Also, just got done watching Sly on David Letterman (1983) where he was interviewed (Sly was charming and intelligent) and sang If You Want Me To Stay, and more. What a talent! God bless Sly Stone.

it is not just drugs (plenty did acid and more for decades and look normal). Plus, nothing destroys you faster than an addiction to alcohol. It looks like he suffered a massive stroke or had some other major illness. It may have even been something genetic. Doesn't dwarf his talent, though, and glad to see he hasn't lost his spirit.

As a youngster from '69-72', I'd hike up from Laguna Beach to the Corner Pocket pool hall on the strip in West Hollywood, and he'd pull up in his purple Bentley to go in the rocord store across the street. He was seeing Terry Melcher's Mom, Doris Day at that time. One night he drove through the plate glass window of the record store, and kept right on driving. What a colorful character, and a stoned musical alchemist. Good days, good music.
