Slip Strike Indicator

The Blog: www.flyfishfood...: A slip strike indicator allows you to set and easily change the depth at which you fish your flies from your indicator. It also allows for a quick-release "slip" wherein the indicator will slide free and allow you to reel in as much line as you need to without getting stopped by the indicator at your rod tip. Great for stillwater or deeper nymphing as well as just regular nymphing. Nicknamed the "Bongo" method of fishing.

These are effective indicators. Mistake one is putting the peg on the "fly line" side of the leader as shown here, the best placement is on the "fly side" as when the leader unrolls during the cast there's less chance for tangle. Second, a small swivel placed below the butt section before the tippet, not only ads a small amount of weight and helps the configure sink faster, it stops the loss ratio of the indicator during hard break-offs. So the indicator does not stop you from reeling a fish in - a static indicator will hit the top top of your rod. A good friend of mine just lost a fish like this using an immoveable strike indiator!
