I’m new to fly tying, I haven’t even tied a fly yet. Thanks for this tip, I’m gonna just sit and practice this til I have it right. One bonus for not jumping right in is finding this little nuggets of information. Going through all your videos thanks again.

Just another reason I'm a subscriber - you choose topics others won't - AND your delivery is clear. You are a great teacher.

My question is, how to we keep the bobbin the same distance away from the hook? Does the tension pull thread off the spool or do you unroll it with your ring finger?

Mark, You can adjust the tension by gripping the bobbin a little or just set the tension in advance of using the bobbin and let it do the work. Kelly

thanks for the video. I definitely need to work on this. do you see any value in using bobbins that regulate tension like Rite brand bobbins?

Awesome. I am guilty. Thanks for setting us free.

For some flies, getting the thread to lay flat is important, how do you handle that while keeping the proper tension?
@TheSlideinn7 жыл бұрын
Chris, when you need your thread flat it is even more important to keep constant tension. You have to start with your thread flat to get it to lay flat, and keeping it tight keeps it laying flat, it does not get the chance to roll when it is tight. KG

... tying for a long time (yup) ... self taught (yup). I have always adjusted the bobbin arms to create the tension on the spool. In watching you, it looks like the only tension comes from the pressure you apply to the bobbin. Am I correct in this? ... will give it a try tonight - thanks Kelly!
