I used to be a Justin in a relationship like this, he is not a healed person and has a lot of trauma he has to work through, alone. When you don’t work on your trauma and yourself, it’s very difficult to be in a relationship, you hurt not only yourself but your partner.

This is what I honestly think. I think Justin was abused in the industry and during that turmoil took all his anger and abuse out on Selena as an outlet of what he was going through internally. I think to get away from these tormenting thoughts, he thought getting married would help heal him. Per his friend, he asked Selena first and she didn’t think they were ready. He got mad at the rejection, and per an interview he had, he was not afraid to ask Hailey became he knew she would say yes. Basically the marriage didn’t help him the way he thought it would and he never had closure with Selena. He broke down when he found out she was hospitalized for a mental breakdown knowing he probably helped cause that. He’s never truly dealt with what has happened to him or opened up about it and he’s never had the chance to tell Selena that he was sorry. I think he’s carrying all that mental baggage around and living in that misery and Hailey gets to go along for this ride. He needs to get help and he can’t be a good partner until he does.

I think this is spot on. Justin proposed to Haley out of spite, and Haley probably said yes because she had genuine love for him. It would explain the weird asf timeline of Justin being with Selena and then being engaged to Hailey so quickly. And it wasn't until they tied the knot that he realized he had made a mistake. Marriage didn't heal him and he probably still had lingering love for Selena. He tried to get over one situation (Selena) by going into another (Haley), but it probably didn't work and just made him worse. But being a devout Christian, he probably is trying his best to take his marriage seriously... even if that means being in an unhappy marriage. This all would explain his fluctuating dislike for Hailey... like "I'm stuck with you" vibes... It's pretty sad for Hailey because she probably went into this with genuine intentions. JB screwed both Selena and Hailey over, and the world pins the girls to one another, when they really should be faulting JB for this mess.
