I love it when kids' games aren't afraid to go dark. This game went VERY dark with it's themes. Even as an adult, I was pretty surprised at some of the stuff they were allowed to get away with, especially in this level.
@RatchetandSly3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unlike movies and especially television, video games weren't scrutinized too heavily when it came to content. However, the media started pressing the games industry into lightening things up. They were hammering really hard that violent video games were making kids violent as a consequence of playing. Now, if a game has even remotely any mature themes or violence, it becomes T-rated. Kids games in recent memory are usually devoid of any kind of bite. I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but it is definitely weird looking back on the way things were in the 90's and early 2000's.
@cloudshines8123 жыл бұрын
The swamp was the most scariest and threatening level. Voodoo, giant spiders, giant mosquitos to suck your blood out and much worse. The early 2000s games like Harry Potter, Spider Man and this game really shaped us kids up to having more manly power to progress through these terrifying and dark themes. I still remembered how when I first died to a mosquito, it was like a resident evil game where I didn't replay in weeks because of how horrifying it was to see Sly just die from blood loss.

This game was just awesome; the soundtrack, storyline, humor, gameplay. Nostalgia kicks in so hard.

@FrameRater8 жыл бұрын
It does feel that way doesn't it? There must have been some console wars at the time, though even I don't really remember any. What a great time. PS2, GameCube, Xbox and I guess Dreamcast. I think this is when 3D games really hit the nail on the head all-around. Ratchet and Clank was a marvelous series, Sly Cooper was as well. The Rayman games were still relevant somewhat, and Mario was better than ever. Kingdom Hearts spawned new fandoms and for shooter fans there was Black, Area 51, Halo, Serious Sam, Half-Life 2, Darkwatch, Killzone and who could forget the wonderful TimeSplitters series? 3D Sonic games weren't amazing but they were still pretty fun, and the Harvest Moon series really shined at the time. If anything I guess this was the era where Crash Bandicoot and Spyro kinda toned down. ...I can't think of too many memorable games from the PS3/XB360 generation (or this one for that matter). I guess I liked Viva Pinata, Earth Defense Force games, Left 4 Dead, continuation of Halo titles, Uncharted was a really good series I'll admit. Assassin's Creed II was decent. And uh... replaying old PS2 classics in HD... ..........but hey back on point here at least we got a new Sly Cooper game unlike Jak and Daxter!

This level remains striking. It influenced me deeply, I think - I remember being utterly petrified of this level as an extremely young child, requiring the volume to be turned down on the television. To me, this soundtrack exuded primal evil. Now, it has an almost ritual calmness to it, shadowed by ever-present nostalgia. One of my favourite games ever. I simply adore it - and I have spent who knows how many hours being serenaded by this track in particular. The hours I used to spend exploring or standing around this hub... very precious.

world 3 still remains my favorite in sly cooper, probably of all platformers. of course the dark imagery is very fitting, however i think the soundtrack takes center stage. each of its themes oddly fit together to create this mystical/gloomy atmosphere while also maintaining the muddy sound of the swampland; like the country banjo riffs and low groaning synthesizers. kudos to the composer for this piece! ps i'd love to see sly cooper remake :)

If there’s ever a sly 5 I want mrs ruby to come back, this music is faintly playing in the background as sly feels an eerie force around him. Then the volume on this song goes to 11 and mrs ruby shows herself to sly. A perfect and terrifying scene. I think mrs ruby has the second best soundtrack for her level, (besides dimitri in sly 2 because his music is goat) but mrs ruby is so ominous and I love it, just pure terror. And not to mention her boss battle when it goes from 9.5/10 to 100/10. Overall I think the sly series is the best in all of gaming history. (Possible a hot take but idc) If Sony remakes the series or makes a sly 5, the sales would be off the charts and I would love that for this series. Truly the best thing that kid me had
