just to note, it’s not overdubs in the layered vocal parts (except in certain songs) lead vocals are done by corey taylor, then backings are done by chris fehn (left prior to their sixth studio album) and shawn crahan, both also doing percussion consisting mostly of bass drums, marching snares and the iconic beer keg

In my opinion The Virus of life is love. Almost all the album is talking about toxic relationships and break ups (sorry for my english, I'm french). You have The 2 vermillions where he is talking about an idealized person (the line she isn't real, I can't make her real), the nameless where he is talking about a toxic relationship and narcissistic perverse (don't know if I say it right it is pervers narcissique in French). And in danger keep away he is talking about a "break up" (he says he severed the only thing good in his life, what if I never saw you again ? I'd die right next to you in the end). In the prelude 3.0 he says I don't know why I ne'ver asked you, I don't know why I never tried which refers in my opinion to the 2 vermillions. He never understood why she destroyed him taht way. If we mix all tese ideas togeteher we can imagine that The character in the songs is in love with a woman whiwh is also a narcissistic perverse. He chooses to let her go because he knows she will hurt/kill him but he is deeply in love with her. It can apply to love but it can apply to addiction as I say in my conclusion. The songs can be listened in that order : -Vermillion Part 1 (he meets the girl and idealizes her) -The Virus of life (he falls in love) -Welcome (The relationship with her is very toxic because she hurts him all the time) -Vermillion part 2 ( he loves her so much he is in total denial. You can also imagine that the lines She isn't real is said by the relatives of the character, like bro, can't you see you are just making excuses to her, also the I can't make her real part means that she is so toxic that she makes him beleive that all of that is his own fault and not hers. ) -The nameless ( She is totally obsessed and wants to possess him, hurt him, like in so many toxic relationships. You can also imagine in Welcome and The nameless domestic abuse ) -Duality (You love the person but you know she is killing you, You know all of that is ammoral but you stay with her. You know the person in front of you is sick but you can't stop thinking it is your fault so you endure because you hope it will be better, but inside you know there is no hope at all. That is the duality of persons who are victims of domestic abuses. They know all of it but they also deny it and they know they are in denial but they just can't do otherwise) -Pulse of the maggots (this song is written for slipknot's fans but you can hear it like : I came back from all of it because I wasn't alone and the others made me understand that I have to fight and that I matter whiwh will lead to danger keep away. It says between the lines that you can and will make it through when you have someone to push you forward or just listening to you) -Opium of the people (it is that friend, family member,etc.. who sys : man you are wasting you're life, you won't have another one so you have to stop. That's it it is as clear as that) -Danger Keep away (he understands that if he stays with her he will die but there is still a part of him that loves her so much he thinks she is the "best part of his life" and taht he would "die right next to you in the end" like a lot of women and men who are victim of domestic abuse, they think it is their fault and they are so deeply bonded with the person they don't want to leave. maybe this time the person hurt him so bad he almost died and the authority made him leave) -Prelude 3.0 (Has remorse and question himself because all it is left in the ends are remorses and unanswered questions. And you can't do otherwise than blaming ourselves because you were made into thinking all was your fault for too long ) -Circle (the journey begins to reclaiming what was yourself before the relation ship. You turn and turn around and it is a cricle of questions, guilt, shame, and rediscover who you were before the person transformed you into what she wanted you to be (and it is never glamorous like the line in the nameless : you are nothing more, you are something less) -Before I forget (you finally make peace with yourself, accepting who you are, accepting you are not to blame. You understands that you could have done it sooner but love get on your way to do so. But you forgive yourself and also you won't fall into that trap again. Next time you will remember and leave before you forget (yourself). If you take this part of the song it is self explanatory : my end, it justifies my means (you had to leave her and you don't have to blame yourself for it because it was justified) All I ever do is delay My every attempt to evade The end of the road (you knew you had to but could'nt leave because you loved her) I am a world before I am a man (I am a lot more than you tried to make me think I was (again the person always abasing him in the toxic relationship) I was a creature before I could stand (he made peace with himself and knows it was'nt his fault at all like the person wanted him to think to keep hin in control) I will remember before I forget ( I will remember all my pain and all that journey before I forget myself and who I am again because of someone else ) Before I forget that (before I forget that I am a world before I am aman, etc... the end of the refrain is looping with the beginning to make us understand that it was the last time and this lesson in carved in him for ever) The songs Blsiter exist and three nil I don"t know what to do with them because the text is very dense and cryptic so I d'ont understand all of it and I don't know where to place them. Thanks if you red all of my thinking. It is a personnal point of view. I was in a toxic relationship for 5 years and it destroyed me. This album is so relevent to me, it is so powerful. In fact it can go with all the toxic relationships not only human ones I mean you can easily understand that the "girl" in all the album can be a personnification of drinking or drugs. Because the symptoms are the same. You can even imagine that it talks about real disease like cancer that you have to fight because the mind is so important in these fights, Sometimes you want to give up, you want to quit everything and you wonder why you ? But finally you make it through, not only for yourself, but for the others who suffers for seeing you like taht too. It can be, friends, family. The message in this album is that even if you are alone and in a situation like this, a lot of people have known what you feel right know and they made it through. You can too and we share our lessons and our herdships, ou pain and all our hope to you. You can make it, there is an end on that road and you will grow stronger after all this so, push trhough, we are together in it, use our songs like a catharsis and get up and fight. I hope you will do the other slipknot albums and why not Stone sour too ? :p You can't have enough of Corey Taylor XD

The album ends at Danger Keep Away, Dont Get Close and everything after are just bonus tracks lol great reaction btw. This album was pretty much a result of a band that hated each other during Iowa reconciling and getting sober and writing awesome songs that aren't just trying to be heavy like Iowa. Tbh I'd consider this album a 10. The only one after this that I'd say is a 10 would be We Are Not Your Kind from 2019. Has a good mix of this and Iowa with some extra weirdness lol.

i always took the nameless as a song about a person with 2 very opposing sides to them, one calm and rational, the other a violent maniac, and the constant internal struggle between them, finally with the maniac side winning in the end. "Stay inside the hole let me take control" "i am something more you are something less" basically internally talking to himself

Enjoyable video. I remember when this album first came out, me and my buds would listen to it and didn't really know what to make of it. About two weeks later we came back to it and everything just clicked; Vol 3 became a favorite and every one of us became a fan, if we weren't already. The music is layered, Craig and Sid add ambient sounds that are their own track playing under the main track. Repeat listening is rewarded.

every album since iowa has been divisive to fans on some level but this has been one of my all-time favorites since it came out (20 fucking years now 😭). i was super happy with it, the heaviness, the catchiness, the vocals, the cleaner production, the weird little divergences, the flow between tracks. uploaded it to my video game consoles to make it the soundtrack to sports games lmao

For the song Pulse of the Maggots, the maggots are the name of the Slipknot's fan community. It is a song written for the fans. After the IOWA album and all the drugs problems, false rumors about the group disbanding, etc... It is a song to say : We are back thanks to you and we won't let you down again, and we are here to stay

6 months late but what i think The Nameless is about being in a relationship and being a victim of a narcissistic person, whether it be a partner, parena figure or friend. And how thay narcissist needs you around to impose themself into you and constantly switching up their behavior to keep you coming back (like how the song itself switches up in its sound). And funnily enough, im that guy that says The Nameless is my favorite slipknot song 😭

This has got to be the absolute worst way to experience listening to a new album (to you) for the first time. You don't get to pause a roller coaster ride every 20 seconds to critique it. If you read ahead in the lyrics you're just spoiler alerting yourself and building a preconceived notion of what the song is before you even hear it.
@kw1ll1sreacts
@kw1ll1sreacts 2 ай бұрын
I believe a song can change my preconceived notions in various ways. I also believe people listen to music for different reasons. One person might care more about the instruments while lyrics might be more import to another person. Production also matters to some and not others. Sometimes when I listen, I can gravitate towards the thing that stands out the most to me in a good way. If the drummer is really good, it might take away from other things for me. I think the best thing comes when you hear the song for a second and third time. Even a 10th. With that being said, I hope you enjoyed the reaction.
