These guys are fearless and professional. Not like some, shouting and crowing about a large catch just for sport with the best equipment in the world.

@@GoldenGod69 It's not like the sharks are swimming on land to eat people, if you get killed by a shark you probably deserve it. For those befuddled by the price mentioned “50,000 rupiah or around 30 us dollar”, please kindly note as mentioned in description, it was extracted from documentary “overseas legends - the shark fin” which was made around year 1996 (before asian financial crisis). At that time FX rate is around Rp 1,800/USD. So, considering the time lapse, financial crisis, inflation, etc at the time, that amount is not as low as we thought now (still u fair price for the fishermen though).

To those confused why they only get $30 for such a struggle: They sell the body MINUS the fins for $30. Shark's meat is very stinky, smells like ammonia. The price is so cheap because for most people, the meat is only palatable salted (preserved salted fish). The fins make the most of their catch, the body is only their "bonus". I'm an Indonesian and $30 is not much even at the year this documentary filmed.

It is said that this documenter was made in 1996. USD 30 at that time was equal to 50K Indonesian Rupiah. Thats alot of money they earned in 1 just 1 day. For comparison, Indonesian goverment civil servant higest monthly salary at that time was 120K Indonesian Rupiah. That was a month and this guys got half of that amount just in 1 day hunting so yeah thats not bad at all. Thats why they can afford a decent motor boat. look up what sharks do to people, also terrible. if they had the resources i bet they would've killed it, but they didn't have so much as a bow, they were probably surprised they caught the big one and i bet they prob catch much smaller ones like the one the big one ate. hell the bait prob attracted the small one which attracted the big one who just got caught slacking (my guess) also, this shark who suffered that night did so after biting a smaller one of his own kind in half

Well done… fascinating subject and makes one realize how blessed we are in a very different way of life. I was a commercial diver for many years and took jobs all over the world. I have undergraduate degrees in biology, zoology and graduate degrees in marine biology and engineering. I am not a young man any more and so my memories of people like this making a living in the seas are first hand and indelibly inscribed in my mind. I worked in many sharks’ situations…. dozens actually in the Caribbean, Central and South America and both coasts of Africa. I have killed quite a few big dangerous sharks that threatened my teams and witnessed first hand what happens in attacks and several fatalities. You don’t forget that either. For the sake of accuracy I will point out that of the three “ unholy trio” of requiem sharks responsible for the growing number of attacks and deaths annually… great white, tiger and bull… it is the bull shark that is responsible for the vast majority of attack episodes …. for decades. Basically they are the most aggressive, will eat anything, do not test bump’ first and are flu f in great numbers all over the world…. including fresh water rivers 100 miles or more from the ocean. Thanks for this video.

I could swear on a stack of Bibles, as a biologist you're the nastiest piece of work I ever met, You give biologists a bad name, man. You were doin'alright when you said you were a commercial diver, than you screwed it all up with your supposed degrees. You know, there's something about professionals that a layabout could never sham: the language of knowledge. Hate to break it to you, You ain't got it, not in the slightest. A) you say You worked in several shark situations and witnessed several fatalities, especially in the Caribbean. You see, I took a look at all the shark attacks on record in the areas where you said you sailed (basically all over the world, you're more tramp than the Lady,😅), and it doesn't add up. Since 1580 (440 years ago) we have on record, in the Caribbean Islands, 33 shark attacks at the Bahamas (that's one attack every 13 years), 13 attacks at Cuba (one in 33 years), 4 in Haiti and 3 in Jamaica. That's it, since 1580. All over the Caribbean Islands. You were also in south America, good for you, people die in packs from shark attacks there, don't they? Since 1931, in Brazil 1.2 attacks/year, Ecuador 0.13, Argentina and Venezuela 0.04, Uruguay and Colombia had both a single attack in the whole period. Full stop. Hardly a carnage, I'd say. No need to mention my sources, a biologist like You knows them too well...but how come You never had a glance thru them, prof.?? I wonder where You witnessed all those shark situations, loads of fatalities...at the theaters maybe? J. Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean, could it be the deal? B)many sharks threatened your crew? A biologist would never allow untrained personnel to dive near sharks (at least those from 7ft. on), and trained personnel would know how to minimize the risks, there's biologist doin' that on a daily basis, did You know that? C)You Say number of attacks îs on the rise globally. Wrong, they're going down , due to shark overfishing and better security measures implemented in many coastal areas. D)Bull sharks are responsible for the vast majority of attacks. WRONG again, You don't know the abc of it, dude. Here's our results, attacks by species: 1)Carcharodon carcharias 2)Galeocerdo cuvier 3)Carcharhinus leucas 4)Carcharhinus spp. You're familiar to scientific names, aren't You, prof.? E) In your fictional "unholy trio of requiem sharks", only the Bull can be included, Great Whites and Tiger belong to other families, genius. I'd say, You were a fisherman who fished sardines by day and dreamed of sharks by night, and I'll stick to that. You could have made an excellent clown, too, in my opinion. Many people talented like you 'round here, doc.?

I respect your profession. i can not figure out a single shark attack where the shark is to blame thoe. is is their domain, and when ever you decide to venture out on the ocean, or rivers they hunt in your the wiser. i do not know much of the trade, but i would imagine that professional divers now a days have every single tool available to operate in complete safety if they chose to. or rather invest into. As a mechanical engineer myself designing offshore equipment, i can off my head get 10-20 ideas to design diver safe cages that can fit to every purpose. like provide cover doing inspections or fitting/connecting subsea cables or other stuff.
