He is very much a populist. The major thing he used to win his election was fear, hatred, lies and false promises. His programme didn't have anything of substance, nothing to actually vote for besides big buzzwords being thrown against opposition.

Don´t put accusatory labels on a man that's just been shot. He might be controversial but please don't paint a picture of a man you have never seen. Abolition of RTVS (broadcaster) was not intended, rather rebranding and firing ideology driven journalists through changes in the process of nomination into Television council that has been very ideologically biased and caused the broadcast to be unobjective. He had nothing to do with the killing of the young journalist and his girlfriend, private anti-government media created that conspiracy and fed it to the foreign public providing zero evidence for it. In fact, the murder is likely linked to a mafia boss, who threatened the journalist for writing revealing articles about him, still nothing was proved there either.

The mafia boss is also linked to Fico and his party, you failed to mention... and the abolition of RTVS was very much an intended move. The move was to replace the board of directors with "their people." Now, any leading political party will have majority control over what is broadcasted. The current minister of culture is living in Austria, is about as smart as a pile of rocks and has had more people sign a petition against her than have actually voted for her. Her party barely scraped by into the parliament and yet they get to decide what gets shown on TV? Ridiculous and not democratic.
