@hyperbomb023 жыл бұрын
I actually practice with a bat. For my baseball players (and really anyone) out there, this is essentially a baseball swing. What's counter intuitive is if you are right handed, you are now swinging like a lefty. In a proper baseball swing you step in and rotate and then drive with your rear arm through the ball. Your lead arm lags in the same way but it's your rear arm that is doing the majority of the work. If you lead with your lead arm, we actually have a term called opening the gate where the fat part of the bat gets out of the pocket too early and takes a lot of bat speed out of the contact. To me it works exactly the same as being too tight with your throwing arm on a disc golf throw. Obviously it's not perfect, but what helps is the practice with a bat because you can just relax your throwing arm and learn to let the rear arm do all the work of creating rotation and arm speed.

@mckenzieballou38523 жыл бұрын
Regarding better wording for the “pull”, this sounds fairly analogous to the way a trebuchet works. In this case your left arm (in rh backhand) is the counter weight…but it’s more dynamic than that because your moving your arm to add force as well and not simply relying on its weight…it’s more like counterforce. Since that sounds bad ass to me, that’s what I’m going to call it. Also, I’ve watched like a thousand backhand videos. Others have mentioned what to do with the off-arm, but none have explained it like this. I mean it never seemed super important…i thought I just needed to keep my left arm from slowing my rotation down. You’re telling me how to use it to speed it up. I can’t wait to try this. I’ve been stuck at 400 for a year now.

I end up with something similar to you in terms of position. I also over-exagerate the left elbow as I do the reach back and I felt the same thing you mention about it giving me a better reach back. The extra distance just came then over time and practice getting the feel for the timing of it all together.

I havnt made the lower body video yet. I’m working on it in the coming days. Stay tuned because it’s very important. I certainly use back foot and leg to power my hip turn. I have to make sure I know how I’m going to explain it first. I’ll be doing field work today and only focusing on what my legs are doing to power the hips. Yep I actually got it. Hyzerflipped my Pure about 200 feet straight completely standstill with what felt like only my arms/upper body. The feeling to me is that the right shoulder wants to go back, but the left shoulder (controlled by the left arm) starts going forward. Then the arm stretches, comes back and whips through. Like a wave from left hand to right hand. Looks kinda like I'm trying to dance when I'm trying to find the feeling. I'm not sure how my elbow doesn't collapse, maybe my old pulling style still has some muscle memory getting my elbow to not drop. Gotta work on timing it with the brace/stopping my body. But double move all the way. Question: Do you use the whip even for upshots? I still feel more under control when i do more of a pull into the pocket and out. But maybe it's just because I'm more used to it. Literally just cracked the whip today for the first time!

just watched some dglo coverage and all the top pro distance guys slingshot their upshots too. Watching Round 2 Front 9 Gatekeeper medias coverage at 13:55 into the video there is 3 in a row, all standstills. Sir, great content once again! From my own experiment (only implementing loose wrist for now just because I'm simple and cannot execute many changes simultaneously), the tricky part seems to be the timing of the left arm along with "the reach back". And further it seems, that without correct timing of the setup, it is just pointless what the left arm is doing. Yesterday I looked at Seppo Paju (look him up, throws a putter stand still accurate in the woods with no effort 300ft) and I assume that getting the left arm and timing correct, better start slowly from stand still. Seppo has a nice video, where he throws stand stills and doing a "helicopter arm" -thingy (left arm out wide and then tucked into left leg for a split second where the boom happens). Personally, I think this could be a good place to start learning, at least if been throwing "the wrong way" for 2 years as I have done.. :-| And also, perhaps the placement and the motion of the left arm will find its own place if not forcing it into a certain sequence. I mean, the goal is not to have the left arm to move in a particular way but to generate force downwards that should triggers some muscles, that I likely lack, which should finally generate the rubber band sling shot sending plastic into the bushes at the end of the football field. Anyways, this is gold, please keep them videos coming! edit: and I think the biggest muscle is in you a$$, which also makes sense since it has to move your a... around all the time, hmm edit2: is it a pull with the left arm or is it more of a push/stretch/swing motion..?
@slingshotdiscgolf18973 жыл бұрын
I love your thinking. 100% need to learn this from a standstill for sure. I’ll check out Seppo.you may into something with the left arm. I have a lot going on this week but hopefully I’ll get a video up by next weekend that will have some experimental drills/exercises. Let me know if you come up with anymore ideas.

@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 Had to try out to mimic Seppo Paju's stand-still-helicopter-left-arm but I'm doing something wrong, need to video tape it I guess. I however think, that your noodle arm/wrist is more important to apply than the left arm push/swing after all. I also think I found out a super simple drill from stand still to get the feel of the "wristsplash". On approach shots, Paul also uses the wrist very much after looking through some videos I've favorited. I'll have to take out the drone to get an overhead shot for You to comment on?

@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 Had to create a short montage of Seppo Paju throwing, including a hole in one. From where does he generate the "power"? Is it from his glutes, back, forearm and wrist pop, can you tell? Video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHOlfoWJnKmceZo

It’s more of a swing that has an up swing transferring the wave through the Back and it ends with a down swing. Paul Mcbeth has the most exaggerated swing that I’ve seen. It’s unreal. I was considering doing a Paul Mcbeth breakdown real fast and upload it just to show his swing and how I think he’s doing it. In your opinion, would that be something you’d be interested in (or the other subscribers)? Just breakdowns of one pro at a time sort of thing. Just as an added series to the channel.

@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 That I would absolutely love! I've been looking over and over at the pro's but I lack the talent of spotting the do's and don't (only when someone like you break it down, it is more or less obvious but can not figure it out myself). If I may request some of my personal favorites: - Ben Callaway (one of the cleanest throwers, perhaps the most perfect form I can think of IMHO) - Albert Tamm (clean bomber, looks so easy) - Thomas Gilbert (clean bomber, no introduction needed..) - Oskari Vikström / Seppo Paju (both can bomb, also clean and accurate) - Or any of the young guns Väinö Mäkelä / Niklas Anttila / Niko Rättyä (super clean and accurate) Obviously also Paul and Eagle's form break down would be interesting but they both have IMO such unique forms, that I would not personally mimic any of them (e.g Ealge wide stance = not for everybody, Paul's throwing discs since forever and can not be compared at any level with us deadly creatures). A break down of Eagles or/and Simons putting style would also be appreciated. Also any input on nose angles of much interest!

The way it looks on the big throws, there is the start of a motion, the long arm drag and a split-second moment where everything halts, the elbow extends (~10 o'clock position) and then the momentum starts again and the body rotates to finish. I feel like something has to cause the elbow to extend. If I let it extend naturally, it'll only extend when I reach my rotational flexibility (low) and that's around straight at the target. That results in a shot waaaaay off to the right. So there is something in the timing which causes the elbow to extend early (since I know the best throwers are much more flexible than I am and not reaching any sort of rotational limit). It could be when you rotate the hips the front leg on some folks straightens and the hip rotation stops (as your hips reach full rotation to the front). On me, that leaves my arm pointing at about that 10 o'clock position. That could cause the disc to eject and then my body and arm extension would cause the follow-through to continue. Love the discussion and seeing you think through some of this stuff :)

Hi, in full power drives do you keep your arm loose all the way to the releasepoint or do you start using it after the disc hits the powerpocket? Thanks for your videos! Liked and subscribed for sure!

New vid coming soon where I address the right arm. A lot of people wondering how to grip firm. I’m listening to the comments and will address the major concerns and questions. I’m new at this and there’s a lot more I havnt explained. KZbin is a lot of work lol. Just keep I. Mind you can activate from hand muscles while keeping the wrist/arm loose. Loose body weight actually gives you more body control (once you get used to it).

How does the timing lineup for the left arm pull vs the hips rotating?
@slingshotdiscgolf18973 жыл бұрын
It sort of happens all at once. That’s where the legs come in. I’m working on my lower body/hips video right now. The major topic I’ve yet to cover. I will try to answer that question in that video. I just have to dive deeper into the timing through video analysis before I give the information. Hopefully in a few days.

So the question of the should pull vs push, I think it should be referred to as driving your shoulder. The left shoulder is tied to the left hip, so yes you are pulling the left should through, but it’s more of an explosion created by the hip and should working together. This creates a driving type of feel, the left shoulder is driving the right shoulder open and allowing the disc to come forward.

It's like a pitcher reaching back for more velocity it's the same with slinging a disc. But of course with great power can also diminish accuracy.
