Interesting perspective on Forces. I have no idea how, but according to my Switch I spent over 300 hours in Sonic Forces, so I guess it could be said I like it? I find it to be a bit mediocre, 7 years later. It's not necessarily bad, as like most people most levels leave me wanting more, rather than thinking what I played was terrible. Something like "Sonic Forces Reimagined" is what the game needs as it greatly expands upon the existing levels so that they last around 2 minutes rather than 30 seconds or 1 minute. It's an odd thing to compare to other Sonic games that I feel fell on their faces but had more ambition than Forces. Something like Secret Rings or Shadow 2005 surely have more problems than Forces but they also aimed way higher than this game, which is a bit of a contradiction because Forces also somewhat aims high with the Eggman conquest plot and the avatar being implemented. it's just that Shadow and Secret Rings fell short because they implemented their ideas incorrectly while Forces disappointed because it didn't try as hard as it should have. But hey, if your controversial take is that it's good, my controversial take is that it's better than Colors lol. In many ways, it is Sonic Colors 2 even.

thank you for this. Forces isn't my favorite sonic game or anything but for a long time it seemed like i was the only person on the planet who genuinely enjoyed it. I'm much happier with the direction that Frontiers and Shadow Generations have taken overall, but it still hurts me a little to see everyone openly shitting on Forces like it's the new Sonic '06 (which is a whole different can of worms don't get me started--)

Honestly you summarized the things I DO like about Forces' gameplay. I think a vanilla playthrough of just finishing the game is pretty boring and the story's execution sucks, but when i try to break levels with wispons, try to speedrun them, or go for 100%, I actually find myself starting to have fun! I do think the game being a pretty mediocre standard playthrough to be frustrtating and a serious issue. I also always found the avatar creator pretty fun, especially after you unlock a good chunk of the cosmetics. This was a great, really refreshing review that honestly gives me a new perspective on the game, moreso than seeing things like concept arts or finding out about its development history. Also the first video being recommended to me here is "I hate Sonic Forces more than Sonic 06" and I think that's pretty funny. ALSO, welcome back!! I missed your videos, your indepth and sensible critiques, and your soothing voice. Your stuff was alongside Did You Know Gaming and Nitro Rad in my work playlist or just casually playing on my TV while I eat or relax. Even when I didn't agree you always articulated things in such a way where I could totally see where you're coming from.

Well, that was surprising. I actually said "wow" twice when seeing you had uploaded. That said, I'm a little puzzled by this video. To me it seems you combined the five options mentioned in chapter 1, frequently changing between them. I'm not sure what to think of that yet, but I think it's novel at the very least. It may well be the case that Forces is replayable and has more to offer than meets the eye on one playthrough. But for me, the first impression was so bad that I didn't bother. Maybe my frustration tolerance sank compared to when I was a kid. People don't like the controls of Secret Rings and I can see why, but I got used to them back then and even now I can't help but like the game. Sadly, another disadvantage to being adult is not having as much time, so I can't say I'm interested in replaying Forces, even if this video sparked some interest. Oh well, but I'm glad you're back.

Finally someone willing to give Forces the credit it deserves. Not a perfect game by any stretch, but definitely over-hated to a toxic degree.

I agree with everything said in this video. I have a soft spot for this game and I’ve had a lot of fun with it. Planning on replaying it soon and finally going for 100%. My biggest issue with the game that was not mentioned in the video is the length of the levels. I think the game has good level design but some stages are less than a minute long and feel like they end just as they’re really getting good.
