Tony Lester-Thank you so much ! Our 2014 has been giving us fits. Doing everything yours was, and also resetting all the "Best mileage" numbers, when it would act up. My husband checked/cleaned/tightened all the grounds and feeds under the hood, and then we took it for a ride...Within minutes it acted up. He was so disheartened. I found your video, and shared it. The drivers side was bolted down on the insulation, he removed the ground, cut the insulation and reinstalled. It has been perfect ever since. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video.

THANK YOU for posting this - at 151,000 miles my 2014 Silverado started acting up... Stabilitrak notice coming on, radio turning off, A/C power diminishing, wipers randomly coming on, when hazards on the A/C would coincide with the tempo of the hazards, and today my truck shut off when turning left into a parking spot... I first noticed issue last week when towing my camper, so I thought there may be a short in my trailer wiring... you have saved me time and money and frustration... looking forward to tackling this project later today!

Had this issue on my 2014 Silverado for about 3 months. Finally took into the Chevrolet dealership to try and figure it out. They told me they diagnosed it and said it was the negative cable (ground) they recommended replacing the cable to fix the issue. Quoted me 5 $514 to replace that cable and including a 180$ diagnosis fee.. I said no thank you did some research . Came up on this video and tried it myself. So far no stability, park assist off, steering reduced drive with care codes pop up. My steering had been slightly more stiff and shifting from drive to reverse the steering would go hard momentarily. Now it feels even smoother and does not get stiff . Drove it for a few hours nothing has came up hopefully the issue is fixed. Unfortunately I did pay 180 for the diagnosis since they told me my warranty didn’t cover that specific issue. Wish I would have seen this video before I took it in. GREAT VIDEO.

I followed the instructions to this video and had no results so im guessing didn't have the same ground issue as this guy. But it got me thinking and Tonight i found a ground wire behind the passenger front wheel. I took it off and the dash lights came on. I put it back and the dash lights go off. It was acting like a switch. Where its grounded to the truck its exposed to all road grime and weather. I cleaned it all up and put it back and so far no problems. I hope thats the problem.

Thanks for posting this. I bought a used 2014 Silverado a few months back. I had a similar issue to your steering problem. My steering wheel wouldn't jerk out of my hand but the dash did the same thing as yours. It would also dim the dash and turn the AC off for a few seconds. Then everything would come back on. Searching around i found a sheet saying to fix the G218 ground but couldn't find where it was. I appreciate you saving me the time of pulling the whole dash out as I would have gone that direction. I will update you on my progress. Update: Well I took the dash apart and checked the ground. Mine looked good and tight. The sound matting material was pressing the bolt but not causing a bad connection. Later the problem came back on a trip out of town. My turn signal would trigger the stabilitrack warning. I pulled over and my truck dash went totally blank and the engined died. It would not start. I found a bad ground connection at the battery. The terminal looked perfect with no corrosion. When I touched negative connection the truck power came back and the connector moved on the battery. I tightened it up and all was good. The bad ground was my issue. It was just at the battery rather than under the dash. Your video really helped with the trouble shooting of the problem. Thanks again!

update... I checked the ground point in this video and it was good to go. There was no interference from any insulation. I loosened the nut and re-tightened it anyway just to rule out that possibilty. The next day the problem came back... After looking over all my wiring under the hood, I looked at my battery. It is only about 9 months old, but since I was being thorough, I had to check it. Sure enough, the negative terminal on the battery was loose. It was on enough to allow it to start and charge, but any bump or vibration could cause it to loose connection for a split second. Which is what I believe caused all the problem shown in the video. The negative terminal nut and bolt were defective. I couldn't tighten the nut all the way and had to replace the nut and bolt. (guy from autozone installed the battery) The truck has been running great for the past two days. A good lesson for me to check the simple stuff first. Oh well... I still think this is a great video though and very helpful!

The radio in my 2014 Sierra will come on all by its self and the Volt Meter seems to run on the high side of 14 volts then it will drop to just over 9 volts. Also the truck seems to run like cr*p. I followed your instructions and found the drivers side was fine but I'm glad I checked the passenger side because the insulation was indeed crimped under the washer and nut post. I took it apart and cleaned it all up and put it all back together, so time will tell. The volt meter still was on the high side of 14 volts, however, it will settle to 14 volts but I'll re-post if there's good news on the other issues after I've driven it for a while. Thanks for your help, much appreciated. btw, my truck doesn't have all the bells and whistles, it's pretty much factory equipped.

I had the same issue as most in this thread. I got it fixed at a Chevy dealership from the recall issue involving power steering. It was fine for about a year and happened again twice except my truck completely shut off while turning left at a very slow speed. (Both occurrences after driving 4 to 6 hours straight) Next time I took it to a different Chevy dealership (since it was a recall) they told me it was only my battery nothing else and made me buy a new one from them. They didn't believe a word I said and basically acted like I was an idiot. I have my case number from speaking with corporate and don't want to sell it in fear of the next owner getting injured. 2 months after the battery replacement, which is right now, I am having issues where my battery stays at 14v once I crank it until about 10 minutes into the drive when it lowers to around 13 and remains that way for a long period of time. Randomly, it will return to 14 while driving for about 5 minutes then lower again. I'm starting to get very concerned from how terrifying my 3 experiences of complete shutoff occurred. Any ideas? Thanks to everybody who has commented earlier and thanks for the video! Sorry for the long comment.

My 2016 Sierra power steering would lock up while driving. Research showed the the same issue in the’14 and ‘15 were recalled. The dealership said the diagnostic code showed my power steering computer module needed to be replaced. $2850. I let them replace it but also, told them it was electrical and that something else would come up once that was replaced. Sure enough, right after I left the dealership(40 miles) the check engine light came on…they said it was the oil pump. 50,000 miles on the truck. I’m thinking the two of us are definitely not the only owners with these problems. They only recalled the ‘14 and ‘15 when customers complained. I wish I could get all ‘16 sierra owners, that have had these same problems, together. This is an issue GMC should take seriously.

My service stabilitrak and other related code/ ground issues were in my main harness , I had two bare skinned wires that would intermittently touch and cause havoc ,I’ve stumped 4 mechanics with this , and my truck sounds like a diesel when it is at idle and in drive , I’ve done plugs , wires , coils , throttle body , tps sensor , accelerator pedal and sensor , altenator, battery, ground cables , and my truck still runs like crap after an hour of driving, just in idle at drive , pedal was programmed, nothing mechanical can be found so I’m thinking it’s time to start looking more into the ecm

Worked for me! Thank you!!!! 2014 Sierra 1500. I waited two months after completing this repair to post this. My first issues were dimming and flickering headlamps which started around 58k miles and lasted for a month or so before I had my first issue with the power steering quitting momentarily when turning at low speed. This happened twice in a two week span. Within a day or two, driving down the highway, my dash lights started flickering and cutting out, stabilitrac error came up, power steering shutdown completely until I parked the truck. For the repair, I started by only removing the sound dampening material on the left side of the dash because I wanted to see if that's all it needed to fix the problems. I'd like to say fixing the left side fixed all of my issues. The only reason I can't be for certain is because about two weeks after the repair to the left side, I had one instance when getting out the truck that the ignition system acted strange. The radio made some kind of "electronic buzz" for a brief second and then everything returned to normal. It's fair to note here though that once every couple months my stereo speakers will buzz for 3-5 seconds when entering/exiting the vehicle. This "electronic buzz" this time was a little different but it was enough for me to pop the dash back up and complete the same repair to the right side of the dash. I've had zero electrical issues since completing the repair on both sides. I will also note, when removing my A-pillars, there was a white plastic insert that easily broke off on each side. Once I knew to be careful on the other A-pillar, I still broke it off. They didn't affect the reinstallation of those A-pillars at all. Unbolting the speaker on the right side made it much easier to cut the sound dampening material. Pulling the speaker was easy.
@AndrewMcAfee15 жыл бұрын
Months after clearing the sound dampening material from under the dash, I had this happen again 3 days ago during a low speed turn in a gas station parking lot. Steering wheel jerked, dash warning messages, then the truck died. The electrical system came right back up and I was able to restart the truck in neutral and keep going. In the past, I putting in a fresh battery has made the issue go away for several months. Yesterday I replaced the battery again, under autozone warranty, and was able to upgrade to an AGM battery. Hoping that will buy more time between issues.
@AndrewMcAfee14 жыл бұрын
Electrical cut out again for the first time since replacing the battery with a new H7-AGM battery from autozone.

@@AndrewMcAfee1 thank you for the updates. Curious, do you still own the vehicle? Have you replaced the battery many more times?
@AndrewMcAfee12 жыл бұрын
@@kathyl3918 I no longer own the vehicle. I still believe the battery is the primary culprit. Replacing the battery solved the issues for longer periods that anything else. My reasoning is something along the lines of the electrical system is just very dependent on good voltage levels and when the battery begins to sag, the electrical components dependent on it behave erratically. I’m not a mechanic though. Is just my uneducated opinion.

I have a 2014 Z71 4x4 Crew and last week it was dong the same thing after driving for several hours. I noticed that it started when I went to do a 3 point turn into a driveway that had some high gutters and the truck gave me a stabilitrak error and the lights flickered a few times and then she shut off. After a restart it all went away and was normal until I stopped again and noticed the headlights flickering in auto and full on. Thanks for sharing because I'm out of warranty due to mileage.

Was having all the same electrical issues associated with bad grounds and checked this, didn't see anything pinched so while I had it apart I went ahead and sanded and cleaned the connections on both sides, still had the issues so then I went over the entire truck and found all the grounds I could and removed, sanded and cleaned them up, still was having the issues, I read that others found the main negative ground cable on the battery was known to be an issue on many of these trucks and I must not have been alone cause it took a while to find a new one cause everyone was out of stock on it, well I finally got one and have installed it, it's a little early to say if it fixed the problem but so far I haven't had any of the issues pop up and the truck over all seems to run better, wish I had done this first but at least I know all my grounds are good and clean now.

2014 Sierra 1500 with 142k miles - symptoms were "Roll down, then up drivers window" message and one click up on drivers window did not work - had to hold button down to get window up, voltage reading just under 14 when should be just above 14, gentle dash lights flickering, left turn had temporary loss of power steering, blinker use causes cruise control to kick off, clock suddenly 47 minutes behind and yesterday the truck quit and went black while preparing to enter main roadway. I disconnected negative battery terminal for two minutes, reconnected fired up just fine. First I removed dash and cleared the rubber material from both ground posts G218 and G210 resistance codes - drivers side rubber was pinched under nut washer, just don't understand how assembler could do this at factory - the hole in the material means it goes AROUND the outside of the post, and they want a 40% raise in pay for a 32 hour work week. Started truck, still getting roll down then up window error message. Next removed, cleaned surface and ground wire end on passenger side inside wheel well, covered with heavy duty grease to prevent element deterioration. Opened hood and removed and cleaned ground post and end to firewall. Started truck, no more errors. So far so good. Prior errors included "Reduced engine speed" - code was wheel speed sensor - really GM, you're going to force me off the freeway because of a fricking wheel speed sensor issue?
