Sly Cooper Theory: Sly's Parents & the Orphanage

Sly's parents have always been a mystery. The father's face was never shown. Although the father was mentioned quite a few times, Sly's mother is even more mysterious.
Sly explained what happened to him and his father as a kid, he explained this in the beginning of every Sly Cooper game.
Sucker Punch, the developer behind Sly 1, Sly 2 and Sly 3, has never revealed the father's identity, nor the mother's.
Sly's father was shown in Sly Cooper 4 Thieves in Time (developed by Sanzaru Games). However, is that what he really looks like?
Sucker Punch created short comic books known as issue 1 and 2. The Adventures of Sly Cooper Issue 1 takes place between the ending of Thievius Raccoonus and the beginning of Sly 2 Band of Thieves. Issue 2 takes place between the ending of Sly 2 and the beginning of Sly 3 Honour among Thieves.

My theory is just the super plain, Sly's father tried to protect his family, everyone died except Sly. All for Sucker Punch to add more mystery behind Sly's background. His mother was probably never a thief and therefore just dismissed by the company. They also probably hid his fathers face so they can do a huge reveal within the last game.

Yeah to this day we have some facts about Mr. Cooper who his first name is Connor Cooper but we have no facts about Mrs. Cooper. In my opinion we don't know how Connor met Mrs. Cooper and to make things less confusing when Sly said "My father fought to protect us" this indicated that only Connor defended his young son and his wife so it turns out that Connor is the only one who was murdered by the Fiendish Five. Sly's mom Mrs. Cooper is nowhere to be seen so we're left with a thought whether she's out of the house for a while. When she arrives back home she was devastated when she discovers that her husband was murdered and the Thievius Racconus is ripped and stolen by the Fiendish Five. To explain the part where Sly ended up in the orphanage I would say that Sly's mom fell into severe depression that she couldn't take care of Sly that she sends him to the orphanage and at that point I believe that was the last time Sly gets to see his mom. So Sly's mom has been a total mystery but I believe in Sly 5 when Sly is reunited with his crew, Bentley and Murray and hopefully Penelope if she truly redeems herself and is exonerated and his girlfriend Carmelita they all get back together and when Bentley tries to locate where Mrs. Cooper is right now Sly can truly reunite with his long-lost mother and at that point Sly and his mom all hug each other as Sly's mom finally recovers from her depression and is glad to see her son all grown up together with his friends. For Carmelita I believe she might reopen the case of the Fiendish Five and there would be a retrial of the Fiendish Five excluding Clockwerk who is dead and the Panda King who is now living with his daughter and is exonerated. The Fiendish Five that would face the retrial are Sir Raleigh, Muggshot and Mz. Ruby and they're all convicted of first-degree murder of Connor Cooper and all their prison sentences would be changed to either Life Imprisonment without the possibility of parole or Capital Punishment. Long answer short Sly's mom has an ambiguous fate either she's dead or still alive.

Before this video I actually thought about Sly meeting his younger self and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a twist like that since the game has already put some twists out there like the Penelope betrayal. What if Sly's mom actually survived the fiendish fives attack and is trying to find Sly? But never got to since he is a thief. Awesome theory by the way! I loved the theory and it is one of the best I've heard. I have to say that it is unlikely that the story would go that way:( It is to risky for the company. The theory seems a little bit to complex for a relatively simple video game. Although the picture and stuff would make sense. I have a theory that sly grew more and more powerful and eventually went back in time and either taught slightenkammon or is slightenkomman. This would make sense how it all started. I have to wonder how the cooper line spread through the world though. I am on the edge of working out a theory that every cooper is just one time tracking individual. Maybe at the end of each coopers life they go back in time and un age themselves into a child for them past selves to raise. And the first cooper was sly from the future. It would travel in a complete circle.

Here's my theory (btw I haven't played sly 4 or 1) My theory is that sly cooper takes place in the future where global warming and solar flares melt the ice caps easing the water levels and plunging the world into chaos. Here's why 1 If this happened the world would turn to violence and chaos and in sly cooper we see people murder slys parents and take of with a prized possession. And what do the police do? NOTHING because after the something as catastrophic as the caps melting the police force would be weak and with few numbers. 2 In sly cooper we that most of the maps are either high above on a mountain, next to water or both. That's because after the water rose people went to higher ground or stayed letting the water engulf those at a lower elevation. 3 In sly every time you enter a level guards shoot at you even before you commit a crime. Also no civilians are seen, the guards on high alert and always shoot to kill. This is because after the chaos erupted people banded together in tight communities killing those outside of there own group. The communities all know each other since there small so when they see an unfamiliar face they immediately attack. 4 You never see any cars or trucks that aren't carrying weapons and the weapons they do carry are laser weapons witch don't exist yet.

I think the point of having Sly's father being hidden (except for the little Sly4 cutscene) is that he is a mystery man. An ambiguous figure that no one knows except him. For the mother, I am not sure. But what if...this may sound farfetched..what if any memory of her is wiped off? Like for some reason it maybe...she must have did something to have some portions of her memory erased or messed with. Maybe to protect herself, her kid, some other agenda? We may never know. I am not sure if I brought this up earlier or not but I do believe that Penelope's inclusion in the Medieval level is a reference to the Black Plague. Not just for her being a mouse in England, but her black themed disguised as a call back to the black plague. Am I the only one who thought of this?

+VtnVivi What if she had no choice but to give him up? Since the Coopers are well known criminals, CPS might played a role in placing Sly in the orphanage. His mother sure is mysterious. Maybe more than his dad. Not to sound like a buzzkill but I've seen some stories where they use the "missing mom" trope. Even if the mother had an equal part as the father, the character will usually be concern more about the dad figure. Not all stories, but some stories. I could be wrong but that's just my thoughts.

also I have a theory and it's about how ratchet and Clank remake. what if ratchet and clank went back in time and went before the series began. I do have proof about it like how Dr. nefarious is not a robot yet. maybe before up your arsenal dr. nefarious was not a robot but a alien or human. instead of quark killing nefarious what if ratchet and clank killed him. this could be one reason why nefarious hates ratchet and clank so much. what I mean is ratchet went back in time when clank was made and nefarious was not a robot. it could be ratchet as the murder and not clank. maybe clank does not know this and it's a secret. I don't really know if it can be true and it's the remake so I guess nefarious is like that but I think you should find more proof and make a video about it so whata you think about that?

Hmm... My theory is Carmelita and Sly raise young Sly when his biological parents aren't around. This means Carm and Sly died by the hands of the fiendish five, they believed they had no choice but to die, you know to make sure this time loop would occur. That would create a time paradox, the Cooper line would not continue on and they would be stuck in an endless loop. If you ask from me, they chose to not reveal Conner's face to create mystery and Sly's mom was killed during it. But she is not mentioned because she is not that important to the story.

I think the nature of time travel in the series makes the web of theories you posited possible at the very least. I'm sure sucker punch planned the story out way beyond sly 3 and instructed Sanzu accordingly. I like the idea that sly's father figure and mother figure are actually an older sly and Carmelita. I don't see any reason to think that isn't possible, and I think the loop could lead to more complex , interesting, and darker stories in the future. I just hope sucker punch goes back to sly. The mechanics in sly 4 aren't nearly as clean as sly 2 or 3.

SMH, I hate it when writers don't know how to use time travel in a good way. Sanzaru games completely ruined Sly Cooper by introducing time travel. They were either oblivious of the outcome of using time travel. Or they didn't think there was anything wrong with messing up Sly's ancestorial history! What makes Sly Coopers family cool is that they had their own adventures just like Sly. They were a mystery and when you go to their time and meet them, well their lives change. Nothing is the same and any little situation can alter everything.(Butterfly effect) Since Sanzaru games made Penelope a potential bad guy. This means she has the capabilities like Bently to time travel. She could meddle in Sly's' past & in Sly's family lineage! This is why they shouldn't have went back in time. It all just becomes confusing. Sorry I went on a long rant, but this is what I do when I'm passionate about something. I grew up playing the first game when I was like six and now that I'm older, to see the series fail spectacularly is so sad. I want Sly to succeed and be enjoyable for both kids & adults. I just wish companies wouldn't look at Sly as a cash grab, but instead as a game series people care about.
