I have painted many ceilings and I have learned the best color white to use is what house painters call "ceiling white." It a flat, very white paint, and I have always felt that no matter what the walls were -- wood, pastel colors or dark colors -- everything goes with it. It reflects light without any glare, and it does not compete with any other colors. You forget it is there and just enjoy the lightness it brings to the room. I tried in the very beginning of my decorating years a creamier color, and it always seemed a bit dirty, like it is due for a repaint because it had yellowed with age. You will, however, need a stain covering primer on that wood. We have a product here in the U.S. called "Kills" that blocks all the stains or oils that will otherwise bleed through. I am sure the store that sells your paint will be able to advise you on what primer to use. Don't skip this step no matter what white you choose. Whatever you do, do not paint it a shiny color. It will reflect all sorts of colors and make the whole ceiling distracting. I love the wood, but if it was my place, I would paint the ceiling, too. So my choice is B.

Rather than a straight paint finish, do a white wash effect which will lighten your rooms but also allow the woodgrain to show through as well. You can take your paint and make it thinner (using paint thinner and I believe there are several ways to create the white wash effect) to be a whitewash. I would go with the creamier color rather than the bright white - less harsh and softer.

Yes whitewash is a good idea in principle but it doesn't work well if the wood is quite dark. Because the base colour shines through it can create very odd shades. I've been doing paint finishes professionally for many years and had to explain that to clients many a times.

If you white wash, you would have to sand down the ceiling completely and I don’t think you want to do that is my guess. It wouldn’t give the same “lighten up the room”effect.

I would for sure use 'C'. From my experrience , cream is much cozier and gives a warm glow in winter while pure white really gets cold and bluish in northern winters . And in a satin finish , not shiny or flat . Satin reflects light with a mellow sheen and flat feels flat and shiny is pretty awful .❤

I know it might be challenging but perhaps using some of the color on the trim behind you at time stamp 20:53 along with the C option. Maybe a few strips of that trim color as accents or make a rectangle on the ceiling in one room for a pop of color? Or leave some very thin strips of wood visible? Or paint some sections the cream, then the trim color then leave a few spaces wood. Tossing out some ideas. Each room's ceiling could have a different design. Perhaps even stenciling some beautiful designs on the ceiling. I know lots of work involved but ceilings don't have to be all one color.

Kalle. With that small drop in your creek you could install a small ram pump(no electricity needed) to push water to your cabin, and with a elevated tank have gravity feed water in the cabin

I like B as well for the ceiling colour. One tip for the mint in the garden; it WILL go past the edges of the garden bed. Mint grows via rhizomatic roots which means it puts out roots underground and pops up in other places. My advice would be to dig it up and put it in pots. Try to make sure to get all the pieces of root as well or it will grow back. When I went back to school for horticulture a few years ago that was the first thing our instructor said about mint in a garden. She also said if you really want your mint to look like it's in the ground keep it in a pot and put the pot into the ground to prevent it from taking over the entire yard.

Yes, yes, completely agree with you @DragonflyenAmber (nice pansy or viola earth guardian picture btw☺). Mint is very invasive and that will so quickly and easily spread out into the forest!! This is an easy mistake to make and when they sell it, it should come with a warning label as It should NEVER be planted in the ground. It needs to be In a pot inside or on your doorstep. If you put the pot on the ground the roots will grow out of the hole in the base of the pot and down into the ground. Be mindful to dig thoroughly and ensure you get all the runners as soon as possible please Kalle. ☺ Yet another fantastic video, these videos are pure therapy! I would give almost anything to live in Sweden, thankyou so much, from Australia. Oh and I vote C, the warm undertone will pair with the warm wood and will give a warmer feel to the room.

For the ceiling paint, I would vote for B snow white. The creamy option C is also nice, but it might not be the right shade of cream for your cabin (hard to tell from video!). I would avoid a shiny ceiling, so not A. A glare off the ceiling could get annoying.

I vote C (the cream white). You will be amazed at how bright the room gets when you are done. My sister had a similar situation in her house (all dark wood - ceiling, walls, and floor). It is hard to think about someone covering up that beautiful wood, but it sure made a positive difference in her house. We have more winter months than summer here in Wisconsin too, so whatever it takes to get more light in...do it! Great video Kalle!

I like the C option. The wood is old and may carry layers of smoke and dust, so you will need to put a sealing product on before painting. We have a product called Kilz here in the US. By putting the sealing coat on first, it will eliminate bleed through and you will need less paint.

You should be able to get paint in Matte, Satin, Gloss and High Gloss, no matter what shade. I agree with other commenters on the off-white. From personal experience having painted a non-sheetrock ceiling where we used a high gloss paint, I have to say, the paint has held up the 24 years that we have lived here and it still looks brand new. High Gloss also reflects light the best. Our ceilings are mostly 7ft (210 cm) because tall people live in houses with low ceilings 🙄😂🤣. Love the husky bike set-up too. I have two Great Pyrenees girls and thought about getting a pony cart. Unfortunately they are too busy barking and too lazy to pull a cart 🤣🤣.

I vote for Snow White. Your stove is producing some smoke when you open it to reload your wood, that will set off to your ceiling. That will cause some discolour as well. In the end it will turn out more creamy. I think it will save you painting more often. I think she will love you anyway, despite your mess.

I vote for Cream white! I think the pure white (option B) might be a little to stark compared to all the other warm tones in the cabin. And option A is too shiny. I always go with matte finishes 😊. You should hold the cream white sample up next to the colour you have on your doorframes and baseboards to make sure the colours jive well together. At least that’s what I would do 😊. I just don't have terribly strong feelings about any of the the paint colors, since I understand the sheer practicality, but think either B or C would be lovely (don't tempt me, I'll say, "Do lilac! or "'Beachglass Blue' would be perfect!" haha)..but...watching Nala and Tuss so happily and effortlessly pull you along on your bike was the absolutely most magical and wondrous thing I have seen in a very long time! What an amazing experience you must have had; being conveyed behind those two, so happy to do what they love. Just amazing to watch. The teamwork...gorgeous.

I totally understand the lack of storage! My husband, 6 month old daughter, and I live in a small apartment and we try to keep things minimal but I feel like it can even be hard to find space for the necessities! I’ve found with my husband and I it’s not that either of us is very dirty, but we value the cleanliness of different things. For example I always focus on the bathrooms and do laundry while my husband always sweeps and mops the floors and does the dishes. It works out pretty well in keeping the place clean! It’s good that you recognize your partner values the cleanliness and you try to keep up with it as I’m sure she does similar things for you :). And I vote for C for the paint!

You have this white chest of drawers in your living room. I guess it has most likely a snowwhite colour. So you can see how this shade is working in your room already. I think a similar tone would fit best, repetition in colours in one room creates calm and harmony. So I vote for B.

I tend to plant one spice in each container. And let them spread and go to seed. More likely for them to come back. Mulch heavy in your lower temps. You can use fallen leaves and pine needles to mulch. It doesn’t have to be fancy. And don’t cut the plant back until spring. The little bugs will live in them over winter.

I love it and strongly support the decision. I did the same in my cabin. It made a huge difference to paint the dark wooden ceiling. I opted for a very light clear, more off-white. The shiny one felt too modern, and the pure white felt like a hospital or a government building. I am delighted with the off-white hinting at cream just slightly, it is great for brightening up the space, increasing the amount of light in the room, and still showcasing a cozy and inviting ambiance. Hi Kalle, I vote for C. I think the creamy color will pick up on the tones in the surrounding wood nicely giving a brighter warmth to the room. You could also “white wash” instead of fully paint the ceilings. I’ve done this on brick and wood and the results were really nice giving me the color I wanted with a bit of the character of the wood grain coming through. It’s a beautiful cabin so I believe whatever you choose will look lovely!

Hello Kalle! I just found your video and started watching. I have only reached 4 minutes so far but I wanted to write before I forget: Your lovely mint plant will not accept the restriction of that box :) You will probably find it growing outside the box next year too. I suggest you take it out as long as it is still little and plant it in a container instead. Make sure it can't reach out through the holes in the container. Believe me, I talk from experience. I know everyone is saying C, But with the rest of the cabin being wood it will be warm and cosy no matter what you put on. Also note that the knots in the wood will bleed through, unless you put a few coats of primer. Also you will need to decide if you want full coverage ( which will take a few coats, or a lime wash look finish. Having said all that, a ceiling with some shine is actually very effective in bouncing light around in a dark room! Good luck!

I vote for B! It's the brightest and will brighten the atmosphere the best I think. I wouldn't go for the shiny as it clashes with natural wood and the creamy is a bit dull in my opinion. Get a bucket, fecth the water, put the clothes in the water and add washing powder (if bar soap, then rub it around the clothes) and leave them in for a few minutes. Then wash after. I grew up actually hand washing. I used to hate it, then loved it.

B or C. B will look good in summer and winter. It will brighten the space and make it look fresh/ modern. It has good nuetral undertones. C is good because it’s in the same color tone as the green door etc. it will mesh well but it will have more of an old fashion feel to it. It’s going to pull yellow with the light in there.

I kefir the first one - more reflectivity- but an architect friend taught me a trick: if you have just the very smallest amount of lavender added to white it will give great depth to the white - and you might think of it as an “optical illusion”. You will see the wall or ceiling as only white when finished!
