Considering the thousands of impacts the weakest part of the slide takes (guide rod hole) during functional use over the small contact area where the recoil assembly meets the slide hole cutout, I’d wager these rails aren’t coming anywhere near cracking after afew taps. Especially considering these impacts are definitely not as violent as the impacts induced at the guide rod cutout during firing). This isn’t something I’d ever do. I’d have a gunsmith do it or i’d contact Glock. I 💯 believe JG knows what he’s doing. I’ve only ever seen Glock slides crack when someone drops them on on hard surfaces directly on to the edge of the guide rod hole which is also a MUCH more stress than he’s generating with his ball peen hammer. For reference, the yield strength of 17-4 SS used in these pistols is anywhere between 100,000 to 170,000 psi depending on heat treatment or, if they use 416 SS it’s 40,000 psi. Since the hammer face has a relatively large surface contact area on the rail he’s not going to induce anywhere near that kind of stress. Unlike dropping the slide and having it impact on a single point on the edge of the rounded guide rod hole.
@billbob6356 Жыл бұрын
So some guide rods have a bigger diameter wher it sits in the barrel. So have you ever had to take material off of the guide rod? I had to on one I bought offline because it made the gap bigger in my slide. It was tighter because it took up the slack but I had a bigger slide to frame gap and I didn't like that .

This is exactly the answer I was looking for. I have a shadow systems MR920 and when I pull the trigger the slide comes up, when the trigger breaks the slide comes down, lots of play, and I can see the sights and red dot move a lot, especially when dry firing. @@nd8504 I ended up not doing it. I was about to but shadow systems told me to try it with the mag installed. I put the mag in and it does it very minimal. this works on a 1911 frame because the peened area is always contacting the slide as it moves through its cycle. but this method only tightens up the slide in one position. if you moved the slide back an inch it would be loose as before. so how does this increase accuracy?
@johnnyglocks6 жыл бұрын
Because of the solid lock up.
@cavalieroutdoors60362 жыл бұрын
The barrel should be locked until the bullet exits the barrel. Only after the bullet leaves the muzzle will the slide start to move backward & the gun come out of battery, and at that point it doesn't matter how loose or rattle-y the slide is because the round has already been sent.

@KanoDailyThePhilippinesandMore7 жыл бұрын
I've had Glocks that were just ridiculously loose. Just inserting a loaded magazine into the gun gave you a trigger job. On a lot of Glocks, you can see the slide moving when you pull the trigger. There's no way to achieve repeatable precision on a striker-fired gun's trigger, which has parts in both the slide and the frame, unless you have the slide and the frame in the same location every time. So this is definitely something I always look for in a Glock. I'm not interested in the ones that rattle. I know it makes some people feel cool to say (especially with 1911s), "I always just look for the one that rattles the most, so I know it's reliable." I am always happy to leave the loose ones for people like that.

I did this to my 19's slide except I used a steel block about 2 inches by one inch square to get the exact angle I wanted. Starting off with light taps and checking any movement as I went along, then increasing the hits until I reached the desired results yielded me a perfectly tight slide with no play. Hammering the slide is a well known way of accurizing a 45 ACP. If a Glock slide has up and down movement, that movement plays on the sear to striker engagement and that is not a good thing to have.
@69ChevyGarage3 жыл бұрын

@toobeer Жыл бұрын
@@bidenstoletheelection9116 But what it does do is make it so any potential upward motion of the slide when you put the magazine in does not lessen the contact relationship between the frame mounted crucifix and the slide mounted striker, which keeps the gun safe by not decreasing the contact between the two as the slide rises. ALSO, if the slide and barrel operate as a unit. Can you be sure that when the gun is fired and the loose slide and barrel (before tightening) move, that movement, even in a very small amount, doesn't take place before the bullet exits the barrel?

OK, that's about 3 months of shooting on my practice gun. I've been reluctant to mess with this in the past, due to the possibility of loosening over time, and then needing to readjust. But it would be a big help to take up some of the vertical play in terms of dialing in a consistent trigger.

I know this is a late reply, but I would think just where the tabs are. You would really only want the slide tight in battery, that is the only time you would use the trigger. Once it's out of battery you would want some space so there would be no binding.

What is not mentioned is the slide coating is extremely hard and does not bend. In other words, it will crack. If you decide to adjust your glock accordingly, be warned. Will this adjustment make your Glock more accurate? Yes, technically, minutely over distance. Is it worth having to refinish your slide if the adjustment is large? Your call. 5 cents worth of free advice.
@johnnyglocks7 жыл бұрын
Ed Penczek Thanks for your perspective. I usually only do this if it is absolutely necessary. And as you can see this gentleman's gun is designed for distance shots. Also I have Never had the finish crack but as you said "technically' speaking it could crack.

Ed, what are you talking about? You are thinking about hard paint over a flexible surface, yes it will crack, but that is not how Glocks are refinished. They don't have a "coating" on top of the metal, they have a "treatment" done to the metal that bonds to it in molecular level. It's inside the metal so it will move with it. dont spread ignorance. Google is your friend.

@johnnyglocks7 жыл бұрын
Freedom Fighterz it's a production gun there are big variances in slide to frame tolerance. So it wasn't a perfect pistol and it's lock up was horrible which affected engagement and Trigger action. Maybe you can tell us your credentials and how many Glocks you have worked on?
@forrestyoung65887 жыл бұрын
JOHNNY GLOCKS the persona. Im a gunsmith and an NRA certified self defense trainer. Im also a competition shooter myself. I get what your trying to do. I run compensators myself. I also drop in new triggers, but to be honest the pistol I run right now has a stock trigger with a minus connector. Other than that all my mods are to the outside of the pistol. I know many competition shooters and never even heard of someone wanting to do this to a gun. My glock, stock from the factory shoots 3.2 inch groups with factory ammo at 50 yards. So you cant say that whatever you do to any gun is going to compensate for human error. You will never be more accurate than a stock Glock. So why would you focus on the internals when it's the external features of the gun that are going to help you shoot the pistol better. It's how you shoot the gun that defies how accurate you will be not the internal mechanisms of the pistol itself. At least not in a quality made pistol like a Glock.
@forrestyoung65887 жыл бұрын
JOHNNY GLOCKS the persona ... also I own 16 Glocks. So I think I've worked on a few.
@johnnyglocks7 жыл бұрын
Freedom Fighterz I don't have too too much time to debate this. You have valid points and I have worked on Glocks in the thousands and there are guns that need work to the internals that most people don't think about. so I guess you can call it innovation through experience. I guess nothing should be done to a gun internally to enhance it. What if I put a 10 x scope on a top of my glock. It's going to enhance my sight picture which is a huge part of shooting and it's an external enhancement but it's not practical. However there is a middle ground. In all my videos I always stress unless it's necessary "less is always more." There are sleuth of competitors that do this to their Glocks I'll refer you to Robin Taylor's book titled The Glock in competition. It's a great read and you can hear about stuff competitors do that is just seemingly crazy. Like cutting a 45 degree angle across the striker and matching that angle with the Seer because the trigger bar has a inclination to rise up and to the left. If I'm doing something with a Glock it's from experience and A Lot of it. I really do appreciate your perspective so don't think I'm being disingenuous or cocky or anything. There's no way to learn unless I remain teachable with very little ego.
@forrestyoung65887 жыл бұрын
JOHNNY GLOCKS the persona well it most certainly seems like you know what your doing. As long as the end user knows the benefit and possible consequences of any modifications I don't see issues with it, even if I don't understand why. Its seems like your experienced and im not doubtful of the quality of your work. Just a note to anyone, if you want something like this done, maybe have a gunsmith go at it. Experience is everything when it comes to advanced modifications. Get some sort of a warranty so if they muk it up, its on them.
