I find that this game is also one of the best! I seriously don't understand those people who absolutely do not like this Sly game as what it is, but I can see the feelings of people like you who do. Also, my only major problem with this game is that the sneak peek in The Sly Collection teased a Sly 4, but this game, despite being the fourth game, never had a 4 in the title on any releases (North American, PAL, and Korean).

The only complaint I really have with Thieves in Time is that you only go through five of your ancestor's worlds whereas in 2 and 3 you went through 7-8 different levels. There could have easily been 1 or 2 more ancestors you visited, but it's still a great game.

With Sly Cooper coming to PS5 via emulator I decided to come back to these videos. As I much as I love them, I still miss one of my favorite videos of all time and my favorite on your channel. Top 10 Sly Cooper Villains. One of my favorite videos of all time and it’s such a shame I’ll never see it again. Even to this day I often quote so many parts of it and I still remember all 10 villains who were on it. Not the exact order but for the most part yeah and especially the top 3. There is one pretty big plot hole that people seem to overlook (Spoilers, duh). Chapter 3. So Le Paradox goes to the ice age to take Bob's cane just like the rest of the Coopers. How did Le Paradox know about Bob? Bob was not recorded in the Thevious Racoonus, Sly didn't even know about him. There is no way Le Paradox would have known about it. Other than that there aren't any plot holes that I could see.

Christian Barragan fans of the original Sly trilogy hate it because the story is poorly written. Most of the main character cast are badly flanderized (Sly, Murray, and Carmelita in particular), Penelope's betrayal of the Cooper gang makes no sense (wiidude still has yet to understand why that plot twist doesn't work; whereas many people who criticized this have easily pointed out the problems with it), Le Paradox is a terrible main villain; and finally we have a depressing cliffhanger ending that completely derails the much happier ending that the characters had earned in Sly 3. What makes it even worse is that Sanzaru has stated that they have no intention of making sequel that can properly resolve the cliffhanger of Sly 4.

Only two problem the Last Chapter being hit or miss and Bentley NEEDS Tech Ammo which will put makers on Enemies so you can Pick Pockets easier as Bentley and the Bomb is the Grapple Cam which was the most fun Upgrade for me

Thank you for this review. I'm glad to know that there are others like me that appreciate this game. I understand some of the criticisms (and agree that at least the motion controlled parts are pretty awful), but I, like you, found many other aspects of the game highly enjoyable and am excited to return to Sly 4 once I finish 3. It was my first Sly game (on Vita), but I got the Trilogy when it came to Vita and though I only played Sly 1 and part of 2 initially, I recently came back to Sly 2, finished it, and have started Sly 3. I've got to say though that Sly 3 is really disappointing me solely because it has no collectibles. I mean, I think it's definitely the best-looking of the Trilogy and I love the environments...but there's no incentive to explore because there aren't any collectibles.

Is anyone EVER going to point out that Bentley's wheelchair doesn't have a motor either? I mean, all that technology and his ONLY source of forward ground momentum is his arms? He even built mechanical ones, why not at least use those? And don't tell me "he needs exercise"...not with that much technology, he doesn't. This was years ago but I think mostly cause sly 1 is the least story focused. The game makes it very obvious who it will be and sly 2, the entire game is getting the clockwerk parts. So no point in really hiding it.

4 is probably my favorite, but I could see myself going back to 1 again as well purely because it was simple and solid, albeit totally different. I played Sly 4 first and have slowly worked through the rest of them. I got through Sly 1 right after the Trilogy came to Vita, started Sly 2 and dropped off. But recently, I came back to 2 and finished it before starting 3. I have a feeling 3 is going to be slower for me, though, since the lack of collectibles really takes the wind out of my sails.

I would also rank Sly 4 at a close 2nd in the series. The best things I thought are pretty much what Wiidude said. But the bad things I thought are a little different. Top 3 being: Final boss was anticlimactic and almost pathetic I thought the plot twist in Medieval England was poorly executed. There was no build up or misdirection and it became very obvious in the beginning of Medieval England (pretty much a give away in the middle). I know this is meant for kids but still. I still enjoyed the twist. Lastly I felt that the Arabia chapter was a bit rushed (maybe even short). One minute I was there planning the heist and the next it's over onto the next chapter. I'm saddened Sanzaru dropped it the only thing I hate worse than a bad ending is an open one. Here's hoping.

My theory is that Sanzaru was running out of budget so had to end the game quickly. This is why the Arabia chapter was short and the final boss was bad. However, they wanted to do more with Sly, so they left the story on a cliffhanger. However, Sly 4 didn't sell well enough for a sequel, so now all the cliffhangers can't be resolved.

+Stranker It is a nice theory. Unless someone picks Sly up soon and has a go with it the story will be at a cliffhanger. It can be possible which is what I'm hoping for. Maybe Sucker Punch will bring it back unless they want to continue the Infamous franchise. If someone else comes across it we can only pray they don't botch it. I think we might find out Sly's fate the year of the movie release.

Alright, y'know, during the wild west stage I kind of gave up on the game for pathetic reasons... One being that since these are so much bigger maps than the original ones, it kinda saddens me that I do not know them inside out. The other one being I surprisingly did terrible in jobs. Quite honestly my favorite game in the series by far. As much I love Band of Thieves, this game really made things a lot more fun and interesting. Though, there are some annoyances here and there and have maybe 1 or 2 disagreements. I don't think this game's OST is the best in the series, since I feel like it doesn't feel as... Thiefy if you know what I'm getting out. Since 2 and 3's music really do a bunch really good, I can't really say the same here. Don't get me wrong, I do like a bunch of songs here (mainly in Chapter 2 with Tennessee Kid Cooper). At least it's nowhere close to Sly 1's soundtrack, which I really don't remember any song from that game. Plus around your negative part, you said something about how far Bentley's mission is in Chapter 5. Well there also one in chapter 7 with the Canadian Games.

O.O Wow... Okay, I agree with you on pretty much every point you made in this review, and as I've stated before, this game easily has the best voice and overall role for Carmelita. Bout time! Also, I loved just about every ancestor in the game, in particular Rioichi, Tennessee Kid and Sir Galeth. Also, Toothpick just cracked me up! I mean, who shoots someone by accident and just says "Oopsie"?! XD Oh, and that plot twist you mentioned early on? Don't worry, I liked it too. :) I honestly don't understand why this game gets some flack from the fanbase, though it may be for the same reason that the Star Trek reboots get so much hate from the Trekkie fanbase: it's different from the original, so it's automatically bad. *sigh* And there's a reason I try to avoid fanbases, there's no reasoning with them -_-; Anyway, as sad as I am to see the Sly marathon over, you did a fantastic job with it and I'm looking forward to your next review! :D

Sly 4 isn't a bad game by itself but most of where it fails is where the trilogy excelled at and that was the dry wit and dry sarcasm as well as the intricate storytelling not to mention the characters were majorly dumbed down from their PS2 counterparts.

Elise Arainai Fans , including me , have a very good reason as to why we strongly beleive that Sly 4 is the worst in the series . And fans won't hate the newest game of a franchise just because it is modern. This happens so frequently because developers give up on their IPs or the writing , the amount of detail and the charm is lost in translation and it feels draged on , forced and just out of passion.

Unfortunately, I don't think Sanzaru was interested in what would be good, or even accurate to the rest of the series. I have a strong suspicion one of the writers just REALLY didn't like Penelope, so they turned the game into their own wish-fulfillment "Ron the Death-Eater" fanfiction. And when you combine that with all the Flanderization of Sly and Murray I mentioned above, turning Carmelita into a Satellite Love Interest, and making all the villains boring and forgettable, the entire plot REEKS of bad fanfiction. I know it's been said many times, but it bears repeating because it's true. And now that I know a lot of the Sanzaru team were fans, it makes a lot of sense. Putting fans of something in charge of the future of that thing rarely ends well, because they either don't understand why they liked it (or liked it for different reasons than most), want to turn it into what THEY wish it was (by either changing/retconing something they didn't like, which I have a feeling is what happened with Penelope, or by adding something that doesn't belong there but THEY wanted it to be there), or fill the thing with self-serving references to that thing's history (which is what Moffat ended up doing to Doctor Who). Even in the few cases where putting fans in charge actually WORKED, they still end up doing what THEY want with it. Take Sonic Mania for example. Good game, but it also reeks of fangame, from the spinning "jumped off of spring" sprite, to the fact that the time limit is still there for some reason, to all the aforementioned self-serving references. Most of the references are unobtrusive, but the Fang, Bean, and Bark cameos aren't. Suddenly a boss turns into them and it's clear you're SUPPOSED to know who they are, and thankfully _I_ did because I have a habit of knowing everything there is to know about something I like, but most people playing the game would no know that. I don't even think most _classic_ Sonic fans know who they are. Same with putting Mighty and Ray in Sonic Mania Plus. Sure, they devs know who they are and I know who they are, but will most people know who they are? If so, it's purely because of memes and not because they actually care. They _could_ have put Amy in instead. She's someone people actually genuinely wanted to see in the game, whereas people only wanted Mighty and Ray because memes. Or, if they REALLY wanted to reach across the isle, they could have put in someone like Shadow, or Blaze, or even Silver. That would have attracted fans of the modern games. But no, Sonic Mania was made by fans of the _classic_ games, so anything after Sonic 3 doesn't exist. I'm getting off track here. The moral of the story is don't put fans of something in charge of that thing, and if you do, supervise them very closely so they don't turn it into their own fanfiction or fangame.

I am a big fan of Sly Cooper series and I want to Sly 5 (I hope it's the same graphics from thieves of time). My opinion is similar to yours with Sly cooper. Sly 2 tie with Sly 4>Sly 1>Sly 3. I wanted for Sly 4 for years and it was worth the wait, as it made things like the graphics, cutscenes, music, clue bottles, safe prizes, and upgrades from the previous games even better. The worst part was the garbage motion controls. Sony better make Sly 5 for the PS5, just imagine the graphics on the game. I wonder if Sly cooper 5 will come out and be the best of the series and when it comes out and when you review I will make a comment comparison on which one like the most.

I mean I didn’t like the plot twist you mentioned an awful lot but I did think the plot twist did have a surprising smart reason. & yes i like this games villains quite a bit, my favourite is the grizz, & my 2nd favourite is toothpick

Wow you're actually the first reviewer I've seen that actually gives good commentary and credits to Sly 4 than anyone else ,everyonekeptI downplaying or shaming sly 4 for not living up to the sly Trilogy all that well; I can see why but I also do see the improvements of everything else! The improved animation to the game play the Overworld and the cutscenes was delightful and the story was pretty interesting as well as its own time travel story was done more subtly, just not as good as Chrono Trigger. I was just smart move that slide to is still the best out of all of them even the new one, & sly 4 it is an improvement on the first and third game!

TIANO C-G I do tend to be a lot more positive to the game than others. Maybe it’s because I played it right after 3 while not enjoying 3 and much so I was maybe seeing a lot more of the improvements 4 did. Or the fact I played all of them back to back or something like that.

Sly 3 is still my fave. The story and bosses felt weak to me in Sly4, and I wasn't crazy about Murray's design. Sly4 is probably my least faveorite in the series; I only put it below Sly 1 just for nostalgia purposes as it was the first game I ever beat.

+KidSnivy69 I made that comment a while ago, and after thinking about it for a bit longer, I'd still put Sly1 over Sly4 just for how epic the final battle in the first game was compared to the "fight" at the end of the latest game. If you ask me, that entire final sequence felt way to rushed.

I really hope the Sly Cooper movie (which we haven't heard anything about since the initial teaser) gives the same love and care to the Raccoon's Legacy, as much as Sanzaru did with Sly 4. I'm also curious about where the series will go if they decide to make sly 5 because (SPOILERS) The game ends on a cliff-hanger, which I won't go into detail about.

I enjoyed Sly 4 fairly well on the Vita. I had, however, Two issues: One, the game's language is, for some goddamn idiotic reason, stuck to French (AKA It CANNOT be changed), and while I do live in France, I prefer the games in english. Plus, French translations have a tendency to suck. And two, Penelope's heel turn (More like taking a level in Dumbass) had NO REASON to happen! If you're okay with it, Patrick, fine, knock yourself out. But honestly, Penelope, who helped us in Sly 3 (The game is good by my book) and had no reason to betray us suddenly becoming one of the bad guys because Bentley prefers to stick with his friends he knew since CHILDHOOD over Selling inventions?! That reason is dumb and nonsensical and you know it.

But its one Thing i am dont understand. Why is Clockwerk in EWRY Level a Robot? I mean in the 3 Level your are more then 10 Thousand years in the past. And he is a Robot. So it makes sence that Clockwerk has a Time Machine too. And im wondering why Clockwer in Sly 2 not was himself wenn he was repaird. He was just a giant Metall Chicken. So i think that the Robot that we know as Clockwerk is just a Giant Robot Suit that are building to kill the Cooper. And what was LeParadox reasons tho doing all this things? Revange and his Giant Hate to the Cooper Familiy. And what was the Ground Clockwer was THAT old? Ravange and Hate. You see what i mean? I think LeParadox and Clockwerk was one and the Same Karakter and i hopf that we can see Clockwerk in the 5 Game as the Andboss again. Oh and another Thing is he loocks a bit the same how the Robo Ouls in Chapter 4...and we al now hows building this Robots. So it is possible that the Black Knight (Im kalling hem the Black Knight for nou Spoilers who he realy is) bulding the Clockwer Body for LeParadox an its Possible too that he and Sly fight again and Sly sanding him in the Past who ewrithing beginning. (sorry for the bad english)

I came sooo close to buying these games because of these reviews. Glad I resisted, if only because I don't have the time and money for more games haha
