Slowdive has been my favorite band since I was a young teen obsessed with Gregg Araki movies and shoegaze music. They weren't together anymore by the time I started listening, so I always assumed I would never see them live. Years later, they got back together and I saw them in Portland. IMHO - With one song they smashed the whole shoegaze revival of the last few years and show any NewGaze band just how it's done. Like they've never been gone or different after Souvlaki. Yes, it's simple, it's not very complex. But it's the most beautiful melody I heard since Souvlaki Space Station. And it got me with ease. I didn't expect this at all. I was afraid they would die trying too hard to get their sound to the here and now. But they just f**kin nailed it. Hands down.
