Would you discuss the canape 1S in preference to raising diamonds? The hand seems worth 1-1/2+ bids, and the diamond fit increases that.

Great insights Allison. Very interesting analysis of the 10H lead.

you can always ask the opposition what their leads signify... don't be afraid to ask the opposition... some pairs play strong tens or rusinow leads or top of nothing... here I don't think the lead is relevant... rho should return a diamond regardless and try and apply some pressure.

Sources I've read say that a splinter bid is a double jump. So why is 3H after 1S a splinter bid rather than a jump shift?

Thanks for this. Very insightful - would appreciate if there might be some mouseover to show the meaning of the bids

3h is the splinter bid 4d is a 1st round control in diamonds looking for slam... but also denies 1st round control in clubs.

not clear how 4D shows only control but not suit support, &does splinter show Sp support?

the splinter shows 4 card spade support and the diamond bid shows first round control in diamonds according to bbo... as she said... most good players tend to play first and second round controls... the diamond bid doesn't necessarily show or deny support... just first round control.

Why don't we want to lead away from a King? Don't we want to make the King good?
