The intro of the album, (515) is the DJ of the band, Sid Wilson,crying and having a huge breakdown bc his grand father died So they recorded it and added it in the album

I think the most important thing to remember about Slipknot is that they can heavy as F when they want to but mix melody in and as a result they introduced so many people into heavier music than they would otherwise of got into. They would have stuck to AC/DC and Black Sabbath Metallica and that would be it. I think bands like Jinjer are also doing that today. So whatever people think of bands that have some commercial success that often pisses off metal purists there is a big pay off and it’s only when you listen to the albums and not the big singles you get a sense of what they are really about. My older brother always listened to Slipknot as a teenager and I hated it, to me it was just screams. I listened comercial music during my highschool days until a friend introduced me to rock music, I went throught all rock and heavy metal around the 70s, 80s and 90s. Then one day I saw their 2019 album was coming out and started listening songs, All Out Life, Solway Firth, and then the full album and I loved it. I went to check out their discography and oh my god... I just love their first two albums and probably Iowa is my favourite. In a way the 'We Are Not Your Kind' album introduced me to their style in a 'softer' way and once I went to listen the first albums I was like kinda 'used' to that style so it was like mind blowing to hear that raw music and vocals. I still didn't listened all their music but it's curious that nowadays I love the band that I hated as a kid mainly because of my brother listening on speakers at low volume sitting at his computer while I was trying to sleep at night lol. Yeah, nobody asked I know.

Just in case you don't understand. Iowa is a performance piece more than it is a...song....it's really not made to be jammed out to, but as an emotional release for Corey. Dude was literally cutting himself during recording making some of the painful growls you can hear in it more visceral. Long story short....if you didn't enjoy listening to it....it was intentional

so in 515 Sid’s ( the dj ) grandfather died while he was in the studio making the album and he missed it, so he didnt want to breakdown until he said “ Turn on the mic and turn off all the lights in the recording room” the. he just let it all out.

@@6fejmk Than Iowa? Respectfully of course, I do not agree. Vol 3 is more focused on themes of anti-love and obsession, while Iowa is hatred and murder-centric.

@@atomicr4y472 iowa isn't really that heavy. When I first listened to the album I was shaking but now it's just soft. I mean Volume 3 is heavier because of the high pitch screaming and it's fast pace songs. It also sounds like he's mentally unstable in the album. Also the cover art looks heavier with the disturbing melted dog face.

@@6fejmk I understand that perspective, but to me Corey's higher screams feel really hollow, especially when they performed live. And for me, Iowa's heaviness isn't its scariness. That's not how I measure heaviness in metal. The way I do is the raw emotion, and as strong as the emotion in V3 is, it just doesn't feel as raw or unfiltered as in Iowa to me. Part of it feels way more studio. Not as much as AHIG, but still very studio-influenced.

Ugh. The album I have and always will live by! You guys seem like you had so much fun, can't tell if it's the alcohol or if it's just you guys lol. Wait till you see their live versions. Slipknot is always better live. Edit: I watched the whole dam thing. I came for slipknot reaction and stayed for how hilarious these guys are XD also, the titled track Iowa is not a song to be enjoyed. It's a song to appreciate. It's a little reminder of how dark and real the music we praise and slam too really is. Sorta like daddy from Korn.
