Great video thanks, brings back a lot of memories as my wife and I have ridden those roads many times on old motorcycles with the VMCC.

Thanks for the nice comment. I can imagine it would be a pleasant place to explore by motorcycle. Some of the valleys have quite steep gradients too - I was a bit nervous about the route choice for my un-powered bike, but it happened to work out ok for me. Thanks for sharing your memories and for taking the time to comment.

It seems that a place of worship always arrives just when you need a picnic stop, and you seem to find some lovely ones. Cycle touring and church-going are very compatible. Another way to navigate obstacles like the narrow bridge next to the ford is to tip the bike up vertically on the back wheel, after removing panniers, and push it from behind - this brings the handlebars up clear of the sides and allows easier progress. Nice scenery on this section, and quiet roads - ideal for cycling.

I must admit that it never crossed my mind to tip the bike onto its back wheel! I'll bear that in mind in future! It's only been in the last few years that I have started exploring the churches en-route. Some of them are really nice, some really grand, some have a lot of history and some are an oasis of beauty in an otherwise drab landscape so it is a bit of a waste to hurriedly cycle past as I used to - especially when they are often provided with somewhere to sit down. Perhaps, also, I have reached a stage in my cycling career where an excuse to stop is becoming an increasingly attractive prospect!

Great stuff. That was some distance for an old boy with a wonky knee. Glad you showed some sense by walking up one or two hills. Love the filming and the comments. Happy New Year and happy cycling in 2025.

@@essextrails Thank you. This was a lovely ride and it was quite easy to get some nice shots - hard not to really! Thanks for the good wishes: I wish you the same in return!

That was spectacular i thought we had some great moorland in the peak district but that was breath taking. I suppose with the bad knee you won`t be attempting the Pennine bridleway again at any time ?.

@@johnm-wv6bo Yes, it was a really good day's ride over the moors and other landscapes, and it was helped so much by the near perfect weather. The whole of my westward ride brought me through a range of interesting and varied landscapes including some spectacular ones - not all of which were as easy to film as this one, but I've done my best as I hope you will see in the other videos when they are ready. I haven't given up hopes of completing the Pennine Bridleway. I would have gone back to it in the late summer but I read that the next section tended to be soggy, and we had just had a lot of very heavy rain so I decided to do road routes instead this autumn. I hope to be able to try some more of it next summer; the knee won't help so maybe I will have to do even more pushing. Thanks for your lovely comment! It's always nice to hear that people have enjoyed my efforts.

@@RAsadventures-zr1ge Love all your videos never trying to make it look more spectacular than it is like some do. Been thinking of doing the PBW for the last 3 years but for one reason or another never get there, need to stop making excuses and just do it.

@johnm-wv6bo That's very nice of you to say that! I certainly enjoyed my attempt on the PBW, so I'd encourage you to set off and have a go at it if you can.
