Great review! This is one of my favorite platformers ever. It might be mostly due to my childhood memories, but I still think it's easy enough for newcomers to learn while being somewhat of a challenge and having enough of its own identity to stand out for veterans of the genre (like me). I wish they'd make an animated series about these characters.

Sly is amazing! Sly and Voodoo Vince are easily my favorite platformers from the 6th generation.

Voodoo Vince is right up there now. I actually beat it just yesterday. I loved every minute of it. The final boss is easily one of my favorites ever.

+grillchirre It really is a great game, I can't speak for the sequels, but I played through the entire game in a single sitting. Few games can hold my attention for 7 straight hours :)

I had this in my PS2 collection, but then the console stopped playin' my games and I had to go to PS3. I plan on gettin' the Sly collection one day, the second is my fave and third is average. For now, I've got the latest Sly game, Thieves in Time. The first Sly game is fun, I beat it only 5 days.

+Doyal Meadows Thieves in Time was a pack-in for the PlayStation TV, which is how i was introduced to the series strangely enough :)

This was recorded on the framemeister right? Curious since I am interested in picking one up for myself. As for the game, I love it to death, and Sly 2. Sly 3 and 4 aren't as good in my opinion.

Yep, this was deinterlaced and upscaled using a Framemeister. I have all 4 games but have only ever beat the first game, need to revisit the rest of the series. Cheers!

Cool choice. The first sly was my first platinum on PS3. A little frustrating at times but nothing too crazy. Aside from beating levels the platinum is pretty much a collect fest.

Awesome, AWESOME series!! I remember them very fondly, although the sequels were even better, in my opinion. Nonetheless, the greatness of the first Sly cannot be diminished.

Nice! The first Sly is far and away the best. I would've said its biggest flaw is its variety stages--they're all so awful. Some of the twin-stick levels are tolerable, that's about it. A shame, since the main game is so excellent.

+SuperGolemio The alternate game types were hit and miss for me. I found the level where you had to drive over piranhas and light torches to be exceptionally tedious!

Personally, I can agree with you on the one-hit deaths. The sequels would become much better once they switched the design to an open-world design and added a life bar. However, I disagree with you a lot about the platforming. I've played this game on both the PS2 and its PS3 rerelease on The Sly Collection and I can tell you I did not encounter any instances of unresponsiveness one bit. I think it may be because of your near lack of platforming skill. For example, at 1:58, I could tell you were clearly way off of hitting that platform which is why your circle button move wouldn't trigger. Other than that criticism, I like your review of this game. I can't wait to see you review the other games.
