I played R&C 1 before I played the second or third games, but I was so young that I didn't really remember it. I have very vivid memories of playing Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal, but I had essentially forgotten everything about the first game. Over a decade later, when I was in community college, I decided to finally reply the original game. Landing on Kerwan, watching that walkup animation, and hearing this theme play with Metropolis in front of me caused such an intense emotional reaction because I suddenly remembered everything.

I feel like the newer games completely miss the style the old games had. The newer games seem to go for a more "futuristic cyberpunk" aesthetic, with a more cinematic approach, while the older games had a more "retro/steampunk, mechanical element" to them, and completely made fun of the corporate world the universe infatuated itself with. It's almost as if the newer games became what the older games made fun of.
@theinimitablejora5223 жыл бұрын
I like to compare Ratchet to Kingdom Hearts. It started with a very certain energy, a specific mojo and theming that quickly changed into what the series's identity would TRULY be. Kingdom Hearts 2 and Tools of Destruction firmly cemented what these franchises truly were, leaving those earlier entries and their unique tones and themes as beautiful anomalies. Seeing as I quite like both Kingdom Hearts and Ratchet for what they've become and are defined as as franchises, I am NOT complaining- rather, I just appreciate KH1's charming Disney magic and RaC 1's cynical steampunk anti-overcapitalist aesthetic for the special unique experiences they breed, keeping these more outdated entries on the same level overall as the games that followed.
@LookingTheBest3 жыл бұрын
Music makes all the difference. The new games would have felt amazing with this music. Such a shame that the new composer doesnt have the skill that Dave had, or Copeland for that matter.

I played the first Ratchet and Clank when I was a little kid and I only remembered a little bit of it, mostly just the Veldin intro level and the Novalis level, and a little bit of Aridia. The first R&C is the best by a longshot. The sequels are fine enough, I've seen worse futures for franchises, but the original had originality, personality and very well tuned progression. You start with a wrench and slowly work your way up. You get the satisfaction of finding loot as if you were playing Diablo or Borderlands, but enjoy platforming the likes of Mario or Crash Bandicoot along the way: only better. In a way it reminds of me Half Life in that regard. Every new item is both fun and a necessary new tool. The completeness of this game is an underappreciated masterpiece.
@asiancooldude2151 Жыл бұрын
I get that but I believe R&C3 was better in terms of progression or at least weapon progression as there were more than one proper ways of grinding bolts that didn’t take too long to get the next big gun (sewer crystals debatable tho) compared to the 1st, especially when you’d also spend quite a lot of bolts just on ammo
