This is an ultra-short video that shows how easy it is to install a 1Ch Inching WiFi switch in a Centurion D5 Evo gate motor.
The eWelink 1Ch Inching switch (previously assumed to be Sonoff) used in this video is available at www.isphome.co.za, currently priced at R175
Should you wish to install one of these switches, I have provided the steps below and in the video.
NOTE: Any and all attempts to follow the steps as depicted in the video and below are done at your own risk. You assume full responsibility for any damage that my result as a consequence. If unsure, please consult a qualified person for assistance.
1) Disconnect 220v and 12v battery to the motor to prevent short circuits ...or electrocuting yourself
2) Connect the WiFi switch's 12v- and 12v+ terminals to the corresponding terminals on the Gate Motor
3) Connect the WiFi switch's COM terminal to the corresponding terminal on the Gate Motor
4) Connect the WiFi switch's N/O terminal to the TRG terminal on the Gate Motor (on some motors, e.g. ET, the terminal is marked Bt for Button Trigger.)
5) Re-connect the battery and 220V.
Pair the WiFi switch to the router.
6) If you don't have the eWeLink app installed on your phone yet, now is the time to do so. Look for the video dealing with this if you need help.
7) Ensure that Location Services is activated on the phone.
8) On the switch, press and hold the "Match" button for 7 seconds (until the LED starts flashing), The Match button is the one closest to the centre or inside of the circuit board.
9) While the LED is flashing on the switch, click the "+" sign on the eWelink App, select Quick Pairing, select the correct WiFi SSID and enter the password... CORRECTLY.
10) once the switch is found and paired, change the name to a more user friendly name.
11) BEFORE TRYING TO OPEN GATE, change the setting to INCHING mode, which basically means that when you press the button, the switch will only switch on for a second and then off again, thereby simulating a button press.
a. In eWeLink press on the switch icon, to open the menu (not the on/off button)
b. Click on the settings icon in the top left corner to open the settings screen
i. Click on “Inching”
ii. Select 1 second as the duration
iii. Save
Currently the switch used in this video is avaialble here:

If you are interested in other options, e.g. additional sensor or a switch for the Tuya / Smart Life app, please use this link:

Awesome guide 👍 Though, I have one question. If i have the sensors on the gate to prevent it from closing on a vehicle, would it still work if i were to use this sonoff switch? So if i were to say "Close the gate" and a car was in the way, would it stop the gate or still close it?

The wifi module simulates a button press. I am guessing that the beams will work exactly the same as when you pressed the remote button, i.e. as soon as the beam is interrupted, it should stop the gate motor. I am unfortunately not 100% sure, so please test first :)

Brilliant video. Works perfectly. Any suggestions on how to get the sonoff switch to recognise that the gate has been opened with the original remote? I have setup my boundary lights to turn on automatically (also running a sonoff switch) when I open the gate. This works only when opening the gate via the app though. Not when you open the gate using the original remote. Any suggestions on how to get this working for both methods of opening the gate?

The switches with the magnetic contact sensor (instead of the bar switch in the video) should address your problem - see link below. You can also add a separate contact sensor afterwards, e.g. Zigbee contact sensor, but will take some effort to weatherproof and set-up. My suggestion is to look at the following; www.isphome.co.za/products/eachen-gd-dc5-garage-door-opener-and-sensor)

@isphome1
@isphome1 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can! Most garage doors have a "remote trigger" (look for Trg or BT Trg) connection that just needs to be "closed" to the Common (Com) connection for a second to trigger the motor. If this is the case case, you should be good to go.

Its raining in ZA so as soon as the sun is out the girls and I will tackle this little project. However, I want to wow them with your "Hey Google Open Gate"... That doesn't seem to be in the video How To??? Or will it be in the app? Thanks again.

You will have to create a new routine in Google assistance routines. From there you'll add a starter "open the gate" or "close the gate" and then add the action which will be to switch on the switch. Hope this helps.

@pieterdp1626
@pieterdp1626 5 ай бұрын
Hi Jacques, Do you have the D5 EVO or D5 Smart? There could be a few reasons for the behaviour, but I would probably start with the following, (in this order). 1) Are you sure that you connected to COM and TRG (and not COM and PED)? 2) Is the smart switch set to Inching... Assuming that you are using the switch as per the video, there are 2 places to do this: In the eWeLink App, go to the switch's settings (3 dots in upper right corner and select Inching, activate the "Inching Settings", set the duration to 1s AND CLICK SAVE. THEREAFTER also press the mode button on the smart switch (not the pairing button). It will toggle between Inching and Self Locking mode. If these suggestions do not work, there may be an interference or other issue with the installation or switch. (I hope that one of the above may help.)

@isphome1
@isphome1 2 жыл бұрын
The module used to trigger the gate in the video has a 0V output (i.e. only closing the circuit to trigger the motor). The Sonoff Basic has an output of 120v / 220v and can unfortunately not be used in the same manner as on the video. There is however a workaround (involving cutting and soldering) to modify the Basic to output 0V, but in my mind (and for the price) the 1Ch inching switch is a better option.

I see that the installation manual for my gate motor recommends 0.2mm² thickness wire. As long as the wifi module is in the proximity of the gate motor, I would not be too worried about wiring thickness.

Can you help with a problem - my gate opens to about 500mm and then stops .. I set the inching and it opens all the way but then it seems to disable my autoclose. It seems to open only to the pedestrian opening .. How do I stop it from stopping there ? If I use the button on the board it opens and closes perfectly .. if I use google assistant it opens to 500mm or so and then restarts the open when inching kicks in .. then stays open ... how do i just get it to trigger normally?
@isphome1
@isphome1 3 жыл бұрын
Have you managed to find a solution yet? Some gate motors have 2 connection terminals (1 to trigger full opening and another to open pedestrian opening). If this is not the issue, then check the settings of your gate motor as well. Some gate motors have a mode to fully open the gate when triggered (inching), as well as a mode to open for as long as the remote button is pressed. Lastly, make sure that the wifi switch mode (button furthest from the centre of the board) is also set to inching... pressing this button once changes the mode from latching to inching. If none of the above works, then I am afraid that it will take some on-site troubleshooting.
@ginofab
@ginofab 3 жыл бұрын
@@isphome1 it seems to be working (may have been the latching function) ..but oddly, every now and again when I trigger it .. it opens to that position and then closes again. The Sonoff device only provides a trigger to the gate motor, thus the remote still works as well as from your phone. You can get a smart controller with RF built-in, but no need for this application as you have an existing remote.
