It surprises me that it doesn’t happen more often. With these pro skateboarders do is extremely dangerous. Navigating a bail from giant handrails and ledges is near impossible for average people.

@BoulderBoulder_ doesn't matter if it's done in different events, Joslin always does a Big Flip, Nyjah always does a Front Side Flip to rail, Yuto always does a Full Cab to rail, everyone has their signatures, a Tre Blunt on a 15 set should be scoring higher. Watch the qualifier and you’ll see that they didn’t make it to the final, it’s not like the championship of all events is an invitational lol they have to beat everyone else and progress through the qualifier just like most of these finalists did. Unless of course you’re like Felipe and got autoqualified due to previous performance and whatnot.

Do you think skaters will ever change their minds and start wearing helmets or will they continue to not want to go against Skate culture? I would love to see everyone wearing helmets from now on. As we all saw, this fall could’ve easily killed Jhanka. I really hope he recovered fully and won’t have any lasting effects from this😢.

This is like saying people should wear full protective gear when they participate in a mosh pit at a concert, it takes away from the culture, the spirit of the sport, and often times I imagine a helmet would actually make doing some of these tricks more difficult since all these skaters are so used to not having a strap around their chin and a massive shell on their head. There are some skaters that wear helmets, most of the youngins typically do which is nice to see. Obviously we don’t want to see people get hurt but I think it’s important to respect their right to choose and to respect their commitment to the culture. I wouldn’t judge anyone for wearing a helmet, but I think making it *mandatory* is not the right choice as it’s literally called “street league” not “organized safe skating league”. This was founded and run by the skaters, who want to maintain the culture and brutalness of street skating.

We had a near death event with Jhanka plus Liz Akama, Chloe and Coco had arm injuries, all of it on the 15 stair rail. Is that what contest skateboard is about now? Either you risk death or you can't win? Time to reconsider your course choices SLS. It's estatistically probable for a serious injury or death to happen with rails that size.

Plus the way they judge pushes the skaters to the largest obstacles, and you can see the discomfort in some of them. That’s the thing about skateboarding competitions, though. You are trying to put expression in a box. It’s always someone’s interpretation of skateboarding. I personally don’t think that risking your life necessarily makes a trick better…
