Your work it’s so crips, clean, filled with love and truly inspiring. I’m actually in love with vintage clothing and baby clothing and finding your channel will ruin me monetary lol but I’m learning so much and I’m definitely sewing for my unborn babies from now on 🥹

I love these videos, not just for the sewing content, but for the memories they evoke of the days when I was trying to sew for my two babies (both married with children now) and had an ADHD boy running amok with his more peaceful sister trying to "help". Sewing for grandchildren is easier...they aren't here most of the time.

You make it look so easy!!! Do you have a suggestion for how many yards of lace to order to make a dress like this?
@sarahclassicsewing3 жыл бұрын
Hahaa thank you! And lots and lots 😘 you need to figure out how full you want your skirt, and then it's easy math from there. Make sure to include any lace you want to put on the sleeves and around the neckline. You can measure your sleeve pattern piece for that yardage, and for the neckline, drape your measuring tape around and get an eyeball mark.

This is my dream dress and now that I have a granddaughter it's time. I do not have a lace shaping board and they are no longer made. I do have a smocking block so can I use it? How do I determine where to start for the size I need? I will need a size 3-4.
@sarahclassicsewing Жыл бұрын
you may be able to get away with your smocking block, not really sure what that is, but here are some board options. already made: www.amazon.com/dp/B0018N28PS?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzsarah0fa-20&creativeASIN=B0018N28PS&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.1Q90F5LMA5DFW&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin and I have this pdf if you want to make one instead: sarahclassicsewing.com/collections/pdf-instant-downloads/products/the-diy-smocking-blocking-board

hey there, thanks so much. I've got a couple things, not sure what materials you have yet, but this outlines that sarahclassicsewing.wordpress.com/2017/03/03/entering-into-the-world-of-classic-and-heirloom-sewing/ And then I'd say just start and you'll learn along the way. I've got a couple of videos that go over that, kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3u9mHill9F2mrs And I'm happy to answer questions :-)Enjoy the ride

What is the brand of your sewing machine?
@sarahclassicsewing5 жыл бұрын
my work horse is the a4 model by jack - I have a whole playlist talking about the machine. then I have a bernina (it's on its last leg and I plan to replace it with a pfaff passport) to do zigzag and other nonstraight stitches.

The bodice of the dress is just 45 inches? The puffing is 90 inches? How do I get pattern for sleeve?
@sarahclassicsewing5 жыл бұрын
can't remember exactly... I did the lace shaping, and then used a 1:2 ratio between the lace length and the fabric length. Then the puffing is two strips of the fabric from selvage to selvage... which is about 120" for this fabric. sleeve is linked below, etsy.me/2G7UFmG. thanks!

sure thing, i would attach it to your ironing board or something so you can still pin into it

Where did i lose you?
@elizabethchandler45735 жыл бұрын
@@sarahclassicsewing honestly the moment you cut the shape. did you use the same template to cut the whole that you used for the sleeve? and how does the sleeve attatch?
@sarahclassicsewing5 жыл бұрын
Okay so at 12:39... that curve to the upper left hand side of the screen is the underarm curve. I am going to use this curve to cut the underarm area out of the skirt, too. And then I'm going to sew the sleeve together along the small 3" straight section at 12:39, and then attach the sleeve to the skirt via that same underarm curve. Then that gradual slope at the top of the screen at 12:39 is going to get gathered along with the top of the skirt. Make more sense?

I just think how much people pay for a store bought wedding gown and those are usually far less work, and far less comfortable..
