As a fat guy that's always been a fan of the Yogscast, I gotta say I think Lewis was pretty fair last episode. It is unhealthy to be fat, and a large, large majority of overweight people can help it. It's not easy, which he never said it was, but it's possible to get to and maintain a healthy weight. He addressed that it's often part of poor parenting choices, as a fat kid really can't be entirely blamed. They really don't buy their own food, their parents do. He made a lot of fair points, and I don't know why he should want to apologize for it. Maybe if it didn't come across as he wanted, but that's really the only reason I can think of.
@BloodAndAshes8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for being sensible.
@JubJubtheWonderHippo8 жыл бұрын
***** That's really true. To actually become healthy, you need to do more than just get up and go for a jog, or eat a salad for lunch. You need to completely change your lifestyle to incorporate those sorts of things on a regular basis. And that's hard. If you do it all at once, it's a sudden shift and it hits you like a truck. Slowly work into it, and the lack of apparent progress discourages you.

Lewis, I don't think any of us daydream when we're little about how great it will be to become a single parent when we're older. Single parents are often left to deal with everything themselves because the other "parent" can't be bothered, or is unable to contribute to the family in any sort of meaningful way, monetarily or otherwise. In the "good old days" women weren't given as many options to support themselves financially and so were stuck in their marriages, no matter how crappy they were. In the "good old days" young women who magically found themselves pregnant were shipped off somewhere and their babies were given up for adoption. I am a single mom and would rather struggle along financially than have to be stuck in a horrible marriage or have to give up my kids to adoption. I don't think single parents think "anyone can raise kids," but they are actually making the effort to provide a household for their kids because they WANT to, not because they're forced to. At least I hope parents are parents because they want to be. Some people treat their kids very poorly, but that's another rant. thanks for listening and have a good day bye

The thing is that family units don't matter as long as it is genetically sound and follows the rules of eugenics that aren't biased.
@Asvadel8 жыл бұрын
+The High Architect Anyone with an understanding of sociology would disagree with you. Very little if any of an individual's personality is genetic. Almost all of it is developed by interaction with other people, and a complete family unit can be a great boon to that process.
@Asvadel8 жыл бұрын
***** Not really. There are a few things that have some evidence of being genetic, but the vast majority is a product of how you learn to react to other people. Cases of children isolated at a young age demonstrate little if any capacity for complex thought or meaningful action until they are socialized. We need other people to learn who we are. You can't really mean to argue that having or not having a stable nuclear family doesn't affect a person's development at all, can you?

Lewis, being old doesn't equal being conservative. I'm 23, an atheist, brought up in a progressive society by mostly liberal parents and amidst a liberal media, and yet I've been conservative on nearly all matters unrelated to religion for years now. People who are open-minded and at all invested into politics (which is sadly not too common) will know that both liberalism and conservatism have their time and place. The most accepted differentiation seems to be this: liberalism is all about introducing new and/or more open values, and therefore unknown risks. When a society thrives, it can afford to take these risks, so in those times go liberal. When there's large-scale trouble, however, you can't take extra controversy, so secure your bases with conservatism until the storm has passed. This is why conservatives have been rising into power across Europe for the past year.

They use mice because they are a decent mammalian analog. They are easy to keep/feed and have short generation times. We also have their whole genome sequenced. This is what makes something a good candidate for lab experiments. Its why flatworms, drosophila, arabidopsis etc are so frequently used as model organisms.

Dear mister Lewis Brindley and mister Chris 'sips' Lovasz, If you are still reading youtube comments please stop at once. It is a waste of your time and energy. If you have ignored this advice, then I was wondering if the two of you enjoyed filming 'board game night' and plan to do additional episodes. You should check out the game "Tales of the Arabian Nights", it's a story telling game for 1-6 players that is kind of like a multi player version of the fighting fantasy books you once played on stream but set in the Arabian folk tales such as Sindbad the Sailor and Aladdin. Thank you for the hours of inane chatter through your yogpods and team double dragon, I thoroughly enjoy them.

Still confused? Here's a lovely Wallace Stevens poem for you. How to Live. What to do Last evening the moon rose above this rock Impure upon a world unpurged. The man and his companion stopped To rest before the heroic height. Coldly the wind fell upon them In many majesties of sound: They that had left the flame-freaked sun To seek a sun of fuller fire. Instead there was this tufted rock Massively rising high and bare Beyond all trees, the ridges thrown Like giant arms among the clouds. There was neither voice nor crested image, No chorister, nor priest. There was Only the great height of the rock And the two of them standing still to rest. There was the cold wind and the sound It made, away from the muck of the land That they had left, heroic sound Joyous and jubilant and sure.

+Editorial Additionally, they use mice in labs for testing because the brain of a mouse is one of the most similar to our own in that ways that it reacts to chemicals and stimuli.
