Everyone saying Slipknot "sold out" All Hope Is Gone era. These dudes were famous from the fucking start. Yea they had like 7 years of being a local band, but when the self titled was released they blew up almost instantly. They even made TV appearances and performances LIVE on Conan and other talk shows. And they've been on MTV long before AHIG era Jesus Christ. These younger fans are misinformed.

Clown is a very smart man, and I love Slipknot but they kind of did start following a formula after Iowa. They touched the mainstream formula with Vol.3 then they really followed on AHIG. Just look at the AHIG era, the more friendlier masks, T.V. friendly videos, appearances on MTV, replaced jumpsuits for skinny jeans, less tension on stage and in interviews, and the AHIG songs have much more melody than your typical slipknot fashion. I hated the AHIG era, it was weird.

I think it is just the natural evolution of music. You want to incorporate new things to new art, and even though AHIG is more melodic it has that slipknot feeling as well. I don't think they have ever followed a formula, I just think that they made what they wanted at that specific time. Time makes bands evolve and I think that's what happened here. Still the same message but in a different era.
