I used to kinda admire off-the-grid type folks, with stuff like documentaries of Independent people growing corn up in Alaska, until I realized, it's all bullshit. It's always been bullshit. They have internet, they have a camera crew with the documentary types, they at the bare minimum have contact to the outside world. You know what all of this is? Surrogate activity.
