ive done it half dozen times guys. four times no worries, one time a bit average, last time coming out in september 20 plane shitting me daks. i made the mistake of straying from the formula that kept me , my crew and the boat safe on previous crossings. be prepared to wait it out if nessesary. have fun. dave .

My 1st 3 times over the WBB left me saying, "What the hell are they all going on about"? as it was even more calm than you had. Then the 4th time there were breaking waves everywhere! NEVER take it lightly! I've had a friend go in in the same conditions as your crossing & a freak wave crashed over the boat, broke some staunchions & davits - you never let your guard down!
@SlimandSophSailingNakama3 жыл бұрын
On a calm day it's mostly all good for sure. But we could definitely imagine if there was a bit more breeze and swell that it would definitely be a bit hairy! Wow, that would of been scary! Yeah your so right, never let your guard down or take any bar lightly. We learnt the hard way for this too with the bar at Brunswick Heads.

That’s like Haulover Inlet in Florida. It’s ok on calm days, but as soon as the waves kick up, just book an extra night. 😂 It’s CRAZY on an even *slightly* rough day.

What would be your choice, a Whale Gusher (or similar) or an electric bilge pump?
@SlimandSophSailingNakama4 жыл бұрын
Previously the boat had both however both are in need of repairs / replacement . Probably something we will work on once we finish installing and getting all the parts for our auto helm. I guess electric would be great for the fact there automated and the ease. But would feel safer knowing the whale would be less likely to have any issues or be there for us in the case of power failure. Jury's out for us . In a perfect world we would love the combination of both.

Why is it not a bouyed channel? Even with shifting sands . Our homeport has sandbars very narrow channel/estuary. Very restrictive entry/exit times
@SlimandSophSailingNakama4 жыл бұрын
No idea to honest. But the local Tin Can Bay Coast guard are super helpful and give you all the info you need to cross. Including recent chart and way points of the crossing. There is also lead markers on hook point and Inskip point to guide you through but the coast guard recommends to enter into you navigation system and strictly follow the way points they provide
@SlimandSophSailingNakama4 жыл бұрын
Wheres your home port? we used to have a similar situation in Brunswick heads . Was very hard for us to plan out trip from there.
@johnmclachlan10233 жыл бұрын
It's not a dredged channel. Sands are constantly shifting. The local coast guard monitor and advise best way points.
