I would love to see an option to condense the size for transport/use with half the ball capacity (ie just big enough to accommodate one case of 72 balls when ball well compartment is zipped down to the smaller size... this would also make it more easily transportable and stored in small spaces, and accommodate carrying it in backpack mode of covering uneven terrain or snow getting it to the court. Also, as a beginner, I’d love the option to narrow the osolatation pattern
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 3 жыл бұрын
The oscillator is not very good in my opinion. I wish there was a way to tie the oscillation to the shot pattern to just create a side to side option. The size doesn't bother me too much, as I put alot of gear (cones, tripods, etc) in the bag compartments. The wheels are big enough to traverse most terrain even deep grass or some gravel. I sometimes use the straps on the front to help carry the bag.

I still use my Slinger Bag quite often. I have not had many issues. I believe the bags that are out not have been slightly designed different than the model that I have, but I'm not totally sure of what those differences are. Sometimes the balls get stuck in the hopper but it's not that big of a deal. I had to replace the battery in the remote but it was relatively easy to replace. I do not use the oscillator very much, as I do not like how it is not controllable, but rather just turns the unit independently of the feeding speed. I typically set the machine up to work on one shot or do a drill in which incorporates movement to achieve getting different shots in. Check out my video in which I show you some different settings and drills! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ6wpIRuhpV9orM Thanks for the question!

I was shopping for tennis-ball machines all summer, so I'm familiar with their options & prices. Negatives: I'm not a big fan of the oscillator. It requires a little more work and time to implement, and it has no oscillating options. (Random directions, height, etc.) BUT, other than that, I'm fairly impressed. Pricing is VERY reasonable for what you are getting. A high-quality machine, which was clearly engineered/designed with two things in mind: Convenience and longevity.
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
I would agree with you on that! As I said in my review, are there machines with more options? Yes. BUT for the ease of use, and the convenience of transportation, mixed with the price point, it is very good ball machine. The charger in the pocket is a life saver for me sometimes, esp when I am filming.

Hi Hammer It Tennis. A couple of questions when you have time. Have you hit the machine and it turns off? Balls get stuck frequently or problems alike? and second (I cheated placing several questions in the first :-) ) and how much time it took to arrive when you order it?
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve only hit the machine maybe one or two times accidentally straight on. Neither time did the machine stop. The controls are on the front, but there are two metal bars that protect the control panel. Maybe if you hit a ball up inside the machine it might as a safety, but I haven’t hit any balls inside the machine. As far as the feeder goes, I have had a few times that a ball in the hopper gets stuck. The machine will beep and turn off so it doesn’t burn up the feeder tray motor. I’ve only have this happen a few times. It will not turn back on until the ball is cleared. When I use the Wilson trinity balls this doesn’t happen much, but some other brands of pressureless balls are smaller in size so they tended to get stuck a few times more. I do not know how long the average consumer shipment takes, as I did not order mine, but rather my machine was sent directly to me as part of this collaboration. Hope that helps!

Would you recommend using a mixture of pressurised and pressureless tennis balls. I am purchasing the Wilson trinity balls to use with the slinger but I also have some used Wilson US open balls (maybe 30 or 40 balls) that I was going to use aswel. Just wondering if the used Wilson US open balls are ok to use on the machine? They have been used around 4 to 5 times.
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
I've tried a variety of balls in mine. I was hoping to get a video out on them. The Wilson trinity balls have so far seemed to be the best ball to use with the Slinger. They deliver the most consistent flight and shot dispersion out of the Slinger. The only knock I have against the trinity ball is the feel of the ball itself. It is a hard pressureless ball. However, I am finding, that is the reason though it is consistent out of the machine. You can use regular pressurized balls if you want, but as we know they will lose pressure and then the flight and dispersion out of the Slinger will change. So if you want to keep putting in new balls all the time it will be fine. Or if you are ok with the shots coming out of the machine being a little shorter/deeper each shot it's fine too.

Hi Hammer It Tennis.... Thank you for the review. The website says that you can use 140 balls with the machine. Some readings on the internet says to place only 72 in the compartment. Some other say that placing about 90 make the machine get stuck. Question 1: Is there a difference between balls "transported" versus balls "that can be thrown"? What is the maximum in both cases? Question 2: Do you store the balls inside the machine at all times (no matter the number)?
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
I received a case of 72 Wilson Triniti balls with the Slinger. I filled up the Slinger and I have had very little issues with them getting stuck. I also was testing out other brands of pressureless balls and put them in the machine all at the same time which gave me around another 40 balls, so around 112 or so. Again even with the different brands (which are not all the same size interestingly) my machine did not really have any issues. Every now and then you may get one to hold up going into the feeder or one gets stuck and the machine will turn off automatically. However, it is not really an issue. My machine seems to do better with the more balls in it as a matter of fact. I would think that you could get more balls in the feeder when you are using the machine, because the feeder hopper unzips and sorta expands and you could pile a few more balls in when it is open vs having to zip it up in transportation. But two cases of the Triniti balls would fit. And yes, I keep the balls in the machine all of the time. This is one of the huge reasons I love my Slinger! Transportation to use, to storage in the garage, I do not need another basket or to keep balls in multiple hoppers. Hope that helps! Thanks for the questions and the view! Let me know if you have any other questions!

@@HammerItTennis I wish to add that I do have a Spinshot Player since May 2020 (Slinger Bag was not in the horizon or I did not recall seen the Slinger Bag). Obviously the Spinshot is more complete BUT (and it is a big BUT) taking the machine 1-2 times to the court also needed several trips as you need the Tourna Tenn Tube Tennis Ball Pickup or a Kollectaball, and the Gamma or the Hoparazzi. Then the racket, cell phone to control the machine... only to tell you the story I already feel exhausted. :) So I decided to order the Slinger Bag so I can train daily versus 1-2 times. Rest of the days I go only to practice about 140-210 services. I was using 120 balls in the Spinshot but planning to reduce the balls to 100. I guess balls will add weight to the Slinger Bag. Thanks again ..!!
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
I absolutely understand about transporting your machine to and from the courts. Even with the balls and maybe your racquet (but I still used my normal racquet bag) the unit is not unmanageable because of the way the handstraps are on the machine. I lift the machine enough to get the wheels in the back of my suv and then just slide the machine into the back. I have put my machine in the trunk of a car before, but it was a little tricky. I think that you will be happy with the Slinger vs a larger machine. You may be sacrificing on-court program features, but what good are those features, if you are not using the machine because it is such a hassle?

@@HammerItTennis Hm, it may be because I don't have a FB, but I can't see the images. I think I got your point though, sounds like it's easy to do. @@KimchiOishi1 The pictures are in the comments of that post on this review. I wish that I could post pictures in youtube comments. It doesn't seem too difficult, although I did not try to take the batteries out. It isn't super accessible, but still looks doable. Thanks for the great in-depth review about the machine, you've earned a new subscriber! I just wanted your thoughts, I currently have an older ball machine that still works great, it oscillates (no remote) and has options for top-spin and back-spin (I don't notice much of a difference between the two though). The one big factor for me that limits my use of the machine is that it requires a power cord and there are only one set of courts near me that have access to a power outlet.I can convert the machine to battery powered for a cost between $250-$350. Would you say that this machine is worth it if you were in my position?

@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
1000000000000000000000000000000% Yes! The battery life on mine has never been an issue. The only two negative points that I can come up with so far are, 1- I wish you could adjust the speed of the oscillator (it just is a set speed side to side) and 2- the size of the bag can make getting it in a trunk of a car a little more difficult. It will fit in my car trunk on its side. But the ability to keep the balls in the bag, have room for other accessories and be able to easily wheel the whole unit around more than make up for those two issues. Especially for the overall price of the unit and accessories included.

Hi, I was looking at the tennis tutor pro light model ($830) vs the slinger bag ($700) and have been leaning towards picking up the pro light. The thing I am most worried about is what looks like extreme topspin on the Slinger bag from video's I've watched. Obviously it has only 1 wheel, so that's bound to happen. I have 2 boys (9 and 7) that are just starting beginning tennis and I wanted something that could throw some flat balls at them. There was an argument when the price was originally $550 that cost outweighed the downside of the single wheel heavy topspin, but now with slinger upping the price I don't know. I know you have used Tennis Tutor in the past, which would you go with in my situation?
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 2 жыл бұрын
The Slinger is soo easy to transport and move around in the court. The balls being in the bag make storage and transportation the easiest of any machine I’ve used. If that isn’t a big deal to you, I’d probably go with the Tudor because of what you are describing with the topspin. However, when you slow the speed down of the feed, the topspin does slow down proportionately as well. And I do like the USB charger for my phone or camera and the single flywheel doesn’t trash the balls as quick. BUT, a flatter ball is easier for beginners. So overall if the Slinger features aren’t as big of a deal to you I’d go slight advantage to the tennis Tudor in that situation.

What would you recommend as the best value for buying balls in bulk (45 - 72) to practice with the Slinger bag? Amazon and Costco have a pretty good deal on the Penn championship do you know of any other similar or better deals. Do you also just leave the balls in the Slinger Bag or put them in something else to retain some bounce in the balls you train with? Thx in advance!

I’d strongly recommend the Wilson Triniti. I was working on a video of different pressureless balls for the Slinger but I can just go ahead and tell you the Wilson Triniti ball is a superior pressureless ball of what I’ve tried so far (Penn, Gamma, Athletic Works). Pressured (normal) balls are the best, but just for a short time. They will loose pressure inconsistently and then performance (how the ball shoots out of the machine) becomes ill-regular. The Wilson balls is very consistent. My only knock is they are a little hard feeling. I leave the balls in the Slinger. There are very few storage options that could pressurize a large quantity of balls, so even if you used pressurized balls I’d just leave them in the Slinger for easy storage.

Max power is 1/2 of a Lobster Elite. If you watch enough videos you notice that the Slinger will never get from the baseline to outside the serving box without cranking it to max speed, which then imparts so much spin on the ball that 80% of players can't control that insane topspin. You should do a video on how far the Slinger can shoot the ball over the net without it going over at 7 feet in height. I have so far not seen that. Can the Slinger go over the net only 3 feet of height and land an OK distance into the opposite side of the court ? P.S. Slinger now has brought out Version 2. Some improvements on it, but nothing can be done for the topspin as it only use one wheel to spit out balls vs the Lobster which uses 2 balls. That said, the Lobsters are 3x the price.

I would completely agree with everything you mention in this comment. Pros: all one unit including the balls. Super easy transport and storage. Price point is great. Features at this price point, remote, usb charging port, wheels, decent battery life. Cons: the amount of topspin is too much for alot of players when the speed of the wheels is increased. The oscillator is terrible. I never use it. Something that could feed to set locations is what I think we’re looking for. Overall: I’ve used lots of ball machines, some costing many thousands of dollars. For the average to tournament player the Slinger is a solid choice if you’re looking for an easily transported machine that will last you a hour or two on the court. If you’re looking for a high speed feeder and a machine that you can run a program drill this is not the machine for you.

Good morning Daniel ! 🙂 Ah that's awesome to hear from you ! I am also in full agreement with what you said, and on price-point, yuppers, you cannot beat the Slinger, Lobster just can't even compete at this price point. I would love love love to see you do a 5 min video showing how low you can get your Slinger to toss balls over the net from the baseline, and see how much "speed" you need to get that ball pretty far back on the other side of the court. The feeder for me is secondary, I would never use it at full speed... I saw another video where the instructor had it on full speed ( the feed ) and the next ball was coming as he was finishing his previous shot, - this maybe good for volleys.... but on another video the guy doing the demo with the Slinger said it was terrible with volleys because of the excessive topspin. Yeah you can't wine I guess. Would love to see that distance test though, - and keeping that ball lower over the net - every video I've seen for the Slinger always had this moonball effect.... so high over the net... just want to see how it works going only a few feet over the net so it simulates more true life tennis if you know what I mean. Can I use pressurized balls in the slinger or do you have to use pressureless?
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын

I've used the Tennis Tudor a little, but not the Wilson or Lobster battery machines. BUT i do know that those machines do not allow you to store the balls and other equipment within the unit. The Slinger's oscillator is separate from the machine though, so you have to carry that extra and it's timing is not coordinated with the launching of the balls. The price point of the Slinger is much lower than most other battery machines. It also seems that the battery time is a little better for the Slinger.

I have not used the machine on clay, but I don't really see how it would be a big issue. As long as you are not putting balls in the hopper that have like chunks of clay stuck on them, I think you'd be fine. The components and are all inside the bag so that would keep the dust and clay away to a degree. I'd think the biggest issue would probably be more dust from the clay getting in the wheels of the bag when you drag it across the court.

A case of 72 Wilson Triniti balls is $105 off Wilson.com (I’d highly recommend using these balls) so if you get the grand slam player (US pricing) that leaves another $110 left for the oscillator, the pickup tube and camera holder. To be honest, I usually use my machine without the oscillator. I wish you could adjust the oscillator speed or if it would be able to do just a forehand / backhand type setting. The collapsible ball tube is not perfect, but I find to be pretty useful AND it completely stores within the bag. I’d be willing to pay $25-40 if it was an accessory. The phone holder is cool if you are planning to film your work out. It holds your phone well to a fence or a pole if you hoist your phone above the court. I’d say I’d pay around $10-20 for that type of thing. So the fact that they aren’t selling the items separately or after you order (as far as I know) I’d get the oscillator seeing if you change your mind you’d be forced to find someone selling just that. So I’d say if you can get the balls and accessories I would, cause you’ll need balls anyway and then the difference in price isn’t as much.

Do you have any experience using the machine with slightly damp balls? I play on an outdoor court ( in Ireland) and would mainly practice early morning which would result in some dew still being present on the court. (Especially this time of the year). The balls wouldn’t be saturated, but would gather some dampness because of the dew. Would this affect the performance of the machine?
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
I have not used any damp balls in my machine, but I have seen wet balls in similar machines in the past. Typically since they are wet, the ball tends to land shorter. I would recommend though just bouncing any balls on the court a time or two with your racquet and the water should come out.

@@6thwatergateplumber you adjust the shot with height and speed of the ball. The topspin is constant and is dependent on how fast the one flywheel is spinning. Without any balls the Slinger (according to my scales) weighs around 34 pounds. With 100 balls I found it to be around 48 pounds. Storage of the balls within the bag itself, is one of the key differences compared to other ball machines. I like this feature, but it does make the unit heavier than other machines. As far as carrying it up stairs, the wheels on the back are rather large and stick out behind the unit like a suitcase. There is also a skid plate above the wheels. That’s a loaded question. I think that it would be fine on clay. The topspin will kick a little bit more, but I think it would be fine. The bottom of the oscillator has 6 thick rubber feet that disperse the weight pretty evenly it seems. I don't think that it would dig into a properly packed clay court. Without the oscillator, it sits on the two back wheels and a bar that runs across the front. The wheels are big enough that they roll very well and easily, but when it is sitting down it stays in place.

Good question. 1st I don't think that very much clay dust would get in the machine. It is pretty well self contained within the bag. 2nd I don't see how it would be much different than the tennis ball fuzz that gets everywhere anyway that doesn't seem to effect the machine at all. There shouldn't be much clay kicked up around the machine anyway as there's nothing moving on the court to create much dust. While you are wheeling it on and off, the wheels are bigger than like a caster wheel on most match/playmate machines. The wheels would not pick up or track much clay either.

Good ball machine on budget. But only topspin and no underspin or flat settings is a deal breaker for many people buying a ball machine. Also it seems you have to connect and discount a lot of things just to get it going.
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
G Banger the only topspin is def the biggest drawback. The amount of topspin is probably the second con as it is quite heavy. However, I would disagree on your statement that you need to connect and discount (I’m assuming you meant disconnect) as you really just need to turn it on and then start it with the remote. The only thing you need to connect is the oscillator, but that takes not even 30 sec as you set it on top and the cord just magnetically clips on. I like that the balls are already inside the bag noting you really need to do for them to be ready to go.
@gbanger3557
@gbanger3557 4 жыл бұрын
Hammer It Tennis Sorry yes meant disconnect. 30 seconds is still time to setup and pack down compared to just wheeling away like on most other ball machines. Still for the price this ball machine does enough for people on a budget.
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the one big pro though that I don't know of any other machines that can do this, is store the balls internally. So instead of having to empty the hopper out and flip it back over and snap it on, you are already to roll, just zip the ball compartment up. I love that feature as I do not have to have a big ball hopper or multiple hoppers to hold the balls in transport. Also when I get home I have everything all in one place.

That's almost an understatement, heavier and quicker. Actually the balls delivered by this machine are almost unplayable for beginners or intermediates. Because of the construction and configuration of this machine, only having one vertical spinning wheel, the initial delivery of the ball from said wheel is with Underspin/Backspin, but once the ball bounces it is converted/reversed into HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY TOPSPIN. This is the flaw of this machine. The RPM's look like something Rafael Nadal (3k+) would produce. Too fast and very spinning. 😆🤦

@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't looked into Lobster ball machines too much but I looked them up on a larger tennis retailer here in the US and the cheapest model was $949. However, that doesn't include the remote which is another $169 (so $1,118 total). The comparable Slinger is $675 (random oscillator and remote). Another thing to consider is that also does not include a cover. You might ask why I would mention that, but the bag makes the entire machine completely enclosed, so 1. it acts like a cover, and 2. more importantly, after you zip it up, you don't get tennis ball fuzz all over your car. The bag keeps everything inside so it is clean in your car. Another plus is that you can store the balls in the bag and still transport it. Now at home I can just keep the balls for the machine in the machine. This is a big space saver. Another plus is the USB charger that is built in. I can charge my phone, and put it securely inside one of the pockets and not worry about it getting hit by a ball while I hit. And finally, the other big advantage I see is that you can store cones, drinks, the ball tubes, extra racquets, other gear inside the bag, and transport and store it at your house. Does the Lobster have any storage capabilities? Now as far as the speed, with the topspin on the ball it is more than enough to simulate hard shots of advanced players. The lack of an underspin option or the ability to lessen the topspin is somewhat frustrating. However, again, for about half the price of the comparable Lobster model in reality (not just $150 more) to me I think the pros outweigh the cons.

Are you looking at the packages that include the Triniti Balls? In the US you can get just the bag, oscillator, remote and ball tube without getting any balls that is $675. $765 includes 72 balls and $850 gets you everything and 144 balls. If the price point changed much higher then that would be a major consideration.

Notice my last post here was 4 months ago? after lots of hassle they finally gave me a replacement bag. Now the battery won't hold charge for more than 40 minutes. My old bag which I had for about a year never had this problem so its not how I take care of the machine. I keep it indoors at all times. The battery is defective and they won't admit it. They want me to buy another battery when a bag is less than 4 months old. To add insult to injury, the battery is sold out and its on back order. No wonder. you sell bags with defective batteries people will be forced to buy more batteries. If their ad is true about the battery will hold charge for 3.5 hours why would anyone need more batteries? This company is just plain awful.
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 2 жыл бұрын
I am not affilated with Slinger in any manner, they just were nice enough to give me a unit for this review. However, I have been hearing about some battery issues. I actually have two batteries and one would not hold it's charge as well as the other. The one lasts 3-4 hours easy and keeps its charge in storage. The other lasts at least an hour on court but will not hold a charge in storage. The instructal manual says to initially charge the batteries overnight before the first use, and I wonder if there is something in the inital use/charge process that may determine if the unit will work better than others. I don't know, but you'd think they could help you out. My biggest advice to anyone if you get a replacement bag is to use that new bag first OR if your old battery is a good battery switch them out before sending the old unit back.
@jcancook1
@jcancook1 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your insight. The slinger was working fine for 3 months then all of a sudden it just stop holding charge. it was lasting over 2 hours with no problem then all of a sudden It would just die after 40 minutes. I tried charging it out of the unit like they suggested and nothing worked. Its disheartening to know you can get a brand new machine and the battery stop holding charge after just 4 month. Can you imagine if you bought an iPhone and the battery dies in 4 months and they want you to buy a new battery?
@HammerItTennis
@HammerItTennis 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. One of the big advantages that the Silinger has, is its price point. But if you have to pay out of pocket for a new battery, then it starts to lose much of its advantage. I also still wish that it was able to just do a simple two spot oscillation.

I can hardly see this. The shooting of the balls is so bad of a Slingerbag, just because there is only 1 shooting wheel. Result: very low speed balls (machine should stand even before the net of the player side) and ONLY topspin. There couldnt be 1 tennis trainer say this is a good machine for tennis because for high level players the speed is by far too low and for beginners the spin is not good for learning tennis. So, this is really a bad ball machine. But sure, the concept of a ball bag and all features like charging phone, ball bag etc is good and interesting for other ball machine factories to think of. But this is not a ball machine but a ball bag with some "doggy throwing machine" inside.
