Neist Point is the only fishing mark I've ever been to where I've called it a day because I was catching too many fish. Every cast was a 5-6lb pollack, and at the end they were pulling me to my knees and my casting arm was dead. There was a shoal of dolphins, a minky whale and an orca all within 300 yards of the rocks, and I was glad to just put the rod down and enjoy the view for a while. Can't wait to go back.

I've had that fishing at the MOG but they weren't that big. I'd love to see an orca, I'd stop fishing and just marvel at them even if I was on a blank 🤣

It's only happened to me maybe 3 time's in my 37 years fishing and one of those times was spinning in my local river in the pissin rain and I caught 36 wild brown trout in less than 2 hours and I only called it cuz I was shivering, other times were Pollack up to 4lb on every cast at a rock mark called the stakk on the isle of man and I called that on account of dehydration, if I'd taken more water I'd have continued cuz I was only 2 hours into the flood, 1 bar spinner in every cast brought a fish.

That sounds lovely watching the whale's we sometimes get them minky whale's and I've seen my fair share of basking shark's but sadly not so many around the isle of man anymore.

@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
I always use approach shoes, they are designed for scrambling around on rocks and have sticky rubber soles. The only problem with them is when the rock is wet or there's any seaweed on it, and studs help then. The down side to studs is that they reduce friction on dry rock. Ideally, I'd have a pair of shoes without studs for when I know it's going to be dry and a pair with studs for rainy days. Glad you like the vid and hope this helps

I notice you have studs in what look like trail running or approach shoes buddy? I wear my old trail running shoes once they're done over stocking foot waders, I tend to slip about the riverbed a bit, I never thought the sole would be deep enough or would hold a stud?
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
I do the same with my old trail running shoes, but I choose a model with pretty deep cleats. Also, I use the brand Supertrak, which makes studs with different length screws so can normally get away with the shorter version- 1100 I think. I also stick a bit of silicone adhesive on the thread when screwing them in to help stop them coming out. Hope this helps👍

I will be on vacation in Glendale this September. I'm coming over from across the pond, the States. I plan on fishing here and Loch Pooltiel. What lures should I stock up on? I was thinking about bringing some metals I use here and am familiar with but I don't know if it'd be worth it. Kastmasters, Hopkins Shorty and Hopkins NO=EQL, and Crippled Herring. It seems like I want things that are long and thin, but would the shorter and fatter ones like the Kastmaster or Hopkins Shorty be useful?
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
What a lovely place to spend a vacation. Metals can be very productive for pollack and I'm a big fan of the shorter, fatter style- more like slow jigs because pollack love to hit lures on the drop- but you need to get low down in the water column and the current can be vicious and will move your lure past you before you can actually start a retrieve. Saying that, soft plastics outfished metals on this trip 4/1 so it might be worthwhile bringing a few heavier shads/paddle tails. Hope this helps

@@SlippyLimpets Great info. Thanks for letting me know. I am used to fishing an inlet where there is current that can be strong depending on the tide. The depth there is about 5 meters. It sounds like I'll be fishing deeper than that over there.

The new rod's v bendy Nathan, how do you rate it v the Tailwalk?
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
I'm liking it. It is very progressive, but it's actually quite similar to the Tailwalk in that respect, and just how I like my rods. I'm not one for the pokey rod trend. It is a tad long for some rock marks, though

I'm fishing this mark on Thursday. I'll be on my own, i'm 48 but I got unstable angina at the moment, so can't do anything too taxing with respect to climbing. I'm guessing nearer the harbor has easiest routes to rocks?

Hi Jamie, the harbour has pretty easy access. Also past the lighthouse on the north coast, there's some easier access marks along there. Hope this helps
