Thanks for watching! I recorded this during Austria's lockdown, so I didn't have access to a modern piano to play the described modern practice example. I could only show the correct articulation using my fortepiano. Unfortunately, KZbin doesn't allow making additions to posted videos. You might find it interesting to listen to modern piano recordings - while following along with the Urtext version of the score - to see if they observe the articulation markings.

The historical sources are somewhat contradictory about the differences between ‘dot’ and ‘dash’ staccato markings. Some say dots are shorter, while others say dashes are shorter. It boils down to playing notes detached. How detached? That depends on the affect of the music - for example, whether it's a 'lighter' allegro, or a 'heavier' adagio - and the impact on expression.
