Alone in the night On a dark hill With pines around me Spicy and still, And a heaven full of stars Over my head, White and topaz And misty red; Myriads with beating Hearts of fire That aeons Cannot vex or tire; Up the dome of heaven Like a great hill, I watch them marching Stately and still, And I know that I Am honored to be Witness Of so much majesty.

this was my favorite song we ever sang in choir. i was lucky to be someone playing a wine glass, it was such a magical experience. during the performance our choir teacher almost cried (i wanna say it was right after the chorus before the “i know i am honored” part) i’ll never forget that moment

A wonderful piece of music, like a dream. 🎵🎶 It sounds like freedom between the stars, like weightless flying....🦅 And the singers are perfect! Listening to it is a pleasure for a musician like me! Thank you for sharing! ❤

I was in the Assembly Hall when you performed this for the ACDA conference (Esenvalds was present!), and this was the most singularly stunning performance I've ever heard! The sound just washed over us, and left us all transformed! Thank you!

In my last year of highschool, we have sang some incredible pieces. Eho (a song that you can’t even find on KZbin), lamentations of Jeremiah, worlds above and water night… and this piece. This piece brings out the true beauty of what a choir can do. A choir can move people to feel things just through their voices. Just through harmonic and rhythmic sound. I find it amazing

This is one of the most stunning choral performances I've ever heard, and I've heard the Vienna Boys Choir sing at the Hofburg palace! Thank you so much for posting it where we can all enjoy it.

Absolutely magical. I loved this piece the first time I heard it on BBC Radio 3 - what a piece of luck to be tuned in at the right time. I am struck by the expression on the woman's face, front row to the left of the conductor at 4:16 - she seems completely caught up in the awe and wonder of it, and summarises how I feel about it too.

What a magnificently wonderful song, love how they bring in the night's sky and the observatories in to really bring the meaning of the piece to life! Really curious about the 26 people that logged on, watched the whole thing or a bit, and felt the need to down vote this majestic performance lol...

"...[W]hen God’s ineffable majesty is made known, all intellectual and sensible things will be encompassed by him. It is like the light from the stars. The stars do not shine in the day. When the greater and incomparable light of the sun appears, they are hidden and cannot be seen by the senses. With respect to God this is even more so, for God is infinite, and uncreated things cannot be compared to created things." Confessor, Saint Maximus . On The Cosmic Mystery of Jesus Christ (Popular Patristics Series Book 25) (p. 33). St. Vladimir's Seminary Press. Kindle Edition.
