i was alone in sweden for 2 months last year may-june. i fell in love. such a beautiful and safe country! people are reserved and seem unfriendly but are actually very friendly when you talk to them. everyone i met in sweden were super nice! i did have to learn a few things tho. like NOT sitting next to someone on the bus if there were empty window seats available.
@Asa...S6 ай бұрын
So happy you enjoyed Sweden! You chose a great time to visit! Yeah, we're a bit reserved, but yeah, I think most of us is quite friendly. Like if someone ask for directions, we will make sure they get where they need to be, and wish that you enjoy your stay, but if you're standing around with a map, most people wouldn't approach you and be like "Do you need directions? I can help", because to us that feels a bit pushy, and insinuating that you're not managing on your own. So some might feel that we're rude, because we don't offer help, but to us it's hard to offer help, not because we don't want to help, but because we assume you don't want help. To me as a Swede it's so strange that anyone would prefer sit right next to a stranger, if there is an empty seat somewhere else. Like wouldn't anyone think it's so much better to get your own seat with no one next to you, not having to feel the heat from their body on you, or perhaps even sitting so close that they their arms or legs touch you. To me it's hard to grasp that this "not sit next to someone" is a Swedish thing, and not an everywhere thing, because that's so rooted in me to go and sit on the seat furthest away from others.
@michaelkarnerfors95456 ай бұрын
It is not that we are unfriendly, we _respect your privacy_ . Yeah, being out and about, you are considered to be in _private space_ . Why? Because of the weather and climate. We Swedes are cooped up with each other, indoors, for more than half the year! No elbow space, no self-time. So, when we finally get out of the house - or office - that becomes our private space, our downtime. That is why we limit casual socialising to _social_ venues, and the rest is private time. This is also why you can approach a swede and ask for directions and similar, because that is non-personal, it is not socialising.
@funkmachine90946 ай бұрын
not sure how safe it is anymore. it depends where you go. i live in a "problematic area" and it's not always safe. also the shootings and explosions that's happening all the time now days has changed this innocent image of sweden maybe it's safe if you go up north to smaller cities but in the bigger cities there's a lot of bad things happening. sweden is not what it use to be
@Potatwielder6 ай бұрын
Who tf would be a tourist in for example rinkeby? The more touristy areas are almost always perfectly safe (pickpocketers can be common, but thats normal).
