Slow Virtualization On Windows 11 VMware Workstation Fix

Commands:

Was trying to setup a copy of macOS and it was so sluggish, that I couldn't do anything with it. Noticed that it was also slowing down my host. Disabling the memory integrity check in the core isolation settings fixed it for me. Never thought about that, so thanks.

Perfect! After updating to Windows 11, version 24H2 the speed of virtual machines became unbearable. With the first command (bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off) all is back to normal. Thank you!

Thanks! For me Install VM Tools helped and doesnt needed to turn off core iso. It was unusable before installing those tools.

Not really on topic Brian but if one sets up a virtual machine when you then scrap it does anything you have done on it get deleted from the harddrive?

The OS runs in like a container, those files will be removed once deleted.

hello. Im pulling a leg cause im stucked. I'm not new to VMW, I've set up a few machines over the years. Now when I try to install Win ME to be able to play some old games I get the information that "the program is too big for the memory" which causes the installation to break before I get to the actual installation. I've searched for answers online but as I said, I'm pulling a leg here. Anyone know anything that might help me to sort the memory vs disc problem for win me? Tia

Hi Brian, this is good to know and save since I think it's fair to say we've all had issues with VMWare over the years. Only problem I have at the moment is with my Surface Pro the sound on VMWare is extremely laggy and jittery. Yet it's fine on all my other PCs and VirtualBox works fine on the Surface. Do you think any of these methods would resolve VMWare sound issues on the Surface or do you have any other tips for resolving that? I've googled this issue a few times and struggled finding any info on potential fixes.

Thanks Brian, mine is running better now. Another issue: I have tried several times to install the NVIDIA Drivers on my VMWare (Ver 17 Workstation Player) UBUNTU 22.04 VM. There are no errors and it seems to install, but when I look at Additional Drivers, there only one I see is the standard VMWare SVGA II Adapter. And the message shows: No Proprietary Drivers in use. Any ideas on this one or do you have a video for this? Thanks in advance.

Seems normal to me. Inside a VM, it's not your physical graphics card; it's a VMware emulated one. Therefore, you'll need the VMware tools driver not the nvidia ones.

There are virtualization acceleration instructions built into modern processors. And you can enable or disable them in your BIOS/UEFI settings. For AMD Processors it's called AMD-V or SVM Mode for Intel processors it's called VT. Wouldn't enabling those speed up your VM also?

Hi Brian. It would be great to see a comparison between VMware Workstation and Oracle VirtualBox. I currently use VirtualBox, but with VMware now at the same cost, free, I would switch to VMware if the performance is better. Thanks!

@@jameslong3351 - NOTE: After install, do not run, install the extension pack first! Also, if installing Linux Mint, before you run Mint, go to settings, choose: Storage, mint.vdi If your computer has an SSD drive, then check: Solid-State Drive.
