mark, mock up, sew and test phase 1, The Wraptor (thanks John Hicks @bwhana on saddlehunter.com). Basically the Anderson Sling, the base for all sling style saddles.
Video 3 will cover the additions to model the Recon, ESS and ultimately a Latitude-ish finished DIY saddle!

In part 1 you said you would discuss how to use our own measurements to make a better fitting saddle in part 2. I watched part 2 and 3 and must have missed it. How wide do you make yours and or what parts of your body are you using for overall width, Hip bone to hip bone, or that plus 3,4,5" etc?

Finished my build last week and had my first sit yesterday. I did a wraptor style then added a belt and leg straps. Was going to do the mesh but the more I thought about it the less i thought it would give me any real benefit. I’m a smaller guy, 30” waist so I did my main loops 74” with all other dimensions being the same as yours. My bridge is tubular webbing secured with a double fisherman’s and I’ll change that to an adjustable amsteel when my prusik loop comes in. So far the only think on mine that I’d change is id use the same d-rings you used. For mine I used parachute d-rings and they are just a bit smaller and bunch the webbing up a little when sitting. Shouldn’t hurt the integrity at all but my ocd notices it. I sat almost 7 hours yesterday at 25’ (after bouncing around and almost trying to break it at ground level) thorough inspection revealed no slipping stitches and everything remaining tight after some pretty rough abuse. By far one of the most comfortable saddles I’ve put my butt in. I was using a trophyline this year but unless it’s perfectly positioned the hip pinch was pretty bad and I couldn’t ever find a way to sit comfortably in the trophyline, only lean. This saddle is literally comfortable in any way I could find a way to hang yesterday. Thanks again for making this instructional. Good stuff

Awesome! If you get a chance, share some pics! Ya, the webbing is good for the bigger boys (like me) to keep stuff in place. Ive been using mine the full season. Love the way is rides high when walking in.

Nice work, I have built 2 slings myself and if you watch Johns video on the ESS it is one continuas loop of webbing not two seperate loops tthats why it is so comfy and how it is self adjusting but you do some great work man .

@Charles That is a very interesting point because I was wondering myself if this could be done with only one loop (passed twice). Can you please link to the video that you mention?

Jerry, Thanks for the videos. I ended up making one. After I made the two panel working part of the saddle I ended up putting a piece of mesh from the top to the bottom and about 18" across. I stitched it to each of the 4 seat belt webbing pieces and left about 8" in between the two panels. So I can stretch them apart quite a bit or still run them almost touching. This made dealing with the two individual panels way easier. Now I am looking at maybe making one more like the Phantom from Tethrd. Any recommendations on the kind of mesh to buy for that? Since it wont have as many load bearing pieces of webbing on it. Thanks again.

Hey Thomas! Glad you enjoy the videos. Any heavy duty polyester mesh is good (we like TP21 from APEX Mills), but the key is how to orientate the mesh. Most of the mesh materials have a directional stretch. You want the stretch to move vertically ( top to bottom) along the saddle. If you orientate it horizontally, it greatly reduces the comfort of the saddle.

@@jerrygrose468 that’s great to know. Thank you. I’ll work on getting some. I had ordered some mil spec nylon mesh that just showed up today but it’s stiff and loud.

So I got an old singer 328 all metal pretty tough but had issues with tension . Got it straight and have made 3 just practicing learning the machine. Do you know the breaking strength of coats and clark upholsterers thread its the only thing I found close by its pretty strong also read tera 40 is good too. I had an old Singer that was used for Parachutes back in the day but sold it. It had a big table and huge motor under the table that was really fast

Nice video. I am considering building one of these for my kids. They are only 7 and 5 and skinny as rails. If I use 2 in webbing do you think I could just use one pannel for their skinny butts. Or should I use 1 in webbing and make 2 still. Any other suggestions. Also this is only for the bavkyard so they can pratice with me under supervision.

I would stick with the 2 inch webbing, one panel, but make a back band for each, just to make sure they feel secure. Thats what im putting together for my 5yo Grandson.

How did you take measurements for this saddle build?
@jerrygrose468
@jerrygrose468 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Allen. If you watch the below linked video, at about the 16 second mark I discuss saddle measurements. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX3OaYx4fMatodE Measure the same way, but add 8 inches to get the length of a sling loop. So, if you get 28, go with a 36 inch loop. Thays what works for me.

@@jerrygrose468 Good deal! I really like this hybrid of so many designs. Should be a great saddle for someone who sometimes likes to sit and sometimes leans. Waiting on some materials to come in and I am going to build one with a few different tweaks. Thanks for taking the time to make these vids!

hey jerry, any reason you could think that one panel feels loose the other is good? this happens even if i flip it over and make the top the bottom and vice versa. maybe my booty is just too thick?
@jerrygrose468
@jerrygrose468 3 жыл бұрын
Not uncommon at all! Some folks find that taking up an inch or two on each side of the top panel (right beside the vertical straps) takes out the slack.

Somehow when I sit in this saddle the top panel is loose and just falls down? Was my top panel supposed to be shorter? Or is it cause I have a small frame?
@jerrygrose468
@jerrygrose468 3 жыл бұрын
Could very well be. I have a lot of junk in the trunk. You can easily take up an inch on either/both sides of the top panel to adjust. Just fold over webbing beside the vertical straps on the top panel and run a bar tack down the middle. Ive done it before and will send you a pic.

@@dustywinrich5068 Im using 1inch tubular webbing with an Astrialpine buckle. So, its adjustable with just a pull of the hand, and I can split it if im wearing it under coveralls (bridge comes out of side slots on the coveralls). Buckle is 18kN rated.
