well this isn't really a "lighting video", it's very focused on the console. besides, we made an actual "lighting video" in 2015, so this one isn't really "finally" either lol. although that one is outdated

As an LD who started on ShowXpress as well, I believe that it develops this 'style' and thought process of programming into your show files (no matter the platform). I still find myself using this ShowXpress 'style' of workflow in my MA and Hog busking shows. I also couldn't agree more with making use of pallets and not creating pre-defined lists of cues for busking. Placing everything in pallets and not creating full scenes allows for an exponential increase in possible outputs.
@dougberry4674
@dougberry4674 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Of course, MA, Hog, and especially Avo allows for an even more exponential increase in possible outputs vs showxpress because of how shape effects are based around the current center value of the given parameter

Doug Berry Agreed, programming movement effects using relative positioning as opposed to always absolute (like in ShowXpress), opens a lot of doors to creating unique looks while still using the same p/t effect!

I’m the LD of a german party band. We use the Zero 88 Solution in combination with MADRIX (triggered by the solution via DMX input). I see your point in being much more flexible the way you programmed your show, but in most instances I just don’t have the time in between songs to do a live transition. The way I set up my show file I can just jump to the next page while one song is still running, bring down the playbacks at the end of the song and I’m immediately ready to go for the next one. I then build the looks from the preprogrammed playbacks I have on that page. People often ask me if this is a timecoded show or if I use a GrandMA2. They’re quite confused and surprised when I show them my workflow, but it does work quite well for me. 😅 It’s nice to see how other people work. It gives me new ideas and inspiration. I’d love to see one of your live band setups. Keep up the great work guys!

@@tictac1919 Although, I would disagree that showxpress develops this workflow. It really doesn't encourage any workflow, and personally I've never seen another showxpress user set up their showfile even remotely similar to the way I did

I've been using ShowXpress with an Akai Mini for my DJ "lighting console" for the past couple of years. It works ok. Our church just got Titan One, and the media tech set it up, so I'm starting to use it as the "lighting guy" for Sunday morning services. They bought it for future expansion... WAY more than their lighting rig is presently capable of doing ... I was wondering if Titan would work for my DJ rig, but i hadn't seen any other DJs really show what it was capable of, and didn't want to "buy to try", as it seems more designed for permanent installation. However, based on your video, I'm going to consider it for 2020. 🤔 Thank you for the video. It was very informative!
@djdrewthomas

So, I finally got the hang of Titan. Was OR for an annual regional youth conference and the lighting looked great... Much faster to build on Titan, despite the learning curve. I'm going to buy a T1 dongle for my DJ rig, then sell my ShowXpress. I am finding Titan is much easier for me personally to program and build shows like big proms, etc. Also, then I won't need to try running two different software applications. I'm using the Akai with Titan thru OsiMIDI, as I don't have the budget for an Avolites console. Do you know if Avolites works on Mac or only PC? I don't currently have any PC computer.

Good job! you can have the BPM master on a button and release a fader .... you can also use a macro window for the master palette times 15s 8s 5s 3s 0s and the overlap 100% 75% 50% 25% 0%. obviously does not need so much time but that's the idea ... Thank you for your experience sharing!
@dougberry4674

I like the BPM master on a fader because when i use the multiplier i constantly go from 1x to 1/2 or 1/4 during breakdowns, transitions, drops, etc The macro window I totally don't use enough, but what I typically do for fade times is simply set it to 1 or 2s, and then throughout the show i just type on the keypad manually any unique fade time i want for a given pallet. But I really should check out the macro window more!

You work a lot with Avolites, I see. Do you happen to know what is better? an avolites titan mobile or an avolites quartz
@dougberry4674
@dougberry4674 4 жыл бұрын
I perfer the titan mobile because I can't stand the resolution of avolites physical consoles, and especially the screen size on the quartz. Plus, a decent laptop will have a way better graphics card for running the internal viz the quartz can barely do it in any kind of meaningful detail, but it's still nice for reference the quartz does have sound triggering while titan mobile does not, so that's cool, but every other factor i'd rather have a titan mobile and a nice laptop. Plus it costs less and fits as an airplane carry-on, you have to check luggage the quartz

Hi, In one of your Videos you sayed that you need only 2h to programm a complete showfile... When I heard it the first time I was "😱" (i don't know a word for this. 😅 sorry), because I use GrandMa2 and I need 5-7 hour for a Showfile with "everything" (Colourpicker, Layouts, sometimes a smal timecode for a beginning,...) So how long do you need now to programm a Showfile from the Video? And thank you for making all these super interesting Videos. Kind regards from Germany Nico
@dougberry4674
@dougberry4674 4 жыл бұрын
If I'm programming *as fast as I can*, and I'm in front of the rig in person, I can complete the showfile shown in this video in under 30 minutes. I haven't tried recently, but I could probably do it under 20 minutes these days. But most of the time, including taking time to make the rig in the visualizer so I can do 95% of my programming pre-viz, it takes me between 1 - 2 hours total when I'm not rushing, and depending on how complex I make the file for a band or whatever. The file shown in this video would definitely take less than hour, even at my normal pace When I used to use showxpress, there were some things that would take me 3+ hours to program one single effect because I had to make it manually to get it to look how I wanted, their effect generator could not do it. 20-30+ hours for an entire file was not uncommon for shows with more fixtures, and those showfiles were considerably less complex than what's even shown in this Avo file
@Pigatto17
@Pigatto17 4 жыл бұрын
You might be making your life a bit more complicated because depending on how I want to program a show, it could take 15-30 mins for an entire show or it could take 30+ hours. It would take me so much longer if I decided to make a layout view color picker with interactive tiles from scratch, etc
