The Honda surprised me in how well it did. No surprise re the excellent performance from the Subaru. The Nissan did well as was quite graceful and the least dramatic.

Did the Subaru transmission lock into position 1 when only one rear wheel was on the ground? This is recommended in the user manual for difficult conditions.

No, we didn't try that. But we did try that when both rear wheels were on the ground and there was no locking effect.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Subaru recommends for this Forester in difficult conditions to turn off the ESP and force it into first gear. But I still trust your practice tests. You are doing very useful work. Thanks!

@@АндрейСуслов-х2й It did work on Forester SG with VTD, 1st gear was locking the center diff. Here we have ACT-4 and there was no difference between 1st and D. Thank you!

На Subaru D стоял или 1 передача? Там распределение по разному идет. На 1 передаче почти 50/50 на D 90/10.

D. It's not 90/10 but variable, up to 50/50.

In D mode it 90/10 to 50/50, but in manual 1 it directly 50/50. May be it can make slight difference.

Mechanically - no. But it's different situation for the software.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers I personally believe that this has a significant influence, on the contrary. On the one hand, the vehicle remains flat, on the other, it tilts sideways. Its center of gravity is therefore no longer in the same place. And this influences inertia and brake activation moments. This creates different torques on each axle; in the same direction when they are on the same side, in opposition in the other case.

@@Softroader I don't think it's that significant. Wheel sitting in a roller is about 3 cm over the payment and that's the starting point. Wheel on the top of the roller is about 8 cm over the payment but then the suspension travel plays a role. Obviously these factors do make a difference but imho they don't change the overall results of these tests.

Haven't we seen 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation CR-Vs fail this test? What's different? Better traction control programming in some regions?

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers I was remembering CarCaine and Teknikens Värld videos. Now that I rewatch them, your tests show a more consistent performance from most CR-Vs.

@@0HOON0 Teknikens Värld tested CR-V IV, it failed the same way as in our tests. We took some more versions of that generation, the biggest problem (fails) were with those with manual transmissions. There's a lot of unknown about this awd system, including six versions of rear diff. But here it's 3rd gen. When it comes to CarCaine - it cannot be treated seriously.

It would be fantastic if someone with some brains, and also with an ability to speak, could do this test and walk us through which models and generations the cars are, which 4WD systems they have, what the tests are and what the findings are.
