It's been a while since I've fished from the shore so thought I'd make the most of a small weather window and do some lure fishing from the rocks. The wind was still a pain, but some new lures seemed to work well and I saw plenty of wildlife, so all-in-all not a bad few hours on the rocks.
Hope you enjoy & tight lines

Great little session, and the safety aspects with the beacon was really interesting. Good to see the seal and porpoise moving through. Proves the waters are healthy and plenty of fish, otherwise, they wouldn't be there!

Great footage Nathan especially the big pod of dolphins. I've fished their numerous times and always did very well fishing Ammo frozen sand eel under the float. Managed an 11 pound pollock when fishing with my nephew down there one August, but it was flat calm and massive spring tide wind Northerly hence it being flat. Keep the posts coming very enjoyable watching mate tight lines

Well done Nathan, used to climb down there late 80’s for some very memorable seasons, some great fish as the tide rips out on the ebb causing the eddies, float fished or jelly worms at the time. Below fog horn another great mark and more comfortable 🎣👍

I had one of my best sessions ever at Eyemouth last month, 30+ mackerel and a couple of pollock on a single lure. A seal kept popping up now and again there and it took two of my fish, once just the fish and the second time it took the lure as well. All adds to the excitement. Tight Lines 🐟:)
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 11 ай бұрын
Sounds like a good session mate. It's a pain when the seals cotton on to your fish. If that happens again, stop fishing and wait for the seal to pop it's head up. When it does, cast close to it and the lure hitting the water should scare it off for a while. You'll know if it's worked because they make a huge commotion and disappear. Tight lines mate👍🎣

Do you think the ones you catch at your feet have followed the lure in and wait till it's got nowhere to go before they hit it, or, are they lurking at your feet. Or maybe both 🤔 TL's Adz and thanks again👍🎣
@adztaylor2277
@adztaylor2277 11 ай бұрын
Probably chasing in most of the time, but sometimes laying in wait for the ambush as the lure comes in close. Would be nice to have underwater footage to see what they are actually doing. Seen so many people fishing over the years losing a good possible take because of a hasty retrieve when close in.

An interesting afternoon out, Nathan - good to see you being safe. I’d not seen that type of flotation device before - recommended over a crew saver auto inflate for mobility, when climbing n rock scrambling would you say? The wrasse was lovely - caught my first female cuckoo at Neist on my birthday at end of Sept, and my first Ballan wrasse this Sunday just gone out exploring on Beara peninsula; a chunky 46cm beauty! Teeth like a piranha! Unhooking and returning was interesting .. Stay safe and keep up the positive lure catch n return. Inspiring stuff yet again. Best wishes, G
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 11 ай бұрын
Yep, definitely more comfortable, G. More importantly, IMO, when inflated the bulk of those full pfd's make it nearly impossible to climb back out of the drink if you slip in, unless you deflate it, which is the main reason I've never worn them. The Alto's are a open ring so you can climb back out. No good if you're unconscious though. Blimey mate, sounds like you're getting about and a nice birthday present, those cuckoo wrasse are one of the prettiest fish in our seas. Hope you're giving the bass a go while you're over there, you're in a top-notch area for them and get that DD pollack. Tight lines mate👍🎣
@garyweston5116
@garyweston5116 11 ай бұрын
Right, I'm getting an Alto one then. Your recommendations have always been spot on for gear and tips, so thank you. I've wondered about the auto inflate crew savers; how restrictive they'd be inflated. I'd want to be out sharpish, rather than bobbing about freezing, and losing coordination and movement. Yeah, i'm doing some miles - perks of being a teacher too, getting the holidays. Loved Beara - stunning area, quiet (compared to Skye) roads that aren't potholed by crazy sized caravans or campers, nobody fishing that I saw, and some 68cm PBs of chunky crash diving pollock! Coalies were massive too! Booked up again for first week in Jan before school returns. Weather restricted my fishing time last weekend - winds up to 55mph aint to be messed with, but can always try to find a wee spot on the peninsula, hopefully. Looking forward to your next boat adventure too - thanks again, mate. Stay safe. @@SlippyLimpets

That was action packed. Got to agree about lighter tackle as opposed to the heavier stuff. If you watch the Lateral Line, you’ll see what happens when heavy gear gets snagged! Though maybe you might have landed that bigger fish 🤔 (I’m fairly sure that was a big pollack). Also, to whoever put that much time and effort into making an accessible route down with a concrete platform deserves a pat on the back. Very hairy spot there but the only place I’ve had a shore caught cuckoo wrasse! Tight lines

Alright mum 🤣 I've thought about it over the years, but another of these places have quite unstable rock, meaning that any rock anchors offer a false sense of security. That's why I've gone down the pfd route

Float,communicate, and be dead in 15 minutes in the north sea! If your dead and floating the seagulls will have you,if you sink,the crabs will eat you! Just be careful! Love your films.

Aww dude... Love your Vids from the rocks. Been having some fun around Oban/dunbeg with lovely Pollock up to 9 pound... But would never even attempt what you're doing with your rock climbing. You have not a drop of fear in ya.

To be fair, if you fall in from the shore you'll be able to swim back in so won't be subject to death by cold water unless he was unconscious.
