson.
@TWeckman19 жыл бұрын
I watched this after returning home from MLP-MSP. During the convention we had an episode screening along with a panel by M.A.Larson right after. While giving his thoughts on writing the episode and his favorite parts, he said that the episode was essentially a tribute to the Brony fandom, and without us, this episode would have never been possible. So for all the times we thank the writers, they will say that it is us that deserve the thanks for all that the fandom does to keep MLP alive and continuing to grow.

Everything about this episode was absolute PERFECTION. From Gummy, Twilight cane, jelly pony, Button Mash, the Doctor, to the marriage, Derpy and Doctor moment, Bonbon being a spy, Princess Luna and Celestia sister's bickering, everything, everything, everything...

I kinda like the idea of Vinyl being mute. And Bonbon being actually a secret agent - I was waiting and waiting for her to shout "Of course I am kidding!" But no Octavia,Vinyl, Derpy, Bonbon, Lyra... everypony in this episode was made so well. "Love letter to brony fandom" is quite fitting. MLP makers actually did it and made so wonderful episode about background ponies and some other... non-ponies? Donkies, sea monsters, changelings.. I loved every moment, grinning and almost crying like that sea monster thing did... Steven, was it? Also the time pony is awesome. And I can already see so many fanfics about that Changeling.

i did like the episode how ever i found little bit on short, because it was also 100th episode. i really though it became 1 hour special or 45 minutes episode to celebrate that mile step. how ever i know that more about wedding from mathilda and cranky but i did saw more derpy as main character to try solve her mistake on her derpy way. also asking help by her friend doctor whooves and try to solve it... meanwhile i gonna rewatch the episode because derpy is my favorite background pony but also the music is really nice in the show ^-^

I made sure I had as blind a view as I could get, no previews, no images, turning the sound down when folk spoke of it, and scrolled past comments on skype about it, and I was laughing so much. (although I did spot an animation error) So much "What's happening" "What Now" and the every frequent "OMG DID THEY JUST DO THAT" moment. Not my favourite, (that'd be the Discord one), but maybe my second or third favourite.

At 4:45: Oh, so that's where the visual "Jumping the shark" gag was. I heard it was in the episode as a gag, but I kept missing it. As for your questions: 1. I did see the teasers and synopsis, but remained otherwise spoiler-free. 2. Knowing or not didn't affect my reaction in a bad way. Not at all :-) 3.I think the fandom's going to be just fine in the long run. 4. Favorite Stand-Out Moments: I have several. The Mayor's speech at the end about "everyone being the star of their own stories", The completely unexpected return of the sea serpent from the Pilot fan-named Steven Magnet, That scene between Lyra and Bon Bon would work for my head fanon. Simply put, nothing in the episode bother me.

As for me, this episode was a lot of fun. The way all the characters were integrated into the episode really surprised me, and I was NOT expecting the route they took with BonBon/ Sweetie Drops. I laughed quite a bit at the episode, as well, and the Mayor's speech at the end was a BRILLIANT way to integrate the moral into the story. Fantastic work, as always, M.A. Larson! I gotta say. I've been in a pretty awful mood for the past few weeks. I have depression and it's gotten worse recently and it's caused me some distress... This episode was the first time in weeks I've laughed out loud. I seriously could not get through it in one sitting and needed breaks because I could not believe just what they were doing and putting on screen. I had no idea going into it what it would be about and it made me so happy to see all the love, care and comedy put into this beautiful episode. I think my favourite part was that a freaking prince and princess sat in the middle of a row. Nah, nah, my favourite part was actually the music battle between Octavia and Vinyl because it started out with her looking like just a pretentious classical composer but then subverted it with her just being critical of Vinyl's work and she actually does enjoy it. That was amazing. I totally got the feeling they would have practically trashed the room if she didn't remember she had to be somewhere

I watched the teasers and by doing so made me very nervous as to what we were gonna get. Teasers usually show the best parts of an episode that's to follow. This episode is by far my favorite MLP episode ever for a few reasons. First and foremost is the grand tip of the hat from the staff to the fandoms as many of the common tropes we see in our creative fandom are mentioned (Lyra/bon bon, Octy and Vinyl, etc.) Despite the fact that the staff cant fully enjoy the work of our community, they still show that they are tuned into what the community is doing and what our thoughts are on the world they've created. I don't know any other show that this is the case. Secondly, the context of the episode is so incredibly hilarious it had me in stitches. The fact that Cranky and Matilda know these ponies (And creatures) in such a way that they invited them to their wedding speaks volumes about the escapades of Cranky and Matilda. (I honestly believe that the Changeling must be an acquaintance of Cranky from his travels.) It shows consistency and depth while also hinting at potentially more information than we as a fandom considered. I expect to see stories about Cranky's escapades, or of Sweetie Drops involvement in managing Tartarus (That's gonna be interesting) and lets also look forward to more octy/scratch collab!

My fiancee and I have been watching your reviews for quite sometime, and how you expressed with great joy for this episode truly shows that this fandom has only gotten stronger over time. There are a couple of other reviewers that we have watched over time and unfortunately have lost the heart to continue liking MLP for, what feels like, the wrong reasons. But seeing your reviews, impressions and even appreciation of every video (alongside your neat narrative storytelling on the side) rekindles that heart and why we love to continue watching and contributing art for MLP to this day. If one day you ever decide to move on from MLP, the both of us are sure to understand. But until then, as someone who too strives to make others happy with our work, we say this: Thanks for everything, Dr. Wolf~

This is honestly my fave episode! I like how they put the whole thing in your face. I had to rewind a few parts to understand what is going on! And once i realized, i laughed so hard! I only saw one teaser and though that i was going to be bad, it might made the fandom very mad. But i see what they did here, they just bounced off the idea from us fandoms! I loved what they did with lyra's and Sweete Drop's friend ship! Also how they didn't give DJ-Pon 3 a voice. Cause that could of ruined all the voices they have already they gave her. Celestia and Luna honestly made me laugh! I knew they took all that princess stuff out the window and made them actully act like family. Also the Doc, they took time traveling to a whole new level. I laughed at so meany parts. Like that sea monster appering again. I did almost die of laughter of of button spinning around on the record thing or whatever and the guppy moment. Though it was a bit long.... Lastly, i want to say, that even though i didnt expect this, in the beggining i thought it was a dumb idea, but in the end, i was THIS DID NOT JUST HAPPEN! Honestly, i think i like this 20 times more then u!

This episode's moral has become one of my favourites in the show too, every character whether they are the main characters or supporting characters, have their own fantastic story to tell even with all of us here in the fandom making new stories each and every day and we make a difference in our lives. Thanks M.A. Larson ^^

I saw the spoilers leading up to this and it did make a impact as i did not get that first hand shock experience, but while it took the shock away it also allowed me to be prepared to think deeper into every clip throughout the episode, so knowing did put the enjoyment scale down a 2% but nothing more as it is still a wonderful slice of our brony life. The fact that the staff took the fandom idea's into the show is as i can see it only lovely as they rarely in a normal episode shows anything of this, but now know what to do when going into a scene with the main and some background characters, this just adds a ton of depth to the show and still leave the background ponies not too exploited. I must say when everything went in slow motion and the deep thoughts off gummy was put on, that was everything i needed for this episode, it made a minor part of the show expand and show that it was not an object it was a gummy. The instance with gummy is like in the fandom even though the silence(just the enjoy watchers of the show) fans just is there like he is, we fans still think deep about the show even though we are not a part of it, like this episode shows everything going on in the background, they are not just there, they are there for a reason, they have there life normal end going on as the rest of the main six. well it was a great episode and expanded the world and made it 20% cooler :P a bit too long comment from yours Nightsade Flash

1. As something behind the scene for the Doctor, did you hear him mumble about the 18th century? 2. I've always wondered about the inner monologue of Gummy. 3. Bonbon aka Agent Sweetie Drops has now made it into my work in progress spy thriller; not as a main character, but she has made it in there and added inspiration. This is definitely going to be an episode I'll rewatch several times.

I loved this episode! It was just brilliant, hilarious and full to the brim with jaw dropping moments. My #1 moment would have to be the Doctor saying "Allons-y". I literally jumped out my seat and shouted with amazement. I'm really happy with the choice they made to keep Vinyl mute. I think it adds a layer to her character rather than removing it. Also, she lives with Octavia? Ahh, Fansquee! Special Agent Sweetie Drops. I never saw that one coming. I loved it and filled my head cano- Oh wait. This was a real episode. This is Canon. Mind blowing! Lemme say this. At the end with Mayor Mare giving her speech, I agreed that she was in part speaking to the people watching at home. No, we may not be main characters but we are all the stars of our own little story that contributes to the big picture in the end. I may never become a known name in the fandom and many will never remember me. But I have touched the lives of many as have many unknowns touched me. Many may seek to shut you down and make you feel small, but even the smallest piece of a puzzle can help complete the big picture.

It has definitely taken a spot near the top of my list of favorite episodes, not just for what it represents, not all the fanservice, but just that this episode, in it's very existence, is an example that the people behind the show care about what they are writing, and that in my opinion is why all great shows, animated or otherwise succeed.

Well, Dr. Wolf, since you ask so nicely: I went into this episode mostly blind and I loved the episode _immensely._ Enough so that I structured my own usual after-action 'self-review' comments as a kind of Love Letter Reply to the Show -- which I fully admit is _extra_ cheesy and silly and sappy on my part, but ... well ... _that's how I roll._ While saying my favorite part was *_the 'all of it'_* is, perhaps, a bit of a cop-out -- even though it's surprisingly true -- I will add that one of the things that stands out to me the more I consider the episode is how many story possibilities this all opens up. The show has always been great about sticking in little bits and pieces, hints and images, names and places which (at first) might seem like a throw away or one-off joke ... only to revisit those elements later, fleshing them out in more detail, and rendering them important to the story. As such, I can't help but see all this loving characterization, over the top silliness, and general whimsy as not only fun for the sake of fun, but also as _seeds_ for future stories. Seeds both for the fan community, which (as we know) can take the smallest detail from a background and craft elaborate, delightful head-canons from them -- but for the show itself! I can't wait to see what sort of plots and places, interactions and conversations, will sprout up in future episodes and reference back to the ponies and events of _Slice of Life._ I'm sure that both what the fan community produces from this embarrassment of riches the show has showered us with and what the show-writers can add in to other plots with the aid of the now-established cannon will all be wonderful! And, like so many of the episodes of the show that I find _really good_ -- this one, even with all the silliness, makes the world of _My Little Pony_ feel deeper, richer, broader, and more genuine. As Mayor Mare rightly points out, it isn't just the 'mane cast' that's responsible for this -- it's _everypony_ large and small ... right down to the littlest changeling in the back row! And as always, kindly remember: y'all are awesome! Stay awesome.

The only thing I know for sure that I will never be able to look at Gummy, with out herring that inner monologue going on. Even in this video every time I saw him I had to stop the video because I started laughing. Even some of the names we got for characters that didn't have name just make the episode even better. My only question at the end of this is, Who invited the Changeling and how do they know one another?

Oh wow is right! One of the best things about our community is the creativity, we were all INSPIRED by the show and took elements and created all sorts of things out of it. To have the show recognise that is amazing! 0:59 gush away my friend, I'll be right there with you! The wedding between Matilda and Cranky was a stroke of genius, but there is another little reason why I love this show: Even when they are not taking themselves seriously, their stuff is still coherent and watch-able. I remember the episode livestreem when Derpy was named spoke, everyone FREAKED OUT! The fact that even back then the show staff had given a "fandom nod" was a gift that we have treasured. Name drama aside, having her back, speaking and now with character and a place in the plot of an episode is just such a wonderful thing. Doctor Whooves as cannon (already in the comics which are also cannon) in an episode was brilliant. I heard Derpys line about "going back and changing time" and immediately thought of the Doctor, fully expecting to go over to him on the other side of the table. For them to carry the reference on fully to voice him in an Anglo-American voice, have him blather on about science and the whole scene was brilliant. That had me shocked, laughing and confused all at once. So when I heard about Tina Guo doing some music for the show I was pretty interested, I love that Daniel Ingram gets some fantastic musicians to work with him. Then (about two seconds later) when I found out she was a dubstep cellist I pretty much freaked out. Putting those two words together can only mean one thing for a brony. I tried to avoid spoilers but I did see a still frame of Viny and Octys house, with the two differing designs for each half, I pretty much freaked out again and said something along the lines of "THATSSOAWSEOMESGASDDFASDHFL" and didn't shut up for a good few hours. When I finally got to watch the episode, that whole scene was damn near perfect, first Scratchie annoying the classically trained musician with some disjointed electronic noises, but then to have her clock on to the style and match it, bringing two styles together. Fandom gold right there! Celly and Luna acting as everyday ponies was great, especially seeing them make up at the end ^.^ . Just goes to show that even though they are powerful, looked up to and in control of the entire country, they are still 'pony' as we are all 'human'. Nice touch to bring that home. Sweetie drops being BonBons real name is brilliant on several levels, because BonBon is the fan name, she uses it everyday but her REAL name (both in the show and the toy line) is Sweetie Drops. 'I see what you did there' mode engaged. Emphasising the 'best friends' thing over and over to sink their ship was a little harsh, especially in our current culture where we shouldn't be questioning any sexuality other than hetro, big debate for a kids show so maybe they didn't want to stir that one up. (I'm not a shipper* so it doesn't really bother me too much either way.) (*Except Shining Armor and Cadence: OTP) I think the Equestria Daily Followup squared away the BonBon/Lyra scene perfectly: "What the actual f[buy some apples!]k. Imagine you were following instructions to bake a cake, and it started out with wheat flower instead of white flower, and you found that a little strange but kept rolling with it. Then, a page turn later, the recipe calls for driving to Wisconsin and finding a spectral wolf to lead you to the Arc of the Covenant. That's kind of what happened in this scene. I love it." Gummys little existential crisis was a total whiplash of a mood change, real 'what the gak' moment. Perfect performance by Tockar. Jumping the shark. How do I even talk about that. They put a shark, in the middle of a road where sharks have no reason to be, and had some characters quite definitely jump over it. I can't. I just can't. So very hilarious. The whole episode is not taking anything seriously. Nitpick away to your hearts desire, this episode may stand up to scrutiny but not even the show staff took this one seriously. The Mayors speech was as equally touching as most of this episode is crazy. I really love listening to con panels with either Nicole Oliver or John De Lancie, because at some point they will just blow you out of your chair with something so profound, so simple yet something to live by. I love that they had the Mayor say a little speech along those lines. Yea, thanks MA Larson. I couldn't agree more. I really hate how we get these big dramas over things in the show, or in the comics and this little group of hateful bronies go on a spree, picking out certain members of staff and abusing them. I've had episodes that I dislike, but I've never had that "ruined forever" or "leaving the fandom" rubbish over it because I RESPECT THE STAFF, I respect their creativity and their ability to make the show. You'd be damn right to say they are good at it, it's their jobs. *So thankyou to the writers, the animators, the directors, the Voice Actors, the audio editors, the musicians, the legal team, the IT group, everyone at the hub, everyone at discovery family and everyone and anyone else involved in making that awesome television program we all watch and love!* I didn't watch all of the spoilers and teasers because I now have the opportunity to watch with two other bronies rather than just watching it by myself. Hey, friendship is magic, yo. I had to wait until Tuesday night got gather the three of us together, and we watched it with several other people who aren't bronies. The non bronies obviously didn't get a lot of the references, except Doctor Whooves of course. We were all impressed at what they put into this episode, Constanty going from 'what, how did they put that there' to freaking out over Derpy speaking and every other reference. Loving every second! I loved this 'love letter' from the staff. Thank you so much :D I'm pretty sure the pandas in this episode aren't going to have the slightest impact on anything in following episodes. Why? Because it's a tongue in cheek official parody of the unofficial content. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get any real mention of anything like this until episode 200. Sure we will see the background characters, and they'll get the odd speaking role here and there too, but this episode was for the staff to loosen up and do something crazy for once. My favourite moment? The throwback to episode 2. Steven Magnet sacrificing his moustache for Cranky. Brought a tear to my eye.... LIQUID PRIDE, I wasn't crying! Speaking of liquid pride, Shining Armor was hilarious. The flower trio where a blast. Jumpy the Shark is going to have 10k word fanfics by tomorrow night. Vinyl and Octys house Derpy speaking

It's probably nothing, but I think I found a serious subplot to this episode. After Bon Bon admits she is a secret agent, there are a few characters (Doctor Whooves, Steven Magnet) Who react very casually when talking about the bugbear. They have all had adventures outside of Ponyville, and they all attend Cranky's wedding. Perhaps they were all, Cranky included, part of Bon Bon's secret agency.

Not knowing what was going to happen in this episode was the best way to watch this episode. Sure, I knew it was gonna involve background characters and the like but not knowing why or how make it much more enjoyable to watch. I watched it last night. My brother and I could not stop grinning or talking about it because it was done so well and we got to see Derpy and The Doctor finally together and talk to each other. It was just perfect.

On Equestria Daily, We've had past discussions about "Dream Episodes". My answer was always; An episode akin to Simpsons classic "23 Short Stories About Springfield", Where a select handful of BG ponies would be brought to the forefront and allowed to shine, if only for 1 or 2 minuets! So when this episode was announced, I was over the moon! :D As for the execution, Well, It rare I ever completely agree with KZbin Brony, but I COMPLETLY second everything you said here doc! I LOVED IT! :D Also, Gummie's deep thoughts was the hardest I've laughed at his show since Sonic Rain-Boom! (yay) :3

my personal favourite moment in the episode was when Vinyl and Octavia are riding through Ponyville on that . . . Wubroller (as I call it) at the speed of sound. It was funny and actually pretty epic. The dubstep BGM was also really fitting for the setting.

This episode was so good, pretty much everything became canon for me that i wanted to. The Doctor is the real highlight for me though the way he was voiced and animated really showed how he is another interpretation of the Doctor from Doctor who

I watched every promo at least five times and that made it soooo exciting for me. I loved everything about the doctor and derpy, especially the scarf and his mannerisms along with the "Allonsy" line, I felt like they were throwing the all the whovians like me a huge bone. Did you catch the way Lyra was sitting when BonBon came to apologize, its like "Hey we know you guys think she likes humans, here she'll sit like one again". It was so great that they made Luna and Celestia argue, and so much fun. I completely caught the message in the end, and am so glad you brought it up. I'm still super hyped about this episode even hours after it aired. I think I'm go re-watch it.

I had the great honor and pleasure to view this episode at mlp msp this weekend with a episode breakdown by MA Larson, saber and ace. Good grief there was so much that got cut just for time and yet the episode was still a work of art.

I'm actually having fun listening to this review over and over to hear DrWolf say: "Oh, wow." and "What in the WORLD just happened here?" and "I don't even know where to start with this episode!" in a completely jaw-dropping-the-floor woohoo moment. I'm pretty sure I've not heard DrWolf's little lupine jaw hit the floor so completely, and it's almost as adorable as the episode. :D

Dear Dr. Wolf, I came into this episode watching every trailer, promo, and spoiler; however, my enjoyment of the episode couldn't waver if you got a ultra large fan to blow them away. The detail popped, the characters stepped forward to the center stage and characters that have been criticized by the fandom, and even myself, got more character development than I've ever seen them get in the full length episodes they've been given. Based on the promo for the next episode as well, this might be the end of our journey with the Mane Six, but a new journey for more characters in the show. Sincerely, your future evil overlord, Crimson Glow

D----Doctor.... HE SAID ALLONS-Y!!!! OMG I WAS FANGIRLING EVERY SCENE HE HAD! Even the scarf was amazing! And his and Derpy's friendship being cannon is just...wow.... And Twilicane and a CHANGELING making a re-appearance?! Now that's something I didn't expect. M.A. Larson, if you are reading this, I now pronounce you the king of My Little Pony: Friendship is magic until the end of time and space. Allons-Y everypony! And thanks Doc for making a review the day the episode came out (like always) most bronies and pegasisters post their reviews at the end on the week, and I was really looking forward to seeing your review on this, that's why you're one of my favorite MLP reviewers/bronies on the Internet

I'd just like to know the background story on that changeling...maybe it'll be a future episode? (how much you wanna bet that it'll take another 100 episodes to get another slice of life episode?)

This episode had me chuckling all the way through, my outright favorite moments were the arguing of Celestia and Luna (especially when it made a call back to A Canterlot Wedding in a rather unique way, in opinion at least) and Shining Armor with Cadance with Cadance explaining why he was crying (also her side note regarding it). That all said I was hoping we'd finally get to hear vinyl talk, throughout all her appearances (this episode included) she hasn't said a single word. They also made it very clear that Vinyl and Octavia have a non-romantic relationship, that is to say they clearly friends and even seem to have a positive working relationship, but at no points did I see anything romantic about their relationship. I also went back a few times when I thought I saw a changeling at the back of the wedding. I hope the writers give us another episode that focuses on the background ponies, granted we'll probably get the focus on a different set background characters if not many of the same ones we got to better know this time around. Next time we might actually get Flash Sentry as focus character, and thus actually get some character from him to off in the future. No offense to the Flash fan, or haters for that matter, but his decided lack of a presence or personality actually makes it so that I can't lean one way or another within those camps, I'm of what I call the third camp (those that tolerate him). It's easy to hate or like a character when you have some sense of their personality, Flash has had such a little prescence in the series (being introduced in Equestria Girls, Getting sidelined in Rainbow Rocks, and only a small hoofful of appearances in the show proper that barely amounted to more than a few seconds that contained no dialogue) to really give a sense of a personality or identity. I don't expect another episode like this to show up in the coming season, but if the makes it to season 8 or 9 or 10 I would love to see another episode like this in one of those coming seasons. We're just barely into season 6, season 7 has yet to be confirmed. Regardless of how long this series runs we can all say that it was something we truly enjoyed and caused us to explore aspects of ourselves and the world around us in ways we didn't think of really trying until it came into our lives.

I was surprised at how much dialogue Derpy got in this episode! I really hope she talks more in future episodes :)

I didn't know what to expect, since I don't watch the Hub so much since Discovery took over, I never saw any previews for the episode. BUT. This hands-down has to be one of my favorite episodes in all of MLP~Friendship is Magic, it was just an utter joy to watch and really made my Saturday. X3 And it had all my fave background ponies, though not all of them were named by name, we know who they are. Derpy, Dr. Hooves, Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, Lyra, Bon Bon/Sweetie Drops. It was pure joy to see all of them get some spotlight, and I hope every so often we'll see more episodes like this. Or at least more speaking roles for them in regular episodes. ^_^ Only people who are just looking for something to complain about will complain about this episode, in my opinion. I was talking to my buddy Dave the other day, people had to deal with so much negative and truly bad cartoons, anime, comicbooks, manga, books, TV shows, movies, and videogames over the years, they don't know when to stop nitpicking and just ENJOY when something really IS good. Also, for all the positive commentary for this video dude, you have a new subscriber. :3

for me the best moment was Celestia and Luna's argument over the gift. Like you said it is them acting like sisters and not princesses, but I also love how when Spike walked up they put on smiles to hide the argument then started up as soon as he left.

I'm gonna have to agree with everything you said here, Doc. This could've EASILY failed and been nothing but a pandering mess. But it surprisingly worked! I think it's because the writers did what the old writers of Spongebob did and take pretty basic and even strange ideas (in this case, ideas from the fans) and just rolled with it and did whatever they thought was funny to make it their own. And thankfully most, if not ALL, of the jokes and moments hit the mark. And some took me by surprise. Like Bon Bon being a secret agent, Vinyl Scratch and Octavia being roommates (and Octavia REALLY getting into the music), that fabulous sea serpent from the pilot returning and as it turns out he's close friends with Cranky (and him giving Cranky his mustache as a replacement toupee), Gummy's inner monologue, that random changeling near the end, the mundane take on Celestia and Luna, that quick live action still frame, and the Big Lebowski ponies coming back (I would've REALLY loved it if the other two talked and were voiced by John Goodman and Steve Buscemi. But that would've been asking for much). Some people might think that the show had "stooped a new low", but I honestly don't think that the writers will do anything more with these characters and established relationships that they did here. And that's would be a good thing, 'cause ya know what? This is enough. You've seen what the fans have done with nothing and somehow made it into something. Now we've got so much fuel the tank is over flooded! Wow, I really didn't expect to go off on a tangent like that. Bottom line, I LOVED this episode. It's in my top 5 (if not, top 10) favorite episodes in the entire series. And I actually found doing what you did at the end of this video, and said "Thanks M.A Larson." with sincerity.

I actually see the post about the 100th episode on Equestria Daily and I was like: Nope I'm not gonna see any spoiler at all. Because I wanted the experience to be a genuine surprise. At the first image (where the CMC are with other ponies) I think the episode will be about what the towns ponies think about the Mane6 and their adventures and stuff like that. But nope. Different little stories about the Ponyville ponies. My favorite part was with Derpy (or Muffins whatever you feel like calling her) and the Doctor, their hug and all the moments they were together. And wow with the house of Tavi and Vinyl, their musical number and their jumping the shark moment. Finally what I really appreciate about this episode was the absence of the Mane6. Yeah I love Twilight and Applejack but we see them every week. We don't see this other ponies making their life's or facing they own problems and relationships. For me that was the best part of it. Also DerpyxDoctor ship FTW with Lyra and BonBon too.

I LOVE THIS EPISODE!!! When Steven Magnet started talking I perked up and thought 'I know that voice, but were?' And when he came on screen a squealed with nostalgia. My favourite bits BY FAR had to be The Doctor. He was just too funny, like when he hear Derpy was going to use his fireworks as flowers or when he had to wear the scarf and said alonzy. And sweetie drops as a spy! Poor Lyra, also Lyra x Bon Bon confirmed!
