I recommend making the modes in illustrator and import it as ''retain layer size''. That way lining up is super easy.

Still works! I followed this exactly to get the scrolling slot machine text effect, then hid all the coloured boxes and moved the text closer so that it was the white text on black background, with scrolling last word, which I was originally after! Thank you for this tutorial.

Wouldn't it be easier to precompose the 3 difficulties with the res you need then use an offset effect instead of duplicating

thank you but have motion blur enabled and didn't seem to take, it moves nicely but not with motion blur...checked and rechecked all settings and are correct.. ideas

Can you explain why you say rasterizing is good for quality? I come from the Graphic Design world and as far as I’m concerned with anything Illustration, Vectors are always better for quality (except pictures of course). Is this different for video, if so why? Just curious because video and motion graphics is something I’m adding to my portfolio. Besides that question, I’d like to say this is a boss Tutorial! Thank you.

He doesn't seem to have answered you but I'm with you on this. I've been editing video for corporate and weddings for ages and I use vectors whenever possible because of the infinite resolutions and flexibility they offer!

Yes the difference between vector and raster is that one uses math to calculate end points, curves, etc. the other uses pixels and percentages. I disregarded the rasterization and kept the rest of the tutorial and it worked perfectly. If he has an answer, I'd definitely love to hear it though.

@@thomasmurphy866 Perhaps a bit late, but I was watching this now: After effects does not output vector graphics. Shape layers kinda work like vector graphics, but the output is always rasterized. What he checked off was "Continuously rasterize". School of Motion has a video on the topic, but basically what happes is that AE calculates what the rasterized image will be like based on the vector input - so it maintains the quality even you you scale it waaaay up (which would look crap with a png for example). Hopefully that makes sense lol

I haven’t watched the entire video but have you made sure your rasterization icon is on? Also, if there are comps, make sure, it is on inside the comps as well.

@@SThompsonRAMM_1203 I could be wrong but if you make the precomp compositions really thin and tall you should avoid the need for the rasterizing,. since all the shrinking is doing is ensuring that the precomp items stay on the artboard?
