Our story is so similar it's scary 😳 I wasn't born with it though. my ribs started hurting 5 years ago, 2 months after a bad coughing fit I had when doing work in Texas. I finally got an official answer a month ago and I'm on the wait list for bilateral Hansen 2.0 surgery at the start of May (my birthday 😂) other doctors said it was gastric. I had endoscopy, colonoscopy, X-rays, CT scans, external and internal ultrasound, blood work, PT, and dietary changes. All resulting to a big fat NOTHING. I tried so hard to believe that it was in my head, but it felt too real. I sympathize with you, I only had my husband on my side. He didn't even realize how bad it was until he started coming with me to appointments. I wish I could meet you someday for dinner so we could talk and compare notes. You make me feel seen ❤️

Not a dr. Obviously. I have Radiating pain, chest pain, nausea, back pain, inflammation, i have trouble walking/gait major ones. As for pain relief nothing really helps except not using it. Don't lift, bend, twist. Corsets really help me. has to fit right though. Look up postural restoration institute /hruska clinic they helped me get my breath back. If/when I get surgery I'll let you know if they indeed found broken cartilage.

Logan, you are adorable. I really just want to hug you (very gently of course). You give me the courage to go forward and proceed with my own surgery. Thank god for Dr Hansen and his technique that he is sharing with my surgeon in Melbourne, Australia. Praying that you continue to heal and that you will be pain free really soon. For all of us with SRS, your words resonate so much.

You are so right, I have been isolating and blaming myself. I'm considering having a Facebook just for the reason of support. It's just so hard because I don't have support and also I have 3 producing disc's and so much going on I've overwhelmed. I just turned 40 so I'm still young but have been dealing with this for 3 years. I think who would want to date someone like me with all my problems. I went from an athletic person to weight gain and pushing myself through the pain. My doctors don't listen and it took me reading my radiology report and seeing I have 12th rib hypoplastic and googling it myself, watching your video to figure this out. Sorry for the venting. I'm so happy you have a strong support system😇

You are so awesome for posting this, Logan! Thank you for sharing so much of your personal experience with those who may be seeking answers for the horrible pain of SRS! May this video reach far and wide to those who suffer, and may lots of medical professionals view it too!!! They need to hear that SRS is not a mystery condition, and that like a hip replacement or knee surgery, the ribs can be fixed with the right surgical procedure. May God bless you as you continue to recover, so that your SRS pain will soon be a distant memory :).

I have just been diagnosed with this and it explains so much for me. I also have hEDS. Recently i had a flair up of my symptoms and thought it may be a heart attack as it was so bad and i couldn't breathe. I also had spasms into my abdominal muscles and into my upper back and shoulder blades. The pain was so bad i couldn't take a full breath. My physio helped me to relieve the muscles yesterday and i could breath again. But ive been told so many times nothing is wrong that i had stopped looking....it was just pure chance yesterday that my symptoms were in a flair snd she had a look!

Logan, you did a good job explaining this unusual condition that so few doctors have expertise in. You also gave very good philosophical advice, too. In the 3 years since you uploaded, I hope that your condition has improved so that you feel that normalcy you craved. I fracture a rib 3-1/2 months ago that has left me with the sensation of crunching and sometimes an actual loud pop with accompanying pain. So, maybe my cartilage tore, too, but nowhere near as badly as what you endured!

Omg our stories are so similar, Im so glad you got diagnosed! I was injured at work in 2017 and the very next day i was in extreme pain it felt so deep and everytime Id breath it was painful and felt like someone was stabbing me in my heart..I went to the er twice the first time they did a ct scan nothing showed up ( except gull bladder stones), then I returned again and they said i pulled a muscle but i knew something was off. Like you i went to a family doctor, at this point i was in tears couldnt sleep she treated me like crap said i was over reacting and said it was "scapular bursitis" which kinda sounded like it but symptoms didnt line up all the way for me, at this point i just gave up, not only was I in pain but terrified that I would die. After a few months the painful breathing went away but the constant burning, stabbing, aching dull pain remained under my scapula and rib on my left side. Fast forward in 2021 I have been having neck pain and the painful breathing came back whenever I lift my left arm i start feeling a painful squeezing stabbing feeling behind my scapula accompanied by my heart rate going up and just for a few seconds it feels like somethng is going to pop, so i went back to the er my blood pressure was up and i was terrified i had aortic disection due to how i obtained this injury ( which can happend in weight lifters) mine happen from lifting something too heavy at work and twisting. Er did a ton of xrays nothing came up. So recently I went to a chiropractor and he diagnosed me with this after I left I researched this online it all started to make sense and aligned with my symptoms. Im starting to have the same pain on my right side. This whole thing has effected my quality of life. Im just starting my journey, i go back for test results and what can be done this week and Im hoping surgery is not something I have to go through and the chiropractor can help me. Thank you for sharing your journey and helping others! I hate that anyone has to go through this but its comforting to know were not alone

Logan I was reading my MRI results and it said hyplastic 12th rib in the findings. My primary care doctor never mentioned and my pain doctor didn't either because they where focused on my 3 protruding disc's. I can't believe this was overlooked. I've been sent to gastro doctors and been complaining for years I wish someone could push my ribs back because they hurt. I just happened to read my radiology report from 6 months ago and was searching for info and your video came up. Everything your describing feels like me. I wish you could give more info. I'm scheduled to go to an orthopedic doctor(only one my insurance will cover) I will ask my doctor about it hopefully she takes it seriously. It's so frustrating that no one mentioned this and I had to read my own report and figure it out because I'm not a doctor. I wish I could speak to you personally for advice. I live in CA thank you for doing this video. Dealing with doctors often I end up tears because no one is listening and they give me generic answers like you have pain, like you said.i too don't want to take medicine. I can't even work and feel disabled and I'm to young for this, it's causing me depression.

Thank you for putting this video out there. I'm pretty sure I have slipping ribs syndrome. I have suffered for 7 years and gone to many doctors and no one knew what was wrong with me. I found out about Dr Adam Hanson's procedure for repairing the ribs on KZbin. I'm now in the process of finding a thoracic surgeon in Lynchburg Virginia.

Thanks for your video Logan, you are great at it! I’ve been in severe back pain for over 7 years and had all of the same tests, pain pills that don’t help, so many doctors thinking it’s all in my head .... and finally I went to a Dr that has been in practice for a long time, and he suggested maybe it was slipping rib! So now I need to find out if there is a surgeon in my area that could help me. I have no quality of life, I know exactly how you feel. I’d like to hear more about your surgeries and recovery though.... or would it scare me? I’m 59 years old and have fibromyalgia also, so I know I’m not going to bounce back quickly! I think you’re great at KZbin videos though 😁 I hope you have a pain free life from now on! 😘

Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to watch! I’m so happy for you that you finally, most likely, have a diagnosis. It’s a horrible feeling to spend years wondering what’s wrong with you or to feel like it’s all in your head. I’m sorry you know the feeling 😞 honestly as far as both surgeries / recovery go, I personally feel it was 1000% worth it. The surgery is no walk in the park but compared to the pain I felt every minute of every day for six years, it was minimal because it was “pain with a purpose”. I’m not sure if you’re on Facebook but if you are I highly recommend joining the slipping rib syndrome group - there are a lot of people with autoimmune issues who have had the surgery and had fairly easy recoveries. I also speak fairly often to a woman who is in her mid 60s and had the surgery and she said it was the best decision of her life. Sorry for the long reply but I strongly suggest joining the group for tons of information & a great support system. The people on there are so helpful and kind. I wish you luck! Don’t give up ❤️

The more research I do, the more I feel I have it. I just brought it up to my pcp, and although she agrees that my pain is mostly from inflammation and my ribs moving, she only suggested to take Tylenol and Ibuprofen and that within time it hopefully with get better. I also have Lupus and I feel like it always makes things worse too. I was wanting to get a second opinion but I don't know which specialist to see. Would you recommend starting with an Orthopedic?
@loganalu
@loganalu 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch. So sorry to hear you may be struggling with SRS and that you also had covid. I hope you’re doing much better now! As far as which type of specialist to see, I personally had no luck with the 4-5 different orthopedics I tried but every doctor / case is different. What I would personally recommend is calling around to different doctors in your area and first just ask the secretary to ask the doctor if they treat (or at least acknowledge the existence of) slipping rib syndrome. That will save you time, money, & wasted energy if they end up telling you they don’t know what SRS is. I would maybe start with a chiropractor who treats SRS just to see if they feel you indeed do have it. I hope that helps! Best of luck to you. ❤️

I am going through exactly what you mentioned. I had my gallbladder out, even though all tests showed no gallbladder symptoms. My doctor went in and did exploratory laparoscopic surgery to look at my gallbladder and see if anything else was causing pain. He said my gallbladder was inflamed and took it out. I am wondering if the slipping rib caused the gallbladder inflammation. As you mentioned, when I had my gallbladder removed the pain was still there. I had my gallbladder removed in 2017. Like you, I had numerous tests, saw several doctors, had numerous injections, pain medications, pain counseling (is a joke, talking about pain is NOT going to miraculously make it go away!) muscle relaxers, physical therapy (2 different times, only made it worse!) Now after 2nd PT, I have another rib pain higher up that feels like it has popped out. So now have to see PCP this week and tell my doctor what has happened. Having some problems breathing too. Like you I did lots of research and doctors didn't believe me. All saying it's rare, you can't have it. No pain medications help. I just want to have surgery to fix it and make it better. I am so tired of being in severe chronic pain and it is affecting the quality of my life and is debilitating!!! I agree about being your on advocate. Always have been. I diagnosed myself, after hours and hours of research. I will keep going to find a doctor until someone listens to me. Thanks for the Facebook group tip.

Hey is there anyway we can chat because I’ve been having this lower side rib cage pain it’s dull achey but if I press in the spot it’s excruciatingly painful and I can feel it sometimes walking around or bending or just daily life I can feel it I’ve been dealing with this pain since Nov/Dec 2020. My primary care says it’s muscoskeletal but I don’t know because I’ve tried the stretches and rolling a tennis ball and I can hear and feel my rib cage pop and click on the right side when I use the rolling techniques my doctor told me to do. I’m really worried and I want to go back to normal and I feel like doctors don’t listen to me they’re telling me it’s anxiety and my family doesn’t believe me. I need someone to talk to I’m struggling…

Did the pain go worse when for example exercising, running, carrying heavy objects? For me before my pain started, I could exercise, but now for two years, everytime I run or carry heavy objects for example, this stabbing pain comes and the rib area feels like swollen.( oh yeah, further in the video you said, that you couldn't exercise for 6 years).

Hi Logan, did your surgeon give you any advice around if you wanted to get pregnant in the future? E.g. Was there any discussion about whether there might be rib complications if/when/if you ever got pregnant? Really trying to find some advice around SRS that relates to having kids after the surgery but struggling to find anyone in quite the same life situation.

I’m not sure if I have slipping rib syndrome... I’m only 14 years old and I told my mum when I was 11 that my ribs felt like they were popping in and out on both sides but mainly the right side. I’m now 14. We’ve searched and the only thing we’ve seen related to my symptoms is slipping ribs. I need your advice. I’m from the uk so I have free healthcare especially because I’m under 16. I haven’t gone to the doctors yet because we’ve heard about people constantly getting rejected about it, should I go to the doctors with the symptoms I have. I’ve had my ribs popping for 3-4 years and sometimes but not all the time it is a little bit painful. I have a cat and I can’t let her walk on my stomach or near my ribs because that makes it hurt and I feel like if I breathe then something bad may happen. I also have severe upper right back pain and it hurts like hell especially as I’ve grown a little bit older. Should I go to the doctors and get it checked out?

Hi! I’m sorry to hear you’re suffering with such bad pain. I would definitely suggest seeing a doctor since the pain has gotten worse as you’ve grown. I know there’s a doctor in the UK who does my surgeon, Dr Hansen’s surgical method. I believe his name is Joel Dunning. Not sure exactly where he is in the UK but I know he does treat SRS. also if you have Facebook I would highly suggest joining the slipping rib syndrome Facebook group because there’s a lot of members from the UK who should be able to help you out / give you suggestions. The link to the group is in my description box! Good luck with everything ❤️
