Buddy was the first guitarist I heard that played super fast with feeling if he wanted to. Jimi Hendrix used to go watch him play as often as he could. The song I first heard him go off on was The First Time I Met The Blues. The video with the ghetto scenes. Chilling guitar. Buddy was nice to me along with Jr Wells when I met them backstage long ago. Blues people are good people.

I love the way Buddy almost quotes the original Guitar Slim solo, and then it's like a dam bursts and off he goes. I think someone counted 83 notes in two measures in one of his live performances of this song. This is the Buddy that electrified people in the Chicago blues clubs before he got famous.

A little known fact. The piano player for Guitar Slim , who first recorded this song was a young Ray Charles.So many artists have re-recorded this great blues song. Buddy Guy does a very good version of Slim's classic song

I've heard Jimmy Hendrix play something similar to this.
@memeguaia8 жыл бұрын
Do you have the link of that?
@fenderblues17448 жыл бұрын
meme guaia No, I have it on a Jimmy Hendrix tape somewhere, I think the tape was some of Jimmy's unreleased songs, one of the first tapes to be released, it wasn't the same song but the lead playing is very similar, on the tape I think Jimmy said it was electric church. Ive just located the tape while I'm writing this. The tape is called Jimi Hendrix: blues, and yes the song track is called Electric Church. Here's a list of whats on the tape. Hear My Train Commin'(Acoustic guitar. Born Under a Bad Sign. Red House. Catfish Blues. Voodoo Chile Blues. Mannish Boy. Once I had a Woman. Bleeding Heart. Jelly 292. Electric Church this runs into Red House again. Hear My Train a Cummin' (Electric Guitar) Because of the recording quality of these songs they weren't allowed out at that time. I got used to them and I love them. Hope this helps.

This is swell old tune. Always makes me emotional and my eyes well up. Buddy is great on guitar as usual, but I'm never a big fan of his singing and the theatrical improvisations he often incorporates into his singing. His singing was very ordinary here and actually hurt the song somewhat.
