Nice video. But for our information, the ghosting we see is due to your camera's refresh rate recording. Your camera captures multiple frame rates of each device each time it shoots, but because it is too close to the 120hz, 144hz and 165hz screens, it captures each time one whole frame of the device and then a very small fraction of the next frame. If you look at the 90hz screen, it doesn't ghost/blur that much for two reasons. Firstly, its frame rate almost matches with the camera frame rate, so it is mostly 1 frame per 2 frames captured. (as the other have about 1,5 frames per 2 shooting frames or 1,8 frames per 2 frames.) And secondly, the camera's frame rate is much higher than the phone's display so it has more time to take than clean shot. For accurate ghosting testing, I would recommend using a higher frame rate camera. Try capturing the 165hz display with the Galaxy S21 Ultra's 240fps slow mo recording or with its 960fps super slow mo. You will see a significant improvement in ghosting.
@kelbinhow3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, everytime it comes to talk about a screen's refresh rate, EVERYTHING needs to be in sync. Same to say that there's no point in buying a 240Hz monitor for your PC when your graphics card can only run games at 60fps. This applies to camera capture as well. Doesn't matter if you have a 180fps slow-mo camera, 180fps is too "poor" to do this kind of precise testing. We need this test with a much higher FPS count, a true super slow-mo.

@kelbinhow3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, adaptive refresh rate would be the best of both worlds, battery and screen smoothness. Put it in 1FPS when it detects no change, for example when you are scrolling through Facebook or Instagram or messaging someone and suddenly stop to talk to someone or just have a look around, the smartphone would detect that the screen is "paused" and thus also pause the refresh rate, kind of locking it at 1FPS. When the system detects a new update in the pixels of the screen, then it would reactivate the 120FPS (or whatever settings you put). All that dynamically, on the fly.

That means it is adaptive, it can work at either frequency (or anything in between, given you have an input capable of doing so, like a PC that can do 90hz i.e.). Now, if by saying "adaptive" you mean "switching the frequency on the go, without the screen going black or flash for a sec" then maybe OLED could indeed be the only one to do it, because even though my TV can work in 60hz or 120hz, everytime I want to make that change, it needs a couple seconds to "change it", cutting to full black and then back on. An interesting fact is that a higher FPS does not improve visibility in more aggressive games, but also reduces the touch response time for each frame, making the touch control more agile and responsive when in high FPS.
@FlameFoxBrasil4 ай бұрын
Let's take an example that your cell phone works at 10 fps. Every second it updates 10 times. So the cell phone becomes unresponsive at 0.099s. As soon as it reaches 0.1ms it renders the tactile response and makes the result of the other frame oppositely. if your cell phone works at 100FPS. the response delay from one screen to another reduces to 0.010ms. as the RPF (response per frame) delay is lower. the device renders tactile use much more quickly. we noticed this on the iphone. that even when dragging slowly, the finger goes up faster than the screen. why doesn't the low fps respond fast enough to keep up with the speed of the finger?

6:49 i myself am a competitive bullet force player and a official in game mod and I can definitely confirm that high refresh rates have a huge impact on the gameplay, i used to play on a 5th gen iPad but switched to a xiaomi mi 10t a few months ago where I started playing at 90hz and i moved on to 144hz last month. 1 thing i noticed tho is that the jump back from 144hz to 90hz for some reason isn't as big as the jump from 90hz to 60hz which makes the game deal terribly choppy now I'm used to 90/144hz.
@rudeviper3 жыл бұрын
Same applies to laptops. I was Using a 60 hz ultrabook before and for my deep learning course I switched to a gaming laptop with Linux with rtx 2060. Man that 144 Hz spoiled me not for gaming but just navigating through while ui. Then I decided to not go back. I can work with battery life disadvantages and slightly bulky design but boy that looks awesome with its RGB asthetics. And most of the time I am using it on a desk so keeping it in power is not a big deal. But sacrificing performance , smoothness , and no compromise experience is not something I wanna miss.

Try putting your 165hz monitor in 60hz mode and you will change it back immediately. On the phone you just don't need 120hz the same way as you do when gaming on a PC.

having used everything from 60 to 144hz, i can say one thing, 120hz+ oled with a higher resolution display would be most ideal the difference between 60 to 90 is very noticeable, similar with 60/90 to 120 but the jump from 120 to 144 hz is barely noticeable so it really isn't required as of 2024 standards, 120hz is the best, if u want a noticeable bump from 120hz, u need refresh rates of around 200+ else it hardly makes a difference

@@Subhranil. Most high graphics games that run higher than 60Hz have unstable FPS in general and some of them needs to drop the graphics settings, the phones heat up a lot more, discharge a lot faster. I don't think gaming at more than 60 Hz on a phone is a good idea, we're not talking about desktop PCs here, you're not plugged into the wall all the time with big fans or watercooling for the case, CPU and GPU.
