Ripper, first heard then played this song when OR staff at RAF Hospital Wegberg Germany , we had a skiffle group and played at Xmas concerts and various hospital dances and functions. Still have the sheet music I bought in 1958. Great memories. Moved from the UK in 68 to Tasmania, also spent some years in South Australia and went on extended 4WD expeditions into the great outback. Life does not get any better than visiting such wonderful outback pubs and the great people who live in these remote desert locations. I attended the recent Remembrance day service here , as some of my ancestors were called up for , or volunteered for , action , the service went appropriately , & afterwards , a couple of blokes came up to me & were talking ( I think they wondered just who the hell I was ! ) , one of them said he was going to the pub for a pint , the other one said " you,ll have a bloody job mate , the pub,s got no beer " ! .......This song & The Great Slim Dusty came straight back into my memory . I,m a brit , not all that proud of it after what,s been done to my country lately , & the ruling section of society,s actions & attitudes in general , I was honouring my own ancestors , & all the other people who were involved . Slim wrote & performed some great music , it,s a good job we can all still enjoy it , long live Slim Dusty .
