Guys, we're gonna address this because a bunch of people are commenting about it. Of course we didn't just sit the speakers on top of plain old truss totems. We used these plates www.globaltruss.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemNumber=604&MainId=9&Category=18. At that point, the totems at that height become more structurally sound than if we had used classic tripod speaker stands at that height. Further, there's always an equipment list in the description, and those plates have been listed under Truss & Stage since the video was published. Always check there to see if you can figure out your own equipment concerns or questions first! :)

@alexberry38337 жыл бұрын
We won't be able to help you with that since the company that rents us gear always gives us incredible pricing, especially for charity events. Your best bet is to find some local rental companies and either look at their pricing online, or if they haven't publicized their pricing just call/email and ask for a quote.

Did you guys use the X32 board with a digital snake on stage without any wires to back of house? Is that possible?
@SLMEntertainment6 жыл бұрын
Yes. We used an S16 and an X32 Rack (which was setup to function as an S16) as digital snakes near the stage, and ran Ethernet to FOH. All of the signal from the stage to FOH was digital.

Great gig, I have one question, do you still feel that the coverage of the SM80's is an issue. In this video (as far as I can tell) they have fantastic coverage and directivity. Maybe you got the impression of bad coverage from the room acoustics in the past?
@alexberry38337 жыл бұрын
I absolutely still feel the coverage of the SM80's is an issue, and 100% did not get the impression of bad coverage from room acoustics. The only reason it worked well here is because this was a smaller coverage area than what we usually have to cover, so the narrow HF dispersion of the SM80's wasn't an issue.

Do you think EV ETX's 12P would of made a difference ?
@alexberry38337 жыл бұрын
For what?
@Jack-uy6tc7 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking about purchasing two ETX 12P's , was wondering what your assessment of them are. Would they have worked for this gig? thanks
@alexberry38337 жыл бұрын
My assessment of the ETX-12P is reeeeally long and I don't really feel like typing it all up lol. We'll eventually have a video review out, but that doesn't help you right now. This should help some: On a scale of 1-10 in terms of loudness, I'd rate the ZLX-12P at 3, the ETX-12P at 4, and the SM80 at a 7. To put some hard numbers to that, I've measured the SM80 to do 125dBA continuous at half power (-3dB down from max) at 1 meter. I've measured the ETX-12P to do 118dBA at limit at 1 meter. Both of these were with 0 EQ, and the 12P certainly needs it. It has a lot of painful HF distortion when pushed hard, which you can see me deal with with EQ in a bunch of our videos. With my EQ, the ETX-12P does about 115dBA at limit at 1 meter. As for your other question, would they have worked for this gig? I guess that depends on what your definition of "worked" is. They would have produced sound that I would have been able to make sound good at a decent enough volume. Would they have been able to do as good of a job as the SM80's? That I'm not sure of, as I'm not sure exactly how hard I was pushing the SM80's, but my guess is that they probably would not have. To give you another idea of their performance, I'm pushing the ETX-12P's to limit at basically every single event we use them at. I actually can't think of the last time we used them for mains that I didn't push them right up to limit. At Trinity Mini THON 2017 I actually pushed them about 5dB past peak limit during the raves, and it was only around 104dBA or so at front row IIRC.

Is there any reason you chose the X32 rather than something like the Yamaha TF-1? Not a fan of Behringer...
@alexberry38337 жыл бұрын
For a couple reasons, but why aren't you a fan of Behringer? Or the more important question being, are you not a fan of Behringer or not a fan of the X32? If you're not familiar with the X32, it's extremely popular and regarded by countless people as one of the best products Behringer has ever come out with. It completely shook up the console market, and is currently one of the only consoles at its price point offering the features that it does. Basically, you can hate everything else Behringer makes, but the X32 pretty much stands alone. Anyways, I chose the X32 over something like a TF-1 specifically because it was the cheapest digital option by far, and we take what we can get at the best price we can get it. That, plus we own an X32 rack and I used that as a second stagebox. But beyond that, I would take an X32 over a TF-1 even if price wasn't involved, simply because I like the X32 more. It's a great board to mix on, sounds great IMO (the effects aren't 10/10, but they more than get the job done), and it's REALLY easy to find stuff like stageboxes for it. The TF-1's biggest issue, IMO, is that it's basically targeted at laymen/people who don't know anything about sound. I just don't at all like how the console was basically designed around that, so IMO it doesn't even compete with the X32 even though they're both around the same price. The Behringer X32 is like the JBL VerTec of consoles. It's not the best thing out there, but everyone's used one and it'll get the job done.
@matcookie127 жыл бұрын
Alex Berry Cool.
@matcookie127 жыл бұрын
Alex Berry However in my opinion, the TF1 is better as it has 8 more inputs and 4 more outputs, and also better mic preamps and effects. Anyway, we can have different opinions. I will agree that the X32 is the best thing Behringer has produced, but only because all the rest of their products are crap! But I'd say you come from a more DJ background and I come from a more theatrical background.
@alexberry38337 жыл бұрын
Where do you see the TF1 has 8 more inputs? The X32 has 32 normal inputs + 8 aux inputs, so technically it's a 40 channel board, which is what the TF1 advertises to be as well. And while you're correct about better preamps and effects, in real world use will you really notice the difference? Maybe with the effects (even though the X32's multiband comp sounds amazing), but more than likely not with the preamps. It's not that I think the TF1 is worse objectively in terms of the hardware, I just don't like how its focus was almost entirely towards laymen being able to use the board. And if you really want to get into it, if I were having to decide on X32 vs TF1 to buy, and disregarding the TF1 "ease of use" stuff, I'd still pick the X32 all day. The X32 is bigger with more faders, more physical inputs, aux sends/returns, way more knobs and buttons on the face making mixing easier, and all at the same price! Even the TF5 has hardly any dedicated knobs for parameter control! That's a big deal for me personally. Plus, as a company taking into account what other engineers might want if they'd have to mix a show on our gear, I'd still want the X32. Obviously if we had a buget of $10K I'd rather have a Midas Pro1 or a Yamaha QL1, but at this price point I think your average engineer would feel more comfortable on an X32 because they've probably used one before, and they probably haven't used a TF1. Then to go even further, bang for buck with the X32 is insane. For less than the price of JUST a Midas Pro1, I can get TWO full size X32's, an X32 compact, an X32 Rack and an S16. Now I have 32 in/16 out worth of digital stagebox I/O, a rack mounted mixer for DJ shows, a small format mixer for events where space is an issue, and a dedicated full size mixer for monitors on bigger shows, all for less than the price of just a standalone Midas Pro1! You certainly can't do that with the TF family of consoles. And to reiterate again, I'm not objectively talking down the TF series overall, I'm more talking up the bang for buck of the X32 family.

Why do you don't use arri or normal fresnels for front light? It's cheaper in rental, less work and the faces look mutch better, six or eight fresnels and you are good to go. This LED white looks awful... Would be great if you think about that.
@dougberry46747 жыл бұрын
i'd call the white i can get passable. i could easily mix it to be much warmer and more conventional looking, but i kind of prefer a near daylight tone at the moment in my area, this is actually what's easiest in terms of rental availability, and it's the most convenient for me for power draw and such. plus, when you say "normal" fresnels, if you mean bulb based, would you also want me to run dimmers? not only would they take more power than all of my leds combined, and would be more complex to set up control
@the_benni7 жыл бұрын
With RGBW you are not able to mix a warm white. It would not look the same if you would have a conventional lamp. Yes, I mean bulb based lights with controlled by a dimmer. Sorry but a lighting rental company without a conventional frontlight is not a professional one... Hit me when I`m wrong, but I its technically not done right. Nobody wants to have "daylight" white, the musicians look like dead in thier faces. Trust me, I´m a designer and operator for over 15 years now. But the rest is done well I guess.
@dougberry46747 жыл бұрын
first, they're rgba, not rgbw. second of all, any programmer/designer worth anything should be able to color mix a straight up cheap rgb fixture to be the correct color temperature white that they want, even the cheap slimpar 56s. third, no company *needs* any set of specific gear to be "professional". further, if there are some things a company *needs*, it's certainly not conventional pars of all things these days. fourth, by your logic, if only conventional pars are professional/acceptable for stage lighting, and only they can provide what is absolutely required, would you discredit everyone who is using led based ellipsoidals for lighting stages? for example, many fixtures have quite basic engines. ETC ColorSource Spots are RGB-L, and there are plenty of other ellipsoidal running similar leds, do you really not like the look of any of those products either? and lastly, daylight is absolutely an acceptable color temperature to light a stage with depending on the event. if it wasn't, nobody could ever have an outdoor music festival! (kidding) anyway, i was going for straight up clear visibility competing with loads of ambient lighting in the room while preserving the most natural skin tones and to make the "artists", aka the teacher band, zumba instructor, and student announcers, look as normal and casual as possible, the lights were set to fill that objective optimally. the color temperature was actually warmer than true 5500k, it was probably closer to like a "golden hour" daylight, like between 3500-4000k. if i had used something near 3000k or warmer, it would have looked bizarre given all of the factors with the event. you also have to take into consideration the color grade of the video, how the grade effects exposure, and how the camera interprets color to begin with.

Doug Berry Okay you don't get it... You know everything better, I give up.
@dougberry46747 жыл бұрын
huh? i'm just trying to understand your perspective, jeez. i appreciate constructive criticism, so i was looking for a deeper understanding of your point of view. my understanding is that your objective is always strictly bulb-temperature warm white for front lighting and nothing else. seems narrow-minded to me depending on the application and desired result for the event. that's all, no worries.

it's not even close to overloaded. what you're seeing is a combination of the *f31 on top* actually sagging a little, perspective illusion, and a bit of camera lens distortion plus, even if it was deflecting, most 12 inch box truss (including global) is actually rated to deflect quite a bit for structural purposes. it's common to even see longer truss spans, like near double this length, deflect with nothing on them at all
