Slow Cooker Rice Pudding | Old Food Guy Loved It

Today i try and make rice pudding for the first time in a slow cooker.

Good girl Nat..the nutmeg is a true and tested flavour for rice pud..my Mum finished the cooking in a traditional oven..for the baked skin..💐great vlog..💕..I do have to add..I'm in me 70's..so me Mum wouldn't have had access to a slow cooker..😯

I love rice pudding and that looks lovely, I think most people's preference is just how their mum used to make it, I like skin so love it in the oven and I use Carnation milk instead of cream, only flavouring I add is nutmeg, I still have the old fashioned style ceramic pudding bowl to cook it in which my mum used almost every Sunday for decades. We would never have jam in rice pudding but we always had a dollop of jam in semolina pudding which I also love, but we'd quite often have rice pudding served with a slice of freshly baked apple pie which is lovely too, good job though!

Hi Nat just watched your video having had a heads up from the live stream today 😄😄😄. Now it all makes sense when Keith loved it so much. One of the best puddings for the cold weather. Great job on a rice pudding well cooked. Top tip if you like a thick brown skin ( which I love) dot over more butter and put under a hot grill for the last 5 minutes as you rightly stated🎉🎉🎉. Looked great. We always had raspberry jam if we could afford it and syrup if we couldn't hahahaha or pouring peach juice over the pudding from the peach tin 😂😂😂 Congratulations on your anniversary, not many people are so dedicated these days I think hahahaha 😅 Looking forward to seeing the bake offs 😉😀

Rice pudding's top, Nats👍. Vanilla extract's better than essence 'cos it's real vanilla, but essence is a chemical flavouring. I also like to make it with coconut milk, and a few cardamom seeds...lush, mate🤤.

That looks great Nat, I've only ever had it made in the oven when mum did it in the 80s but the slow cooker is a great idea! Definitely going to try it if I can find pudding rice in the shops 👍🏻

I make my rice pudding using coconut milk, which is delissh, and a great way to start the day as breakfast. Top tip for anyone who's into the weights at the gym - if you can't afford supplements, then have a tin of rice pudding a couple of hours before hitting the gym. Great way to carb up in advance - I like to add peanut butter into mine for added protein.
