Slipping Automatic Transmission on a 2000's Honda Accord

Hey everyone, in this short video I show what a slipping automatic transmission looks like to the operator of the vehicle. The vehicle is a 2002 Honda Accord 2.3L with an F23A4 four speed automatic transmission. The vehicle in question has a slip from 1st gear into 2nd gear. This demonstration will be similar on all automatic transmission with a slipping set of clutches. Hope you all found this helpful and thank you for watching.

On this particular transmission it's highly probable that what you're experiencing is hesitation, not slipping. Most common cause? Dirty shift solenoids. The screens get clogged up, and sometimes you can get it to work by taking off the shift solenoids and cleaning the screens of debris. Other times you will need to replace the shift solenoids altogether. There are easy diagnostic procedures in the service manual for testing the shift solenoids.

I have a 2000 with a 2.3 with 4 speed auto with 225,000 mi and still shifts perfect. I flush the transmission fluid every 50,000 mi. Alot of mechanics say that's a bad idea but how do you explain my perfect transmission in a car that's known for bad auto transmission?

That is great to hear you have had a reliable run with your car. Flushing a transmission can be good and bad. It really depends on the frequency that the transmission is serviced and the primary drivers driving habitats. If the vehicle has the transmission serviced early in the vehicle's age/mileage and completed regularly then service the transmission will extend the life of the transmission. You have seen that with your vehicle. If however the vehicle has not seen regular service of the transmission, especially over 120k then a transmission service/flush can do damage to the transmission. I would check to see if any of the mounts are broken . Check the one for transmission that is the most common one to break

my front had no bushing in it and the rear was snapped off the top 😂

Is it really? And broken trans mounts will cause slipping? I got an 02 accord v6 and the front motor mount was gone, and I ended up getting a good deal on a pack that came with all engine and trans mounts, but I only replaced the front one that was visibly gone. But anyways, my car is slipping like this one as well. None of the other mounts are 'broken',, but they're all original still.

So transmission slipping? Can it be fixed? Or do you have to replace the transmission I have a Honda accord year 2000 looks very similar to yours. Also what might the cost range around?

The transmission will be getting rebuilt. Honda for a while was replacing some Accord transmissions under a extended recall/warranty. The rebuild will be around 2k parts depending.

Hello I’m hoping to contact someone in the USA. My name is Steve and I live in the UK. Wondering if it might be possible to ask for your help. I currently have a lovely 1999 . Honda Accord 3ltr Coupe which has been my pride and joy for the last 15 years. Unfortunately Honda only exported about 1,500 vehicles to the UK. One of the problems I have is the parts for this car are very hard to come by in the UK. I now have a problem with the automatic transmission. I am finding it difficult to find someone over here who can carry out a recondition. Everyone is saying that the parts arnt available. So I thought I would try and track down the parts myself. What I am after is some kind of reconditioning kit for this vehicle. Was wondering if there was any way you could possibly let me know of a parts supplier for this car in the USA? It was the USA where this car was manufactured not in Japan. I know this is completely a shot in the dark but am hoping someone somewhere may be able to put me in the right direction. Honda parts now has clutch packs for it. you can also get a jdm transmission imported

Did you repaired the transmission ? was the problem clutch pack or seals or was it deeper problem with valve body and hydraulic pressures?

No not yet, probably a burnt up input clutch is the issue.

@@Tech_1968 my 4cyl accord is 1998 with 90.000 miles, runs like new. Zero issues.

@@borisstupar5147 That's low mileage for a 1998, that's really good. Keep up the maintenance and it should last you a long time. I've had four and other that the transmission issue they are great cars.
